Overnight hotels on I95

We (2 adults) will be driving to Orlando in Dec., from NY. We'll probably want to stop for the night in the area of southern NC or Northern SC. The last time we stayed in a lovely Hampton Inn (not sure which town) but it was $89.+tax for the night. We paid it because after getting stung with a budget place years ago, we are always hesitant to try them. I would love to find someplace a little less. Am I asking for too much? I'm wondering if anyone has experiences with hotels along I95. It doesn't have to be fancy, but a clean nonsmoking room is a must! I just read Trip advisor on the Motel 6 in Lumberton and the $89. didn't sound so bad after that! .
Any suggestions/experiences will be appreciated!

By a book called I drive95 (you can get it on line and they give you a website too)It has every exit from Maine to Fl.Every hotel,food and any historic or site to see.It even tells you what radio stations there .

also got to www.RoomSaver.com you can get an idoe of what rooms are available on our route and you can sometimes get a good deal a a decent hotel using one of their coupons.

We drove in Feb. from CT. We stopped the first night in Florence S.C. We stayed in a Holiday Inn Express. It was $93 for the night. This was a pre-book price. Very clean, great breakfast in the A.M. We are driving back down again in June and we will be staying here again. There are several in the area. This is the one located at I-95 and I-20 near the civic center. Plenty of restaurant choices around the hotel too.

We just bit the bullet and stayed at Hampton. We choose Savanna SC but that might be too far down for you. Hamptons are clean, comfortable beds, nice breakfast. We booked one and decided to go a little farther and the hotel just transfered our reservation to another hampton a little farther south.

I stay in hotels (travel for work) almost weekly. I use the Hilton chains with Hampton suites being one of the ones... not preferred, but ok.

Anyway, we recently traveled to Virginia (not work related) and stayed in an Holiday Inn Express.

I was really impressed with how nice a place it was (for an overnight mind, not an extended stay). It was clean, comfortable and safe. :yes:

So, all that to say, check out any available Holiday Inn Express and see what you think!

We stopped at the Fairfield in Florence northern SC. by Merriot, $69 a night. I found the internet price, called to see if the had availbility and said they would honor the Internt special on Orbitz.

It is not far south from South of the Border, NC.
Great breakfast in the morning and a slection to take to go if you want to hit the road. Clean, good beds, and pool, not that there is time to use it. Easy access of the interstate, AND Sonic a block away!

Thanks everyone, I guess we'll bite the bullet and stick with something we can trust. I have the website"drive I 95, it's great. I'm thinking the Fairfield in Florance might be a good option for us too. Thanks again. I'm always open to suggestions and wanted personal experiences.

We just made two reservations last night-one for Hampton Inn in SC and one in the Kissimmee area before our check-in at BWV on Easter. I've learned my lesson from past experiences when trying to save a couple dollars. I'm sticking with what I know, and the breakfast they provide is pretty good. It's what we use for all business travel and now family travel as well.

I have had good luck with the Red Roof Inn for a no-frills room.

We drive from NJ to WDW every year down 95. We never reserve anything in advance because we never know where we will be when we are ready to stop. What you do is stop at the Welcome center as you enter the state in which you will stop. Get the Room Saver guides. Use those to figure out where you will end up and call ahead at that point to book a room. If you are only an hour or two away, don't be surprised if they won't make an actual reservation and tell you to just come on in.

We usually choose either a Fairfield Inn because we are Marriott Rewards members or a Holiday Inn Express because we are also Priority Club Rewards members.
