over exposed photo

is it possible to take an overexposed picture and fix it ?

if you shoot RAW, it is sometimes possible. It depends a lot on the camera and conditions.

It is much MUCH harder to fix a JPEG. Is there a sample you can post, or give more details?

It depends on the file format, how badly its overexposed and software. Can you post up an example?

Sometimes it can be recovered. If you have one in mind go ahead and post it- or a link to a full size file would be even better.

thank you all for the replies. Again, this is one of my photos from my son, with his father and I. Too sensitive to post here. But I think I will try piknick to see if I can adjust it at all. It was shot with a 35mm don't know the brand. A friend came to the hospital and had her dads camera, she didn't really know how to use it but I am so thankful for what I do have.

If it was shot with a 35mm, how exactly are you getting the digital image to manipulate?

I'm thinking there really isn't much anyone can do, because anyplace where the picture is blown out, all your going to have to work with is white
