Good Morning! Has anyone vacationed in the Outer Banks of NC? We have a b-i-g house rented for Sept. and I'd like to hear some info from vacatioers who have been there. We'll be staying at Schooner Ridge in Duck. Thanks!

I read this to my wife, who has vacationed in the Outer Banks before we met, and she said "oh, DUDE!!" when I said where you're staying. :) I think she's jealous.

I had never been so we drove down there for the day during Memorial Day weekend. Duck and Corolla are at the north end of the Outer Banks. DW stayed in Duck and it's very peaceful, away from the bulk of the "touristy", built-up areas. If history is your thing, it's also an easy drive to Kitty Hawk (the Wright Bros. first flight) and the lost colony.

Havent' stayed there in years ....but when I did ....I loved it ....

We stayed at Buxton, which is just down from Duck a few years ago. (We were right on the beach and could see the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse from our balcony.)

That is the less inhabitated area of the Outer Banks. You will really enjoy yourselves!!:D

I recommend taking the ferry boat over to Oracoke and also traveling up to Kitty Hawk!
Have fun!!
Pam

We have gone to the outer banks every summer for the past 15 years. Just returned home July 19. We stay in Southern Shores which is the town just south of Duck. We go into Duck a lot. What kind of info do you want? Feel free to PM me. I can recommend restaurants, kids activities, directions, what ever you need to know. How many of you are going? Will there be kids?

My godparents live in Morehead City, NC, and we have visited them many times. We love it up there! It's very relaxed and not as "touristy" as the Florida beaches I've been to. If you're up in that area, then be sure to go to the Sanitary seafood restaurant. :)

My aunt lives in Southern Shores, my nephew lives in Kitty Hawk and my sister lives in Frisco (just past Buxton). My SIL has a gift shop in Duck and my sister has one in Avon (just BEFORE Buxton)!;) We have vacationed in the Outer Banks since I was a little girl. When we first started going there there was no paved road and no Bonner Bridge!! It has changes a LOT since then but is still a little piece of heaven on earth. You will LOVE it!! Pm me if ya want more info!! Have a beautiful vacation!

We leave @the end of this week for the Outer Banks. We are staying in Frisco. We love the Outer Banks.

We rented a house on the ocean in Duck a few years ago.
It was absolutely beautiful. My kids want to go back so bad!!
You will really enjoy yourself. Duck is a quaint town with some
good shopping, and the beaches are out of this world!! Have
fun!!

Thanks for all the replies. This vaca is a relaxing one with extended family. The house sleeps 14. We will be all adults with our ds and dd and some college friends for the extended weekend. We plan on doing a few tourist -type things, but mostly just relaxing on the beach, catching up on some reading, etc. The OBX have some great deals in the off season. The house was $850.00 plus some extras for a 5-bedroom. I'm really looking forward to the trip. I f anyone knows of some good seafood restaurants in the mid-price range, let me know! Thanks again!

We vacationed in Duck several years ago with a large group of my family. It was beautiful and very peaceful. We take turns cooking meals so we did not get to enjoy any of the restaurants. My sister stayed there last year over Christmas and got an incredible deal!

Have a wonderful vacation!

My sister has a house in Duck. it's one of those 3 story houses. She rents it out for part of the year. She named it "El Magnifico". When she sent us pictures of it with the name after she bought it I felt like sending her a picture of our "hovel" and writing on the bottom "el pequenito". She keeps asking us to come down, but it would be areal hike for us. Have fun-it's supposed to be beautiful there. My sister and her husband are wind surfers, and the wind surfing is supposed to be great there!
