Outrageous Boma drink prices

When I was in EPCOT, I tried the "Nuvo" at the French pavilion. I believe it was 15.00, but it was POTENT.....well worth the money!:thumbsup2

Ah you feel my pain!!!!! lol I am down to my sink and a stove I light with an Aim n Flame.
You had a sink?! We were reduced to washing dishes in the tub...which meant that we used disposable or cast iron. I was so excited the day that the counters went in & I had a kitchen sink again that I took pictures of the water running.

We were also reduced to grilling on the side lawn since the backyard was torn up. Since we're on a corner it meant that neighbors were always "dropping in" to see what was cooking. I had no stove, yet I'd end up doing breakfast for 10 :lmao: .

Speaking of food though get yourself a copy of the dressing from LTT for the summer. If you aren't going soon or can't find it, PM me and I'll send it to you. It is awesome for a light summer salad!
I'll be PM-ing you :) . I'm also going to send you a link to a kitchen forum website that has TONS of tips for surviving without a kitchen.

BUT back to the topic on hand:

In a recently posted review for Flying Fish the reviewer noted a big discrepancy in prices for her vodka martini at Raglan Rd vs FF. The same martini at FF was significantly cheaper than at Raglan Rd. I know that RR isn't Disney owned but are drink prices in fact standardized throughout WDW? I would think that things like a Glowtini would be. Obviously the drink that the OP had was not.

And Madcoco is right, chains like Chilis never list their specialty drink prices even though they've got those big, glossy drink menus right there on the table. "Specialty" drinks tend to be a killer.

I'm sorry but I never ask the price of a Captain and Coke when I order it for my husband. Its a standard cocktail and I've never seen a restaurant list the prices of their cocktails unless they are promoting a happy hour.

Exactly. Beer and wine are usually listed but mixed drinks, almost never.

I'm not saying you have to ask how much a drink is before you purchase it, but if you have an issue with paying too much for a drink then you should ask. It's not the restaurants fault after the fact that you don't want to pay $15 for a cocktail. I don't care how much a drink costs, therefore I do not ask beforehand.

Recipe I found on these boards for Grey Goose Citron Slushy:

1 qt Grey Goose Citron Vodka 1 cup lemon/lime sour mix

Enjoy:thumbsup2

Silly story: Yes, you can't take drinks out of Epcot. My husband and I were leaving through the International Gateway. I had about half of my Grey Goose with me as I get serious "chest freeze" as opposed to "brain freeze" when drinking iced drinks too fast.

They stopped me at the outgoing gate. My husband needed to use the restroom just outside so I offered to wait inside and finish my drink.

Just after he left a woman rushed up and asked for the closest restroom - with a glass of red wine in her hand! She was told to go back to Great Britain. Since she looked so frantic I offered to hold her wine so she could use the outside "facilities."

The Security guys had a great time with me - holding two drinks - suggested I pour the wine into the vodka and make a "pink drink" and calling me a "two fisted drinker" :rotfl2:

When my husband got back, we waited a short time for the wine lady and when she showed up I noticed that her husband had also been waiting and looking at me very strangely. Guess he thought I may have mugged his wife for her wine :confused3

I had the same experience at Chef Mickeys Breakfast Buffet. I started a post on this topic a while back. My Mimosa was $14.50. It's the most I've ever paid for a cocktail. The Managers excuse for the high cost was that they serve a premium Champagne costing $90 a bottle. :scared1:

I found this absolutely hysterical since we were served a standard buffet with large rodents running around the place! :rotfl: :rotfl2:

Lesson learned, now I always ask the price before ordering.

I worked at a very upscale cigar bar in Tampa and we used to get ultra top shelf liquors and the the owner displayed next to the regular liquors. You might see Johhny Walker Red and Black and then the Blue next to it. People would just assume the blue was a new one and order it, not knowing it was $50 a shot. We also carried Louis at $100 a shot and several others at $75 a shot. I have seen some wines be several hundred A GLASS. I always ask, I do not believe in if you have to ask you shouldn't be ordering. Plenty of places have ultra expensive liquors mixed in with regular and are hoping you don't ask and by the time you get the bill it is too late. I don't mind paying $15 a drink, I do mind paying $30 a drink. When we ate at California Grill, and the server recommended a perfect glass of wine that was better than the house we were looking at, it was $28 a glass. Lesson learned..lol

I think it's a little odd to use really expensive champagne for cocktails. Why would you want to mask the flavor?

I think the manager was full of crap. :lmao:

I'm not picking on the person who posted that, but there's no way they're using premium champagne for a Mimosa at Chef Mickey's. If someone had told me that I'd demand to see the bottle and I'd be looking for Premier Cru or Grand Cru on the label before I'd believe it ... but that assumes that they were serving French champagne and now my post is spiraling out of control so I think I'll just shut up ... :rotfl2:

I was reading this post and thought ummm a mimosa with breakfast before we hit the parks...yummmm.

But I have to ask, will I get a headache from it with the heat in Florida? I don't drink often or too much but when in WDW I like a good gin and tonic.

ITA, that is why I asked for and received money back on the drink. I never thought to ask to see the bottle, but that is a very good point that I will remember.

I expected an $8/10 mimosa considering the atmosphere of Chef Mickeys is casual and considering Disney pricing. To be served a supposed highend Champagne mixed with orange juice and charged $14.50 was nothing more than robbery. Worse yet, the OJ was included in the buffet price and a Mimosa or a full glass of that particular Champagne are priced the same! Next time, I'll be sure to mix my own.:rotfl2:

The Manager agreed that cocktail menus would save him a lot of angry customers. He stated he had no control over the pricing or the lack of menus. At the very least my waitress could have warned me. It seems it is a fairly comon complaint that they deal with daily.

BTW, a Mimosa a day earlier at Artist Point was $8 so this was what I was basing my pricing expectation on.

Without knowing your tolerance, I'd say you need a lot more than one mimosa to develop heat exhaustion. As for gin and tonics, I can't survive in the Magic Kingdom without getting lubricated in one of the resort lounges at lunchtime; but I am a Floridian, and used to the heat.

A $90 retail bottle of champagne at Disney is probably equal to a bottle we could buy for $25 at the store, not if its a $90 cost bottle. (which I doubt)

Are you sure it's champagne you're drinking?

Ha! I was going to say $15. If you're mixing it with oj what's the difference?
Of course they can charge whatever they want, but the $90 champagne quote is not realistic. How many servings for mimosas do they get out of a
"$90" bottle of champagne?

$14.50 for a Kir Royale, you should try coming over to England and paying £14, or about $26. As a Brit I think Disney is reasonably priced, therefore if I'm eating/drinking outside of the parks I think its dirt cheap!!

20oz soda bottle in disney is $2, outside disney $1 a 500ml soda bottle (our closet size, slightly smaller) is £1 ($1.95) most places and £1.40 ($2.80) in theme parks!!

America seems cheap to me!

You are supposed to get 5 servings of champagne in a bottle, if they dilute 1 to 1, that would be 10 servings, but I am guessing it would be two parts oj to one part champagne and maybe even three to 1 :( so they could get mileage out of it.

I had that same champagne/raspberry drink at the poly bar for the same price.
I was just at the dolphin, I ordered a martini, and was $15- I had a problem with that.

Whereabouts do you live in the UK? I must be going to the cheap bars/restuarants as I don't think I've ever paid £14 for a cocktail here. For me, although I think the food prices are ridiculously cheap, I think the alcohol costs are about on par with the UK, maybe slightly cheaper but not by much.
