I know this has been posted before, but I can't find anything when I search. What do you use the shoe holders for?? We leave on the 9th and sail on the 14th and my DW does not want to buy/bring thme as we don't know why they are useful.

We hung it on the bathroom door(the one with the shower) to hold all the misc items that would normally clutter up the bathroom counter. Three of us in our family wear contact lenses, so we put contact solution, glasses cases, deod, makeup items, lotion, hairbrushes, curling iron, etc. It kept everything convenient to use, but not spread all over the counters. The first time we cruised, we didn't bring one, but last we did and were very glad. There is not a lot of counter space in the bathrooms, and with 4 people in a cabin it was just a handy way to contain the clutter.

We used one for our cruise two years ago. I put our toiletry items in it and hung it on the bathroom door. Stuff like medicine, sunscreen, shampoo and conditioner, lotion, hair brush, tooth brushes, etc., etc. It makes it very convenient to get ready and it doesn't waste any space.

Believe me, this is one greatest idea to keep things orderly! :goodvibes
The clear pockets are the best and they can be found at the $ store!!

Yes yes yes. It takes up little room in your luggage and if you get a cheap one, you can just leave it there when you're done.

I really liked it for bathroom items, but also for items we needed when we left the cabin - sunscreen, our KTTW Cards, extra film (and used film), the kids' nametags for the Club, $ for room service, etc.

It just kept everything where I could find it all the time.

I haven't cruised yet, so can't testify. I did want to share, however, that I found a 8 pocket one for $2 at the Dollar Store (I have to admit, I've always loathed those stores, but it certainly has helped me out for cruise "use it and leave it" material :) ). However, this is actually MEANT for showers, not shoes. The pockets are about the same size as the shoe holder, but it's made of mesh (easier to clean). Less pockets then the shoe holder, but I don't think I'd need that many pockets for my toiletries.

We used our over-the-door-shoe holder all the time. We put our sunglasses, kttw cards, cameras, film, toiletrees, sunscreen, our car keys, (since we didn't need them), It was a great place to put all misc. items. Whenever anyone asked where something was, it was in the shoeholder. We even take one with us on any of our vacations now.

Each time I have cruised, there are at least 3 sometimes 4 people in one room, so it keeps things neat and you know where to find things. We found it to be extremely helpful and its easy to pack.

We used it for any of the little things we didn't want to stash in a drawer -- hair spray and mousse, brushes and barettes, sun screen, batteries, pens, sunglasses, you name it. Because it was on the outside of the bathroom door, everyone had easy access to it, even if someone was using the bathroom. Ours had 24 clear pockets and I got it at Target. I also got a hanging shoe organizer for the closet. We used that for hats, socks, underwear, kids t'shirts etc. It helped ease the congestion in the drawers. With four of us on a 7-day cruise, drawer space was at a premium.

We actually used ours for shoes! We did throw the camera and other small items in a couple of spots. It was great not tripping over shoes all of the time.

I got mine at the "Everything's a dollar" store...and got 2 of them. If you have 2 bathrooms, you might want 2. We used them for everything--toiletries, camera, sunscreen, KTTW cards, etc. Think about labelling pockets with an item or with people's names if you have lots of kids--even little ones can recognize their name and know that's where they put whatever they can't wait to show Mom or Dad...or that's where their KTTW and name tag go, etc. Saves a ton of clutter on the desk and in the bathroom. In the package folded up, these take essentially no room in the suitcase and add next to no weight. At $1 each, you can toss them at the end of the cruise if you don't want to drag it home for the next time.

We agree with all the above posts. After hearing about it on the DISboards, we take it on all our trips, since hotel rooms have limited counterspace as well. Wouldn't travel without it!

This is a MUST HAVE item for us.. The bathrooms are really small & not much space to store stuff.

We loved our over-the-door-shoe-holders as well. At the end of the cruise, we offered them to CMs in Flounder's and they were so happy to get them. So if you decide not to bring them home, ask a favorite CM if they'd like to have them - it might be really useful to them!

I was wondering why I took a picture of our over-the-door shoe hanger on our cruise, frankly so was hubby.

Taa Daa....

We used ours for toiletries mostly, the ocassional crayons (keep out of reach of DS) and DS bath toys.
Wow! I am happen to have a reason for this picture :)

Where can I order one of these from online? I never see any around here... Well, I do but they cost $45

I had to laugh my head off......I have always been intruigued with the "over the door shoe holder" uses and what the variations may be! :rotfl2:

We definitely will be bringing one (yes, the "clear" kind) on our next cruise and I envision it being filled with ....let's not fail to include the following..... :rotfl:

*extra Sponge Bob sippy cups just waiting to be filled with whatever drink our DS may enjoy on the next "outing"

*Ziplock baggies, whether full or empty, with leftover snacks from room service, awaiting their departure from the ship the next morning. :confused3

*Bandaids and antibiotic ointment....also Children's Motrin and oral syringes to defeat any "owies"....yes, i am a nurse :flower:

*maybe a few pairs of flip flops but highly unlikely :guilty:

*pens, pencils, and highlighters

*Sunscreen and tampons......hey, you never know! pirate:

*A few Matchbox cars and a Gameboy cartidge or two......

*How about Carmex? I am addicted to Carmex......anybody else?

*our wine opener/cork screw that I hopefully pass through our checked luggage :earboy2:

*extra sunglasses

*the list of our DIS Friends cruising and their room #'s :wave2:

*....and many more items yet to find a home in the infamous over the door shoe holder

Well I'm the DW connected to the OP! Let me clarify that I couldn't see paying 15.00 for the one we saw yesterday! We are going to go to the dollar store and find one!
If I can use a pocket in it for Carmex, you bet we'll get one! Maybe one just for my Carmex! I'm always losing mine and then I start to panic! :earseek:

I'm currently on my first cruise and found the shoe holder idea very useful. As to what goes in it, just look around your house. What is on top of the table closest to the door? What is on your dresser?

The think you will notice about the cabins when you first start to setup home is the very limited amount of table top space to put junk on. You seen end up with every square inch covered. That is the time to break out the shoe holder and start putting stuff in it. Go vertical instead of horizontal.

Great idea.

Do you have a Target near you? I found them there for $5.99 and at WalMart I believe they were $4.99. You may want to check there!

the BEST tip I've ever used from these boards.
Taking friends along on the Magic in 4 weeks - bought them one
as a gift....they asked what in the world to do with it.....they will
thank me many times over.
It really kept our cabin organized (and we ARE THE most unorganized
family, believe me).
