ownership at multiple DVC resorts

I think I have a very good handle on most of the DVC operations, but certainly not all. I am not sure about the advantages of owning small contracts at different resorts. Help please.

The advantage is having the seven month booking window at those resorts. It only applies to the points owned at that resort.

For instance lets say you are an SSR owner with 200 points. You love VWL at Christmas time - and discover that lots of people do and its hard to get the early December VWL vacation. You decide that once every three years you'd like to stay at VWL at Christmas time for a few nights. You do a 50 point add on at VWL. You can bank and borrow those 50 points to get a 150 point vacation every three years at VWL. You may book SSR to round out your week just in case, then try and use your SSR points at the seven month window to avoid moving.

What you can't do is use your SSR points to make the VWL reservation at eleven months, even if you are also a VWL owner.

Some people own VWL for early December, BWV for F&W, BCV to guarentee SAB in Summer, AKL because they suspect those value rooms will go quickly or want the conceirge rooms.

For DVC resorts that you own, you can book your vacation up to 11 months in advance versus 7 months for DVC resorts that you do not own.

Yep. That's the only reason I bought into four resorts, so I could stay at the resorts I wanted to.

OK so if I have 300 points at SSR & 50 points at BCV, Can I book at the 11 month window for BCV?

Only with the 50 BCV points (unless you bank and borrow every three years for 150 points at one time).

Thanks, that is what I thought but I think I saw a different response on another thread.

We bought 80 points (50+30) at BCV and now have enough points to do a studio at spring break and a F&W weekend every other year.

Our next small add-on of 60 pts. (give or take) at an additional resort will be at VWL for the holiday season.

The bottom line. . .it may be a little more complicated to manage points, but the 11 month booking gives us peace of mind and that is worth it!

This is the way I feel about getting a 2 bedroom dedicated for our DGC's family and so, we are also in the process of getting at least 100 points at the resorts we want to share with family. I am willing to risk the 7 month window for any other room we may need.

Do you pay closing costs for an add on at another resort....

Is it cheaper when you do an add-on at your home resort
with same use year:confused3

You do not pay closing costs through Disney when you add on.

Depending on the price of your home resort, it could be cheaper since some resorts are cheaper in price to begin with, but not just because it is your home resort. When you do an add-on through Disney it will be for your same use year no matter what the resort unless you choose a new master contract. And that begins with a 160 pt purchase again.

We purchased a small (25 pt) add on at AKV as soon as we learned of it (less than a month after we bought our primary contract at SSR). This allows us to stay two weekday nights in a savannah view studio every year during the Adventure or Choice seasons (when we always visit). Or, we could bank one year and stay more nights, on a weekend, or during the next most "expensive" season the following year. We plan to do the same thing with a Wilderness Lodge add on when we can. While I think when the new Kidani Village opens fully it will not be hard to get reservations at AKV, I think there will always be a challenge to get VWL studios during holiday decoration times if you don't have the 11 month advantage. Even small add ons like ours are good for a sneakaway trip, or, if you don't mind moving resorts mid vacation (and we don't), to be a piece of a longer trip.
