I thought of all you in car 3 last night while were watching L&S. After seeing all the previews my 8yo DD turned to me and said"Mom why is Disney so lazy that their only make number 2 movies(IE sequels)? They look bad like a Nintendo game." I thought that summed up my whole thoughts on Jungle Book II, Dalmations II etc....Little does she know there is a movie about the Country Bears and the Haunted Mansion. If an 8yo can figure it out why do the Disney higher ups have such a hard time. Maybe they should talk to their target audience?

It's pretty pathetic when an 8 year old can recognize that Disney is being lazy.

I remember years ago when I got the ORIGINAL Little Mermaid release. The one that came out after its original theatrical run. What was that? 1990 or 1991?

Anyway, I remember watching the video, and there being NO previews. Not a one.

How I miss those days.

Speaking of previews, I remember seeing the "Lion King" trailer for the first time in a theater and almost dropping my popcorn.

Will there ever be a day where that happens again? :(

I had the same reaction when I saw the preview for Country Bears, but it wasn't because I was excited. We're now pre-selling "101 Dalmatians II" in the stores, but I can't even bring myself to promoting it.

Funny, when we had the $10 DVD sale almost all we had left at the end were Cinderella II, Hunchback II, Little Mermaid II, Return to Neverland, and Tarzan and Jane. No one even wanted them when they were half off.

My son (4) likes to pretend we are in movies. He'll say, "I'm pretending we are in "Mulan", or "Indiana Jones".

After watching Lilo and Stitch last night, he said "I'm pretending we are in Lilo and Stitch 3."

That's right, 3.

Sounds like he's ready for the Disney management program!

Seriously though, I don't mind having so many previews (you can skip them if you want to), but this is the first time it struck me that there was virtually no original material being promoted on such a major release.

Nothing for "Finding Nemo", nothing for "Treasure Planet", and nothing for whatever the next Disney original theatrical release is going to be, either animated or live action.

Leaving "Nemo" off seems particularly strange...

That's more my problem. I'd rather see nothing (and have to skip through nothing) than to have previews for nothing but sequels and previously released materials.

I don't mind previews either as long as they are previewing something decent. I remember how excited I used to feel when I saw a preview for each successive Disney animated blockbuster. I don't feel very interested much less excited nowadays.

That may have to do with how quickly they put together this release of L&S. It was originally slated for a January of February release date & the marketing guys decided that they wanted a share of the Christmas rush, so we have a single disk DVD with a few fairly fluffy extras.

The Collector's Edition should be out in January or February as originally scheduled. I remember reading that Disney is actually hoping people will buy both editions. Talk about the ultimate Ei$ner-ism.

The sad thing is, I probably will. My son asked Santa for the dvd of L&S. Our Santa list is very short (Because Santa has a lot of kids to take care of)...The things asked from Santa are ALWAYS under the tree...so when he threw that in at the last minute, I cringed...

Eisner wins this one....

*sigh*
