I am one of those people that always watches their weight. It drives my husband crazy. He is insisting that I toss it all to the wind and have a fat-free/calorie free vacation. Because of this, I have been trying to lose a little before our trip, but not having much luck.

We're on the dining plan so I know we are going to have all kinds of food...not to mention that I do have a sweet tooth and I have made a list of some of the favorite/must-have food items that were on another thread.

What makes it even worse is that when we get home, we'll be coming back to our families HUGE Thanksgiving celebration!

In general, do you gain weight on vacation? If so, how much? DH is telling me that we'll "walk it off" in the parks.
I keep saying we'll NEVER do THAT much walking.

I eat like a pig in WDW, but with all of the walking we do, I always seem to come home at least 5 lbs lighter.

I eat 3 meals a day, every day down there :goodvibes

My pants feel a little tight at the end of the trip, but its always gone within a week or two!

Throw caution to the wind, this is some of the best food you may ever have!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah you might gain some weight but you make up for it in all the walking that you do. Its really hard for me to say how much I gain beacuse i don't weigh myself at disney. But If you eat in moderation you should be fine.
Don't be afraid to walk away with food on your plate, thats a problem with me.

I can't even believe I am reading this! Of course you must eat whatever you want when you are on vacation. It's called that for a reason and that includes a vacation from watching carbs, calories, etc. I think alot of people gain weight on vacation, it might even be required. :goodvibes But we are not talking 50 lbs. If you come back with a extra Disney pound or two I think you'll be much happier than if you came back wishing you'd gone ahead and had that yummy dessert or delicious meal. ;)

I am careful about my diet all year, but when I'm on vacation, I'm on vacation from everything, including yogurt, salad, etc. I eat whatever I want when I'm on vacaction. I agree with previous posts though. You can walk up to 10 miles a day while your there. I never noticed a real gain when we got home, even though I ate everything that I normally avoid.

I too, like to eat what I like on vacation and even with the walking my clothes are tight at the end of the trip!

Im one of those people who watches my weight at home. I watch what I eat(most days), jog daily, walk 5 days a week and ab crunch 6 days.

So, when I go on vacation thats what I'm going on vacation from. I eat and drink anything (and everything) I want and I dont exercise. Strolling around the parks doesnt do it for me.

On average I gain about 1 lb per day. Usually I am able to lose it pretty quick, however the longer the trip (like my 12 day trip to DL & DCL in August), the longer it takes to come off.

Gained 2 pounds last Orlando vacation.
Guess we didn't walk enough in the heat.
I would say relax a little but not a lot.

Its part of the fun on vacation to say yes :sunny: , when you have yourself programmed 85% of the year to say no :guilty: On special occaisions, its important to enjoy! Ofcourse, I am no where near a *healthy weight* so I may well be wrong. If the weight issue is not just with you, but other family members as well, maybe you could help each other limit yourselves somewhat. By choosing slalds (no fried chicken) for lunch, and fruit for breakfast. It also helps cut the *damage* if you share those delectable no-no's. Also, as for big family gatherings, how about loading up on sensible items like steamed veggies, skinless meat (turkey) and salad, then a few bites of all of those yummy rich foods that could ruin your progress. (dont forget to drink tons of water, as this may help you feel fuller)

We just got back last week or so and I had been doing weight watchers for a month before going and hated to blow all my hard work. I ate pretty much whatever I wanted, even desserts. We were also on the dining plan. I gained 1 1/2 pounds the week were gone and lost 2 1/2 pounds the next week. So go, have a great time and forget about the dieting till you get home........jan :flower:

The amount of walking you do is really amazing, and you don't realize it. If I gain anything it's only a couple pounds. Many times I stay the same and a couple times I've even lost!!! One time I went and didn't have my "goodies" cuz I wanted to "watch what I was eating". NEVER AGAIN!!! I felt so deprived when I got home, there's just too many fun and different things to enjoy. You have days and days of eating the same ole, same ole at home, and only a few vacations and holidays to enjoy special foods. Just do it and have a wonderful time.

Sounds like you'll be there when we will....the week before Thanksgiving
Week. I agree, double whammy, but I've lost 70# and I'm going to enjoy my favorites at Disney World and my family favorites for Thanksgiving too. I figure that if I "maintain" from Disney through the Christmas holidays I'll be doing good and then will start back down in January. I'm happy with the 70# for now.
