I think my contacts gave me multiple corneal abrasions in my left eye.

My eye felt fine until I took the contact out last night. It seems to be getting worse. My eye is red, swollen, watery, burning, etc. I put in Visine drops and it hurts so bad. I don't think I can wear the 30 day/night contacts for more than two weeks at a time. (Yes, this has happened before. You'd think I would have learned my lesson then. )

Tylenol isn't helping either. I need something!!!!!!!!!!! I don't think there is any pain worse than eye pain.

Thank you for listening.

Ouch, that sounds very painful. My eye doctors both won't recommend those 30 day contacts for similar reasons (I guess both had run into too much eye trouble from those who had them). Anyway, I am sorry your eye is in such bad shape. I hope it feels better soon!

Go to your Dr tomorrow. Do not pass go and do not collect 200.00 dollars. This happened to me and I got some ointment that made it fell better and did a check to make sure all was A-okay. I feel for you.

Jules,

Our doctors recommend going to ED right away. Corneal abrasions can scar and cause permanent vision changes. Maybe you should call your primary care doctor now or go to urgent care. Okay? Don't wait.

bets and rnmom, I'm health insurance-less right now. I'm tring to save my trips to the Dr. and ER for life-threatening emergencies. Since I've been through this before, I'm going to wait it out. It will be gone tomorrow. The worst is over. :) *crossing fingers*

I would go to the eye doctor, eye problems seem like an emergency to me. For now I would stick to glasses.

I feel your pain...literally!

Does the light intensly increase your pain too? Stop the visine my eye doctor told me that.

I wear the 30 days too...but I have to take them out one night a week. I wear them for two when I travel and boy do I pay the price...

I'm Sorry your eye hurts :(

I sure hope you start feeling better very soon! Let us know tomorrow how you are :)

I hope everything is okay tomorrow like you said. RNMOM's post scared me..... I know when DH has eye surgery and such he is told not to use Visine, but use a plain saline eye drop that is NOTmlabeled "to get the red out". The Visine might just be irritating it more.

Okay, guess I'll stop the visine. LOL

Yes, the light is awful. I couldn't go outside at all today and when the sun came in , I covered my eye.

It seems to be getting better. If feels "grainy", but I try to avoid rubbing it.

I hate the runny nose that accompanies watery eyes. *sniffle* *sniffle*

Ouch! I had two corneal abrasions when I wore hard lenses. Back then, they told me there was nothing that could be done for the pain. Longest nights of my life. Hope your eye heals fast!

Go to your local pharmacy and speak to the pharmacist. He might be able to recommend an over the counter ointment.

How is your eye today? I really hope it is better. If not please go see you opto.......it might really be worth the money out of pocket to have it checked....OK?

bets, it is still red and sore this morning but not as as bad as yesterday. I have to go buy dd's birthday present this morning and its really bright outside. It's going to kill me!!! I think I might put the right contact in so I can wear my sunglasses.

Jules, Please Go to DRs. as soon as possible.
It may not be life-threatening, but definitely Sight - Threatening!
I have had much experience with Corneal Ulcers ,tho mine were caused by Herpetic Keratitus which is the same virus that causes cold sores.
I was sent to The Cornea Institute at Colombia Presbyterian in NY.

I was repeatedly told that I could go blind if the ulcerations perforated thru the cornea.
Stress and fatique were to be avoided.
it finally healed after a few months.
ten yrs. later while going thru Chemo it came back.
Antibiotic drops helped but because of my low immune system,it took months to heal.
Any light was excruciating,I wore a black eyepatch under sunglasses
The watery eyes, running nose, and the sharp pains sound like yours are more than minor abrasions

Three days before Xmas this Year, my son Jeff, was complaining of his eye hurting.
He told me his contacts probably needed to be replaced and he kept them in all the time, because he was afraid they would fall apart if he took them out.
He's away at Graduate school and he said he didn't have the money to get new ones.
Duh! like he couldn't ask mom & dad for something important like that,(My kids have no problem asking for money for other things!)

Anyway , I immediately called and managed to get an eye Dr. to see him .
He was told it was serious,He needed antibiotic eye drops,
we had to buy him glasses, He would not be able to wear contacts for possibly up to a year or maybe never again. ( I can't)
It took about ten days to heal, but
He is still wearing his glasses to this day..

So, as a MOM, I am yelling at you, NEVER mess around with your eyesight.
In the meantime ,keep it covered, and warm ,moist compresses help ease the pain a bit and rest.

Hugs, Marilyn
