Out of control security bag lines

You’ve had that experience with strollers. Others have had other experiences.

Traditionally the true security at Disney happens because of longer lines; the remote watching of it all. It’s not the cm either barely looking at your bag or nearly turning it inside out (I’ve had both happen), it’s the hidden security watching over everything.

Sometimes they look a little bit more than others but bottom line is if you put some hidden compartments, hide items under padding in car seats there is an extremely almost certain chance you'll get through. Has anyone had Disney CM's take apart strollers and car seats?

Some people just really fall for the theatrics, I mean if you open a bag and dump out all it's contents you are still not being effective considering a terrorist would likely sew in hidden pockets and it would be secured in a way as to not fall out or make much noise. The bag check will continue to fail until bags are emptied xrayed and swabbed for explosive residue ON TOP of behavior analyst watching everyone IMHO that is not practical for a theme park so instead they give you the first show of your visit that day and hope to maybe deter someone and hope that they go else where instead of just waiting for a super long security line and blowing that up instead.

At around 9 am, dozens of school busses dropped off students at Toy Story. By noon, the lines were mostly back to normal.

When I got to security a little after 10, the lines were almost back to the bus unloading zone. It was insane.

Arrived to Harbor security at 9:03 this morning. Lines were quite backed up. Went to the far left, through the “cast walkway,” which moved considerably faster than the other lines. They had an employee directing one main line into the three table lines, which was helpful. Was inside DL by 9:19.

Just left at noon and there’s zero security line at all. I’ll be back in a few hours and will report back then.

The security guy at the no-bag line says, “it’s always here in the morning but does occasionally get converted into a regular security line in the afternoon.”

ETA: No strollers in the no-bag line, “NOTHING OUTSIDE OF YOUR POCKETS” was what they were saying on the megaphone this morning.

My Disney bag is so small it can fit in my pocket. If the line is open the evening we leave the kids with my mom we'll have to slip through there. Otherwise we always have a stroller since we have a 2 y/o

You’ll have to take it out for the metal detector and then they will likely stop and search it. Making the people behind you less than thrilled.

Almost certainly. Strollers have places to put stuff so they need to be checked.

LOL I have never done a stroller at a Disney park but I figured that would be the case.

Please have a stroller for the 3 year old. My son is an active dude who didn’t use a stroller (other than a jogger for when I would jog) at home, but he needed one until he was all the way through 5.

And the last trip we took when he was 5 we thought we could get along without it because we were staying at the Grand, but we had to carry him back for an afternoon break and he wouldn’t move when we went back to the parks later that day lol. Had to use the stroller.

Different strokes for different folks. We did four boys who all started at 3-5 years old at DLR and never took a stroller. For us it was one more thing to worry about - crowds, theft, etc. We always took afternoon breaks and the boys would nap for 1-3 hours.

I am hoping to not do a stroller for DGD3 but I am not the parent here so I am not sure what we will decide. We have 5 adults and one child which is much better odds than with my own kids where there were two adults and four kids.

If you can leave your Disney bag with your mom, that would be easiest. If you must take all your things and if what is in your Disney bag will fit in a clear quart plastic zipper bag, transfer the contents to the zipper bag (easiest if it isn't bulging full) and put that in your pocket. Then when you go through the detector, put the clear bag in the tray. The CM should be able to inspect everything on sight and most likely won't send you back for further inspection. It also will keep all your things together so that you don't risk losing stuff at the detector. This should make it easier on you, the CM, and everyone in line behind you. DH does this when he wears cargo pockets. He has a zipper bag with his keys, wallet, phone, etc., puts the bag in the tray, goes through the detector, then later fills his pockets from the bag after clearing security.

Doubt that. One it's about the size of a wallet and they don't search those. Basically a wallet on a lanyard like strap with just enough room for my phone and credit card. And two they're so backed up and busy at the metal detectors that they wouldn't notice me pull it out and slide my phone in it. Not that it matters as it probably won't be open anyway.

First I said it is doubtful. Second she said they said everything must fit in your pocket. It was mostly meant to be funny. I read what they said and then laughed to myself because my bag fits in my pocket.

Yeah but in all of my years of bag check, no one ever once asked me to open my wallet until I bought that one. And it’s smaller than any one I’ve owned before. I just thought it was funny. They will ignore a big fabric pouch with snacks inside but want to see my credit cards

I am not sure if we will have a stroller for our DGD3 that morning, but if you do does that disqualify you for the no bag line?

Strollers, wheelchairs, and ECVs must use the regular lines.

People who think they don’t have never seen a response to an incident. Not sure where all the plainclothes (meaning they look like tourists but aren’t) and uniformed security people and officers come from, but they’ll swoop and swoop FAST. It’s an amazing thing.

Isn't it!! I remember the first time I witnessed one, I would never have suspected them of being "undercover". Looked like your typical Disney dad, coffee and stroller (with balloon) in hand... Only no kid in the stroller!!! Since then I have witnessed a few more (and been involved in one altercation where I was shocked at how fast I was "rescued".

The fastest I ever got thru was probably 2-3 mins, but we had 2 days where I got 25 and 35 mins of wait time to get thru bag check.

Yeah, but last trip they sent a guy who tried to hide his fanny pack, but was found out back thru the now very long regular line. He got mad, but APD was right there to assist with moving him. And there was the guy who took 4+ times thru the detecter because he wouldn't empty his pockets, was just taking one thing at a time out, holding everyone up. Yep, people behid him were not very happy.

They always make my daughters unzip their wallet to look in.

I went through no bag with a wristlet in my pocket. When I put it and my phone in the dish at the metal detector they made me unzip it. It only took a few seconds as it really is only a wallet with credit cards and such, but they are paying attention to what people have in their pockets.

A mother and daughter were ahead of me and the daughter scooted past her mother because she did not have a bag. The security officer asked her to come back and she replied, ¨I´m with her¨ but he insisted on giving her a quick look over before she could pass.

The point of this story is that it seems that everyone must be looked over, bag or not, before proceeding through the metal detectors.

Really thinking about this makes me sad....................

FYI, this past Tuesday I arrived at 5:56 pm and there was NOT a no-bag line. First time I’ve seen that in a few months, even with other evening arrivals.

Lines looked long (the middle line wrapped past the bus barriers, the left table wasn’t open at all), but we were through in 9 minutes.

I have a perfectly flat glittery Mickey wallet that can only hold a few credit cards and bills. They have me open that all up, too, even the zippered dollar bill part of it. I was surprised, but now expect it.

Also, a prior post mentioned that real criminals would sew in secret compartments and stuff like that. I've found Security to be really good about squishing bags to feel for anything hidden.

All in all, it's tedious, but I'm glad they are thorough and do believe it has to make for a safer park.

Leaving after a week with 6 days at the parks. We entered twice a day most days after an afternoon break. Even when security looked long it was never more than 10 minutes. Usuallly 5 or less. Getting into the parks is a different beast though.

Yesterday we arrived at 8:00 and were surprised how light security was. Then we realized the gates weren't open. They had extended closing time, but not entry time and I had forgotten they didn't open until 9. By the time they opened the gates the lines for Disneyland and DCA were both extremely long and nearly touching. It was crazy to see all those people. 9 is a late opening.
