Overheard some resort employees talking about the Pirates Resort?

AHHHH AHHH AHHHH!!!!

Do we need another evolution of the resorts thread to explain the history and pricing History?

Anyone that thinks that the Value resorts are somehow significantly more affordable then the other resorts USED to be is just buying into the Disney lie. The Deluxe and Mod resorts RAISED their prices when the cheaper resorts were built.

Also, Contemporary is an architectural style, not a word meaning of the present.

It's of the the contemporary school of Design. Does it need to be updated? Yes, but the fundimental design is still very much contemporary.

That is really interesting info! I never knew that there were supposed to be themed "world" hotels. Where do you find this kind of info. Is there a book?

there are many books that Discuss it. I know that "Since the World Began" talks about it. It's a coffee table book, not in depth.

Thanks, I will look for that one!

I have priced Dsieny in the past before Allstars and I could never afford the others at all. But of course that was over 10 years ago. And I didn't have alot of money to begin with. So maybe they just seemed like alot at the time.

I'm going to Quote the great DVC-Landbaron.

Disney was never cheap, but it used to be an incredible value

Back in the late 70s when the Poly was $75 a night which was pretty expensive, though not as bad as today. About the price of a moderate in 2007 dollars. But think about what you got for that.

From my perspective, Poly is what Walt wanted and everything else is just taking bits and pieces out of the Disney experience.

I patiently await All Aboard, but he knows I'll call him a frickin hypocrite, so maybe he won't stop by.

Very true. When my mother got a Florida Residents discount rate of $99 at the Polynesian in 1986 we felt as if we'd just been told we'd won a trip to Europe. $99 was not a terrible amount of money then, and we were solid middle-class.

I'm not sure what you mean by existing models.

For example, You'd be hard pressed to find anything in Africa that remotely resembled AKL.

They have actually built some high end resorts near savannahs as big money tourists (particularly from Europe and Asia) have begun looking for resorts

A few years back we were traveling from Old Key West to somewhere and I spotted an area that was a cluster of thatched hut type of accomodations...they were up on posts and were very rustic. I asked the driver ( I can't remember if we were in a boat or what) what they were and he said that they used to be available to stay in years back but were now closed and he didn't know of any plans to use them. Any one heard or know anything about this?? I only remember that they were located somewhere near OKW. I remember seeing pictures of them online once as well. Any one else heard or seen these???

I think you mean the old treehouse villas? Google them and you can probably find pictures to see if that's what you saw.

Sounds like the treehouses. They do let workers stay in them, but to make them up to code for public would be to expensive. Teh yare in a wetland that is protected now too. So if the ytear them down they can't rebuild in it's place. So basically they are letting them sit.

Yes that is what I saw! What a shame they can't still be put to use somehow! Thanks for clearing that up!

There is a rumor too that gators were getting in on the first floor. But I don't really beleive that one, as long term cast members are lving in some now.
