Odd questions.

We just returned and noticed that the fans that Disney uses in its lines (i.e. Test Track queue for instance) are very high powered and put out a lot of air with a great force. Does anyone know what type of fans these are and where to get one for residential uses? I would love to have one of these for my back patio in the summer.

I've seen them heavily used in a few industrial applications but some of the large overhead fans are readily available in fan stores. It might be a little rough to find it but there is some industrial suppliers that will sell to non-customers. They don't have showrooms but they do have extensive online catalogs. McMaster Carr is the first place I would check as you can search for fan and find the page in their online catalog pretty quick.

there is also a lot of shops depending on the area of the US your located that specialize in surplus parts (especially around california) if you do some creative googling to see if you can find any. Farmer supply stores may have them also if you're in an area with farmers (or happen to drive past the local dealer with tractors and things on the lot).

And last, if you have a builder or friends that have one (or are one), they can probably help you get something similar that has a large cfm (the rating of how much air a fan pushes) that fits your style.

EDIT TO ADD: Also ask your local mechanic where you might be able to find fans like that, they tend to not have a/c in their shops and need the ventilation.

Try somewhere like Grainger.com, or google 'industrial fans'

Be aware that such a fan will be very loud in a residential setting. The sound at WDW gets lost in the crowd noise. But on a patio at home, it would be like living near an airport.

Thanks for the heads up. Had not considered that. I will check around and see what I can find.

You can always check out Big A(another word for donkey) Fan Company. They make great barn fans, and even if it's not what you need, it's at least good for a grin ;)
