It happened today - we stayed overnight last night in Stafford - we had 2 rooms at the Days Inn (bargain price at £10 per room as per newspaper offer last October:cool1:) and had a nice meal and visited a couple of bars in the town centre.

We then went to Alton Towers today for my DD's birthday - it poured down all day, was cold and horrible - we only got to do indoor attractions (all 4 of them) - who goes to Alton Towers without riding a single coaster (not me - usually). Bought Alton Towers ponchos for £6 each for DD and her friend which ripped by the end of the day. I wore my new DLRP raincoat but what a breach of the Trade Description Act that was (do they have that Act in France - probably not) - the rain just soaked right through and I was dripping - so it's back to the Disney ponchos for WDW in August.

After a long and perilous drive in the rain we got home and have spent all evening trying to warm up. Never mind I have half a days holiday from work tomorrow and I am taking DD to the Trafford Centre to spend some serious money - she has finished college now till September.

Sorry to hear about your day,i cant believe the prices they charge for a plastic poncho!:sad1:
Its been tipping it down this weekend and were supposed to be having a drought this month!:cool2:

Sorry to hear you had a rough time. I went on Halloween a few years back and it was warm, we went on the log flume and everything was fine. Then it rained and went very cold.

Hopefully next time you go you'll have a better experience. Their ponchos are pants though, completely a waste of money. Hope you've warmed up by now :goodvibes

It has been vile weather today .... my idea of hell being in a UK theme park in the cold and rain so you are lucky you are still sane. You poor thing ... hope you thaw out soon. Hope you have a better day in the Trafford Centre - at least it's dry. ( and there is Starbucks / Costa )

sorry to hear you had such a rotten day at AT - hope you're all warm now and looking forward to your shopping expedition tomorrow

This is the exact reason, I go to Florida for my holidays.

David

Sorry about your visit! If the coasters were down all day because of rain (we had rain on my visit but it didn't close the attractions), maybe it's worth sending an e-mail to Alton Towers HR. You never know!

We went to AT a couple of weeks ago. We had power cuts in the afternoon which cut off a lot of the major rides and then it rained. We had to walk back to the car in the rain because the monorails were down! Know how you feel, silly British weather.

Sorry you had such a bad day, it really was a horrible day yesterday, the rain never let up and it was so cold

Have fun at the Trafford Centre today, I love shopping there ::yes::

Sorry you had such a bad day, I love the trafford centre do they still have the rain forest cafe there

Shame you had such a horrible day.

Beginning to wonder if summer will ever start here. Feel sorry for the kids who are due to start their summer holidays next week :rolleyes1

I was at Alton Towers yesterday as well, it was horrid weather wasn't it, we did do everything but gave up at about 2:30pm and went back to the hotel.

What a shame - hope you had a good time at the shops today.

My youngest two want us to drop them at Thorpe Park en route to the Tony Romas meal next Sunday but at the moment the weather forecast doesn't look good for that day either.

Sorry to hear that :( we spent 3 days there last week and it rained but still managed all the rides. If you do ever go back instead of spending £6 for a poncho, look out for a machine while in queue for the Flume or the Rapids. The machines have a cheap clear poncho which does the job and its only £2, they have childs and adults.

I feel your pain. We went to Alton Towers last month and it poured with rain all morning. It did brighten up in the afternoon. We also went to Legoland last Sunday and it poured with rain all day. The next day at Chessington was bright and sunny! I hate our British weather.

I buy ponchos from Asda - the adults ones are £1.50 and the children's are 2 for £1.50. They are no better or worse than the ones in the parks for £6.

Definitely cheapo ponchos from now on - although DH is saying he will never go to a Britsh theme park again - we'll see (he's 50 today BTW:bday: - starting to feel grimpy old man-ish) I suppose I thought the ponchos with an AT logo would look cool in Florida in August - not so now.
