Outgrowing Disney

I have 2 teen boys and a tween (17,15,12) and we have gone probably every other year for the past 10 years. My 17 year old is over it for now but my 15 and 12 year old love our trips. In fact we just bought our first DVC contract and wish we would have done it years ago. We bought at BWV so my husband and I will go down to Epcot festivals still even if the kids don’t come. But I still see many more trips with our younger 2 and maybe their friends!

I think Disney is outgrowing me, not the other way around. It’s now all about the adult business world, while this 50 year old is all kid at heart. See when you force me to see you as a business, I just might and that’s where the magic ends.

I stayed at the POLY as a 12 year old in October 1971, and I've never been able to escape. haha.

Our daughters ages 35 and 36 practically grew up at WDW. We now enjoy taking them and their families (including our 6 grandchildren) multiple times annually. My wife and I also take a several trips with just us each year as well.

So in our case, we've not outgrown Disney. 👍

Hi there! Our oldest DS is 21 and our youngest DS is 18. We took them to Disney for the first time when they were 9 and 6 respectively, and we've been going at least yearly ever since. There is no evidence yet of either of them outgrowing WDW. In 2022, my oldest and a college buddy flew down to meet me for their spring break week (they actually WANTED me to be there...granted I paid for everything, but still!!), and then we took our younger son's bestie along for the high school spring break week. Additionally, we're invested enough that we pulled the trigger and bought DVC direct at VGF in April. We already have a spring break trip planned in March of 2023 to celebrate our DS's high school graduation, and the older son is skipping a week of college (different spring break calendars) to join us.

We took our kids along with one set of grandparents to Universal a few years ago, and while we had a great time, we all couldn't wait to get back to Disney. Our boys just understood, even then, that there is something about WDW that you can't get anywhere else. The CMs, the special events, staying in "the bubble", the no brainer transportation, and the wide variety of restaurants all combine to make vacations very magical.

I tried explaining to the other set of grandparents-who have never gone to Disney and have no interest in joining us- why we keep going back. My MIL said, "You've already been there. Why go back? Isn't it the same every time?" My answer was simple...it's truly a different experience every time we go. We try different restaurants every time, we try different resorts every time, and we go at different times during the year. It all combines to make a different vacation every time we go. When DH and our boys and I reminisce, conversations usually go like this: "Remember when we did x at Disney? Oh yeah! That was when stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter...that was awesome!" Or "Wasn't x great at Disney? Yes! I think that was the time we stayed at BLT...I loved that place!" And so on...

OP, I think you have so much time to enjoy Disney with your kiddos. We didn't even start until our boys were in elementary school, so you are way ahead of the curve. Enjoy every magical minute with your children!
