DH- 26/27 and very much ready to get to WDW
Myself- 25 and praying very hard that we will make it
Snowflake- a lovely frog

September 12, 2004- We head south!

We pull out at 7:13 am, almost on schedule. We have found out that the cone is moving even more west and once again, we begin to feel relieved. I begin to worry about my cousins again, who live in Tampa. Looks like Ivan is going to pass over them now. We pass more utility trucks heading north, and a few that are going south with us. The drive has been absolutely gorgeous! That is, until we pass into FL! Ironically, as soon as we pass the FL line, we begin to get a little rain shower. We pull into the visitor center for free OJ, and then head back on the road.
DH and I played our “What to do first game” that we always play the day before we go to a park. Of course we decide on Tomorrowland first, with Buzz leading the way. Then we plan to make our counter-clockwise move around the park.
We arrive at DH’s grandparents around 11 am. DH’s grandfather made steaks on the grill, and here is where I met my first of many animals during the trip. I named him Snowflake. He was a tree frog that took home on their propane tank. He had turned himself white to blend in! I had never seen a white frog before in my life! We head to bed and are happy that it is finally here!

September 13, 2004- Magic Kingdom opens its arms wide for us!

We start out on time at 7 am. We get gas (just in case) because we had seen a few stations that were not open during our drive to Ocala. DH begins his first rendition of “YO HO” and I chime in. The weather is beautiful, and I am just happy that Ivan is not going to be visiting us, nor my cousins.

We are giddy and bouncing in our seats as we pass under the huge sign that welcomes and beckons us to come further into WDW. We park in our AAA diamond lot and head for the ferry. As we pull up, we see the morning “welcome train” finishing up it’s show, and the characters head down to the street.

We stop and have them take our picture and head to Buzz Lightyear. Of course there is no line. In fact, the park looks pretty empty. It is Monday and not an early entry day, but I have never seen the park this empty before. We get on Buzz, and within 5 seconds, I am firing. Remembering all my tactics, I hold down the control to have constant fire. But wait! All of a sudden we stop in front of the big orange robot, and I keep on shooting the back of his hands. Within another 5 seconds, I have reached 999, 999 points!!!! Yay me!!!!! I was so excited. DH claimed I was cheating because the ride had stopped, so my points did not count. I just blew raspberries at him!! But then the ride shut off, and my points disappeared forever into the great unknown. The ride remained stationary, with it’s power coming and going for almost 15 minutes. I did reach 999,999 points again, but once again, it disappeared once the power was cut. Finally the ride started up, and I racked up more points, but not enough to reach the 999,999. I was satisfied though ;)

We then did DH’s fave, Space Mountain. No line once again. We got off and DH begged to ride the Grand Prix cars. I gave him that “I can’t believe you want to drive those stupid cars” look, but gave in…explaining that he owed me big time (this compromise will come in handy later in the trip ;) ).

We made it over to Big Thunder Mountain making sure to do all the rides in between. DH was hungry by this time (almost 11 am) so we waited 5 mins for the Turkey leg stand to open. I ate my Churro while he ate his leg. We sat by the arcade, and watched the egrets walk around. I made friends with one, and gladly shared some of my Churro with him He just took the breading right out of my hand. I am such a Dr. Doolittle!!!

DH keeps asking if I want the Pal Mickey that I had said I wanted before we left home. I brush him off thinking that the $60 would be a waste.

We left around one to check in at POP for one night before we headed to Homewood Suites on Tuesday. It took us almost 40 mins to be taken care of. This was our first time staying onsite, and I hoped that it didn’t always take this long. I was feeling a little antsy about staying here, since I am not a big fan of HUGE icons that surround a hotel area. It really doesn’t appeal to me. Let me tell you, that this feeling quickly left me when we walked into our beautiful room! I loved it!!! All the themeing was awesome and I loved the hidden Mickey that was formed by our table and chairs. Just the right size. Also, we were in the 80s/90s, and I loved the Pac Man themeing outside our room. Room 9420 will always have a place in my heart. I had been apprehensive about our first stay onsite, and wanted it to be “magical”. I am happy to report that POP achieved this for us.
