Overalls With No Shirt Under Them?

I am taking my two year old daugther to Disney in September. I have a cute pair of overalls that I want her to wear (similar to those on the Custom thread), and I am considering not putting a shirt underneath them because it is so dang hot. If she leaned right, I'm sure it's possible you could see her nonexistant you know whats, but mostly they would stay covered. Is that appropriate? I know I wouldn't be offended by it........but you never know so I wanted opinions from the Dis.

She is only 2, there is nothing inappropiate about her wearing just overalls. My DS who was 2 last trip would not wear them without at least a white Tshirt. I guess maybe they might be more comfortable like that , he is picky though so who knows. Anyway if you see some of the custom overalls on Ebay they show them on girls with no shirt under them and they look fine.

Another idea is to have her wear a tank top underneath for a cute look and to cover up, if you wanted. Either way, I think you'll be fine.

How about letting her wear a bikini underneath? It wouldn't make her too warm and then she could also splash around in Ariel's Grotto and Donald's boat, too.

At that age I think it's just fine.
I like the idea of wearing a swimsuit under if you plan on letting her use the water play areas.

I see nothing wrong with. But I agree with wearing a bathing suit under it. Lots more fun. Oh, just double check the straps do not rub her shoulders raw. Other than that, let her have fun.

She's 2. I really don't see anything wrong. I know as a society, we're much more uptight these days (TOO uptight!) but I just think about all the times as kids, everyone in the neighborhood running thru sprinklers w/ just shorts or diapers or whatever on... girls and boys... and it just wasn't a problem.

However, be careful of sun and discomfort. Her little top half probably doesn't get a lot of sun, so leaving it exposed could leave her open for a nasty sunburn... even light cotton helps protect. Also, my son sometimes complains about chafing from straps is he's not wearing a shirt. All day outside and being wet or sweaty could make it worse. You might try try to find a little tank top of something just to help pad... at least to take with you.

I don't think that there is anything wrong with it, but even with my DD1 I always put something underneath I just think it looks less "hillbilly...ish" I like the other posters ideas about the tank top and the swimsuit.

I'd put a little tank under the overalls. I would think she will be more comfortable...no thick, scratchy seams. And I think I am overly protective about this stuff, but in a public place, I would be more comfortable with my dd covered with more than the overalls on top.

I think the world is more uptight, but it is in response to all the scary things that go on nowadays (sad to say).

I have looked a few auctions of custom overall's and on some of them it looks like they are wearing a skin colored tank. Not all, but some.

I would not go with overalls on a hot day. The weight of the garment hanging from the straps makes the straps feel hot and uncomfortable on the shoulders.

In addition I would not consider overalls suitable for splashing around in fountains.

I seem to see more children wearing too much in summer as opposed to wearing too little in winter.

I think it's a cute look (girl or boy), BUT on a hot day, wearing a nice white shirt can be cooler than being bare skinned. Just like most of my male friends and boyfriends and my husband report that when they are really honest with themselves, wearing an undershirt is nicer than not, b/c you don't sweat through your outershirt, and you just generally feel cooler.

And there's the sun issue as well.

I know that I would have made sure DS wore a shirt under overalls, if I wanted him to wear overalls. But I wouldn't b/c at 2 I was still changing dipes, and that's a pain with overalls. No matter where you start from, you've got snaps or buttons to undo and do back up.

Yes, I know people are uptight about this sort of thing, but it is not without cause. In your own backyard, go for it, but in a public place worry about safety over fashion. It freaks me out how many creeps there really are out there!

Well said, I agree. Rule of thumb for dressing even oneself, if you question it...don't go with it.

Nothing wrong with a 2 year old girl wearing only overall. My only concern would be comfort. Would the feel of the straps on her skin bother her?

First, this is a 2 year old girl, so nothing should be "hanging" .....yet.

Overalls are going to be WAY too uncomfortable to wear here in September. I don't even buy my kids jeans as they wear shorts or other lightweight fabrics year round. Even for the 2 or 3 chilly days we get a year here, they are still insisting on wearing shorts.

Put a cute little pair of shorts and a light top on her so she will be comfortable the whole day. Lightweight fabrics will even dry quickly, should she want to play in the water.

I wouldn't personally want to have my kids wear overalls without a shirt in the heat *because they'd whine incessantly about being uncomfortable* but I don't see anything "wrong" with it other than her possible discomfort.
