Over 50 DVC owners

I bought into DVC when I was 51, never thinking that WDW would change so much and DVC would fall on such bad times. I thought I was buying into an upscale place, boy, was I wrong. Here is a very important thing to think of, is WDW really going to be a place you want to go to every year. It has turned into a very thrill ride place with standards going down every year as it tries to keep costs down so in can service the demographic it has chased after since 97. When I bought I never gave health a thought, a few years later I have cancer and still do. I doubt I will see the average age of death that being 77 or so. Changing tastes, when you get a little older are very important to me, I try to stay at only the best places now, WDW and DVC are no longer one of those best places; however, the weather is great down there in the winter.

I purchased an OKW resale in 2002 at age over 50. I usually go solo. For me it is a wonderful quick get-away 3/4 days from a stressful job. I haven't regretted it.

First contract at 54 in 1997 second at 57 third at 60 - now have total of 520 points OKW 220 BCV a SSR 150 each. I have compared the rack rates for the reservations we have used and have more than recouped every penny. I must say that I would not rent this type of accomodations at those rates so feel really great about DVC and the ability to stay in such great places for the cost of value or moderate rooms. I was fortunate in that financing was not really an issue for two of the contracts ( although I would rather have my father still here instead of the money that enabled me to do this.) At this time looking at the resale prices I should be able to sell any of the contracts if I had to and at least get all of my purchase price back if not more. HOpefully will never have to sell as it is the best thing I ever did to insure lots of quality vacations in the future.

While I don't personally fit into the category, the early purchasers of DVC were primarily older. After all, it's the folks in their 50's that have more disposable income to put into newfangled things like the Disney Vacation Club. No reason to let age stop you....hopefully, you'll get the full 50 year use of SSR.

DH and I were both 49 when we joined DVC 2 years ago. We made many trips to WDW staying in moderates. But we couldn't really afford to join until the kids were grown. We made our first DVC trip last summer with 8 additional extended family members. We have no grandchildren yet, so we borrowed my brothers 8 and 10 year old kids and we had a blast. They had not been to WDW before and they thought everything was awesome! WE are looking forward to many more trips by ourselves and with family. We are also getting addonitis.

We bought after we went to Disney alone(after raising 4 kids) and still loved it just as much alone and over fifty. I tried for years to get my DH to buy but didn't till then even though we went almost every year with some of our family. We also wish we bought sooner but I sure glad we did. Since the first contract of 230 points we have added on twice. We love to go alone and we love to go with our children and grand children. We also have used it at HH and Vero. Great places to just go alone. You won't regret it.
