Overnight Puppy Boarding.

Hoping someone can help me in this department. We just got a Westie and we have a DL trip planned in Dec. Dec 19-24 specifically. We are coming from MN then we are going to head to Tucson to spend Xmas with my grandma. We need to bring the puppy with, due to the length of time we'll be gone. So I'm looking for a kennel a highly recommended one, to keep our Pup overnight. We will have a car and are staying at the Grand Californian. anyone have any recommendations? Thanx!

Im sorry I don't have any suggestions for boarding. You could call the Grand and see who they recommend in the area. Or perhaps check out Yelp reviews. Maybe even ask your vet if they have a referral network and a list of names out of state? Good luck in your search!

Disneyland has a kennel and they do require shot records and other documention to be able to board a dog. Good luck.

Disney's Kennel doesn't do overnight stays, only half an hour before until half an hour after park hours. It is reasonably priced though, only $20 a day.

Have you heard of Dogvacay? They are an online place that has listings of people who pet sit in their homes. They have information about themselves, and reviews of people who have left dogs with them. I haven't used it yet, but I have friends that do. It might be worth looking into. Hope you find the perfect spot for your pup!

Some of the chain hotels allow dogs, then you could board them at the DLR kennel in the day time.
We stayed at the Sheraton ( old one, Castle ) and used the DLR kennel for our Sheltie. They have a special section for the pet owners, rooms are large, they provided a bed, bowls and treats. Very nice.
Another is the Hilton and Towers, or the Marriott Residence Inn, the one on Clementine.

I've had great experience with everything from Crossroads Pet Resort, from grooming to classes to daytime boarding/training. I have not used them for overnight boarding, but they have mostly positive reviews on yelp.

I will second dogvacay.com which is all home based independent pet sitters. I found my local pet sitter through them and they are great. They have a good user review rating system. Much better than a random sitter or even a kennel where they are caged all day.

If you can find a local sitter through them with a lot of good reviews, you will be in good hands....and I am picky who I leave my puppy with!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I've never owned a dog before and its been almost 20 years for my husband. So we're pretty new at this. I'll look into these!

The sheraton Anaheim, Hotel Indigo, Red Lion and a few others accept pets your size. None of the DLR hotels accept pets of any size as far as I know. The DL kennel does not do overnight stays but of for the day it is great. You are required to return at least every 4 hours to walk your dog. You must have all its shots and records with you for virtually any kennel in California. If its less than 3 months old, some places will not allow it.

See if you can find a kennel/friends/family at home. While it is fun to have the puppy with you during the trip, you will find that it is the wrong atmosphere for the dog. Days at DL are long and your attention will be on the park and not them. They will be confused over the noise and excitement of the family. Leaving them in the hotel or a day kennel is not fair to them.

I'm pretty sure that's why the OP isn't asking about day kennals, but overnight kennals.

I urge you strongly to not take your dog with you. He will do much better if you leave him with someone you trust while you are away, preferably someone who can stay in your home.

I never board my dogs because every time I did it in the past, they got sick while they were there.

If you do decide to take him, I would contact local veterinarians in the Anaheim area and see if you can find one who also has a kennel. Vets are more likely to run a clean kennel. Your dog will have to have a Boardatella vaccination.
I live in Tucson and I warn you that parvo is rampant here and can kill a dog in 24 hours, so make sure he is vaccinated prior to leaving your home.

Another option is to board him in your home town.

I assume you are flying and your dog will be with you in the cabin.

Leaving him home is not an option as we'll be gone for 12+ days. He will only be boarded while we are at DL. When we travel to Tucson he will be staying with us at Grandmas. Yes he will be in the cabin with us. We will have all his shots and the vet knows we are traveling and is planning on going over important stuff closer to the date. I'm looking for highly recommended kennels, if they happen to be vet offices that's fine with me.

Perhaps you could call some of the vets in Anaheim and ask for suggestions for boarding.

So glad I stumbled upon this thread! I have some doxies that I really didn't want to kennel board while we're gone...
