Has anyone ever had to change hotels due to overbooking? If so, are you always placed in the same category (moderate to moderate)?

It depends on the situation, and where available rooms are. Most often, it will be an equal move, but sometimes there might be an upgrade. It's all a matter of the manager on duty, and where the available rooms are located.

Change hotels?!! Are you kidding? I think my family would be furious since we carefully select where we want to stay and plan well in advance. Has this happened to anyone and if so, how far in advance did you book?

It doesn't matter when you booked. If they had a large group make reservations you could be "walked" to accomodate them. It does happen in the hotel industry and also at Disney.

That's exactly what happened to us. Last year, we were booked at the Dolphin and moved to the Swan. It worked out fine and we completely understood because evidently there was a huge convention at the Dolphin. We just missed being close to food and laundry, but it really wasn't a big deal.

Happened to us 2 summers ago too. Had a ressie at Movies and when we checked in they told us that they did not have a room for us and THEY decided to move us to the SPORTS. I was not happy, since our grandson was looking forward to staying at Movies. All of the complaining in the world did not change this decision, though the CMs at the front desk felt bad for us. I wrote and complained, but when the CM called me, she said, since you had a discounted room, you get what you pay for (not her exact words, but that was the meaning of the conversation).

This happened to my sister at Wilderness Lodge. They were out of regular rooms and she got one of the suite rooms instead. She didn't have to change hotels, though.

This happened to us two years ago, we were booked at CB pirate:~arrived early and had to call later for our room numbers. When we got the the rooms (we had two rooms), the first was fine... we opened the door to the second and there were people in it!! Well to make a long story short, there were no more rooms so we got upgraded to Poly! The kids were dissapointed
CB is their favorite. We are going to CB in June so better luck this time!

This happened to me years ago. We booked our honeymoon trip to the Grand Floridian. We got a call about two weeks before stating that they overbooked, and would we mind moving to the Old Key West Resort? This would be our first trip to WDW, and we didn't know the difference. Because they made a mistake, and it was our honeymoon, they refunded ALL of our money. We ended up paying for nothing! We faxed our bill to them, which included airfare, food (at the time, they had the food and fun plan), tickets, and accommodations. They refunded the entire bill! So, I had a free honeymoon!!! I was obviously thrilled. I loved the Key West Resorts, but would have stayed anywhere since I didn't pay!

Wow! I wish somebody 'ruined' my honeymoon for me like that. I mean, I know OKW isn't exactly the GF and eveybody wants their honeymoon to be perfect, but when you're talking free - that sounds like a very acceptable deal. So what did you do with the money?

We came in at midnight three years ago, booked into Sports, and they didn't have a room for us. I sat in the car wondering what was going on, and DH comes out and tells me that we're headed to the AKL. We got pool view standard for two nights at $49 night, FL resident rate. Can't beat that.

Please, please let this happen to me in June

One of my co-workers tried to book CSR the same week we will be there and she was told it was over booked. So now I am in a panic because we won't be getting in until about 8pm to check in and I am worried we may get bumped.

Would it help if I called the hotel before we leave to the airport? We really want to stay at CSR.

Typically, you won't get walked that early. There are still a lot of folks who check in after 8pm.

Now that's my kind of "room bump" :)

Of course, we go when it's not crowded, so we'll never get that lucky.
Or with my luck, they'll probably be totally full at the WL only, and will move us to the GF (sorry, just not my style) or Sports during a cheerleading convention (aka "bring in da noisenoisenoise").

Haven't ever been "bumped" in any hotel at WDW (or anywhere for that matter), but if it happens it happens, c'est la vie... as long as there's a WDW room somewhere-- wouldn't want to be bumped offsite, of course.

That happened to us at the Hard Rock Hotel. We booked a pool view room and when we arrived they said there were none left and asked if it was o.k. to be moved to the club level. At first I didn't know what she meant, but as soon as she told us we'd have to use our key card on the elevator to get to the club level- then I knew she meant concierge! The room was very nice :)

I don't supposed I would mind being bumped as we're staying at Pop and while All-Stars are more or less a lateral move, anything beyond that would be a treat! I Love the free Honeymoon story!

We went last year during Super Soap weekend/last weekend Food and Wine Festival and I had heard that the resorts were all booked or nearly so. We didn't check in until 10:30 pm. We had booked AKL standard savannah and upon check-in they gave us a deluxe savannah view. We were thrilled!

Bumped from Riverside to the Polynesian due to bedding issues-booked a king and none were available.

We are booked at AKL savannah in AUG now if I got bumped to AKL concierge, POLY or GF I would be estatic..anywhere else and I would be furious
