Brenda, or anyone who has had the foie gras at CG (which is why I didn't PM Brenda) can you please, please give me a very precise description? I (being totally Disney-obsessed) am torn between getting the foie gras and the goat-cheese Ravioli. I have never had foie gras and I am a little scared...I know I will like the Ravioli and the reports are glowing. HELP ME PLEASE!
Also, what, if any, wine did you have with the foie gras and how did it pair?

Well, I haven't had the foie gras at CA Grill but I did have it at V&A twice and it was incredible. Both restaurants sear it and serve it with a fruit accompaniment so you end up with a lovely mix of salt and sweet and tartness. The foie gras itself is smooth and velvety in texture ...

If you're not sure about it, then I can highly recommend the goat cheese ravioli ... we've had that twice at CA Grill and it is fabulous!

The foie gras is such a pricey appetizer that I would hate for you to spend the money on it and then not be happy with it, especially if you're unsure about trying it for the first time.

EDITED FOR WINE: Again, at V&A they paired it with a dessert wine which was very good. I just happen to have a bottle here at the house ... how pathetic is that?

OK ... now you're all going to find out how crazy I am.

I usually hate liver ... never eat it unless it's foie gras, and even then it's not often because it's expensive and not available at just any old place. Because I don't have a frame of reference for comparison I can't tell you how similar it is or isn't to other livers. What I have been told by others is that foie gras is totally different ... it's rich, buttery, and delicate in flavor and like I said earlier the texture is smooth and velvety.

We actually purchased the wine at a wine and cheese store here in Stinktown that we like to visit more than our credit card appreciates. They had it on the shelf one day and we were so surprised to see it that we just went ahead and bought it. It's not sold as a full bottle but more as a half-bottle size (500ml) ... we paid $25 for one of them, just to give you a price point on how much it costs in the real world.

The wine is a beautiful amber color ... the aroma is fruity (apricots according to the hubby) and the flavor is a blend of spice and citrus.

Okay, I am eating at CG for the first time with my sis (we live far, far away from each other so the time together is a treat) and I know she loves goat cheese as she brings me some from the Portland (ME) market from time to time...I have formulated a plan to convince her that she MUST try the goat cheese ravioli (though I have never had it...) so we can share and I can TRY BOTH!!!

So, it's like $30 a glass at WDW is what you're saying... You only live once and you can't take it with you and blah blah blah...this girl will be eating foie gras and drinking that wine with the complicated name on 9/15 at California Grill!!!
