Now on to the food!
01-01-05 Continued...
After the wedding all of us went to the Kona Cafe for lunch. I was still floating on cloud nine and really excited, but I was ready to eat! We all got different appetizers so I was able to try the crab cakes that my mother-in -law had and they were very good. But I was so happy that my new husband (ha!) and I ordered the sticky wings. If you haven't had these you have to try them. They were perfect chicken wings with a sticky glaze and some kind of mustard drizzle. Since I usually spill all food and drink all over myself, these were a challenge to eat in a wedding dress but I pulled it off! We split the Asian deli sandwich for our meal. I was very happy with this. It came with sweet potato chips, which were great.
We had a lot of left over cake so we were going to eat that for dessert, but our waiter brought Billy and I some Ko Ko puffs.
Heaven! Then everyone else decided to order dessert and I know that everyone was happy but I couldn't tell you what they got. Again, I was in kind of a daze of love and happiness. I do know, however, that we will return to the Kona Cafe!
Dinner: Our much awaited trip to the California Grill! We spent the afternoon after the wedding at the Animal Kingdom with our families. Of course, I took my dress off and the plan was to put it back on before Dinner. However, I could not face putting that dress back on. I loved it, and it was beautiful, but I really wanted to enjoy my dinner. So, we arrived with me wearing my veil, my tiara, and jeans. We were seated and the waiter helped us pick out some champagne. We started with the flank steak flatbread. This was wonderful. It had fried onions on the top and some kind of blue cheese sauce.
Then we had the goat cheese ravioli. Billy and I are both big goat cheese fans, but this was unbelievable! This was one of the best things I have ever tasted!
I thought about ordering this as my entree but Billy thought I would be sad if I didn't try something else. So I ordered the scallops with truffle risotto and Billy ordered the pork tenderloin with goat cheese polenta. (More goat cheese!) I love scallops and I was not disappointed. These were so tender and fresh.
Then we had the warm chocolate cake for dessert.
Everything was delicious. Billy loved his meal as well. We went outside to watch Wishes and it was perfect. This meal took about 3 hours from start to finish. We had a wonderful wedding day.
01-02-05: Magic Kingdom Day! We had PS for Crystal Palace at 8:00. My mom, my grandma, my 2-year-old nephew, and Billy's mom, dad and brother joined us. I am so glad we did this. We had excellent character interaction and the food was really good. All you can eat sausage and potatoes! My dream come true. I also had orange juice and coke. The vegetable frittata was excellent; everyone loved this. And Billy could not stop eating the cheesy potatoes. At this point I was fighting off a really bad headache but I was still so happy because I could tell Disney was working it's magic on my family. Everyone was smiling and joking around...I'm smiling just thinking about it.
My nephew getting some lovin' from Piglet!
Snacks: Popcorn, lots of water (I think drinking so much coke was causing my headache) and ice cream. I made my mom get the Mickey bar and she loved it.
Dinner: We didn't have lunch since we ate so much at breakfast. We stopped at Columbia Harbor House and I'm glad we did. They had mac and cheese for my nephew, which was great, because he really hadn't been eating too much. He's a fruit and veggie kid, with the occasional grilled cheese or mac and cheese thrown in. His favorite food is raw tomatoes. I had chicken strips and Billy had the Fish and Chicken combo. I was impressed with the quality of the food at counter service places at WDW. My mom had the clam chowder, which she really liked, and my grandma had a really good salad with chicken, pecans, pineapple, and feta cheese. The salad was very fresh.
01-03-05: We were exhausted so we slept late and did laundry in the morning. We had lunch at the food court. Billy had a hamburger and I had a hot dog. Sounds blah, but they were both hot off the grill and very good. I continued to be impressed with POFQ food court.
Dinner: Mama Melrose's at MGM: Fantasmic Dinner Package. We did this with Billy's mom, dad, and brother. We started off with the salad and I absolutely loved this. The vinaigrette was so delicious, I could have eaten the whole bowl. Then we shared the grilled chicken flatbread. It was good, but next time I would try another one. I had the Penne alla Vodka. This was very good and a huge portion. Billy had the Wood Fired Chicken Pipette. It didn't taste right when it came to the table, and I told him that I didn't think it had any sauce on it. It seemed like the noodles where in some kind of olive oil sauce but nothing else. Sure enough, our waiter came to the table and said they had forgotten to put the sauce on. Once the four-cheese sauce was on, this was really good. For dessert I had tiramisu, which I love. I hate to say this, but the tiramisu is better at the Olive Garden! I still ate it. Who can pass up a plate of cream and ladyfingers? One problem: our waiter, William, was not very good. We had to continually ask for our drinks to be refilled and the restaurant was not that busy. He basically ignored us. Even with that problem, I would still return. FYI: Fantasmic was great!!! We had awesome seats.
01-04-05: Breakfast in the POFQ food court. I strayed from the sausage and potatoes and had a cheese omelet. This was good, just an omelet. I couldn't finish it. I loved the biscuit that came with it. Billy had biscuits and gravy and I was jealous. I ate some of his. A few bites of his sausage may have been taken, I don't know.
Lunch: Epcot. I consider myself to be somewhat of a foodie, I watch the food network constantly, and I like eating at fancy restaurants and trying new things. I'm an adventurous eater. As is Billy. With all of the countries to choose from to eat at in Epcot, what do you think we chose? America, that's right, America. Something about Disney World has brought out my inner chicken strip and hot dog because that's all I was craving all week. Anyway, we had some chicken strips and a hamburger. We split this down the middle. Don't forget the huge Coke. It was good. What can I say, I'm ashamed.
Dinner: We went to Cirque du Soleil and headed to the Earl of Sandwich afterwards. It was a repeat of the best meatball sandwich ever meal. Billy had his original again. We were happy. Go to Earl of Sandwich!!
01-05-05: Breakfast at the POFQ. Biscuits and gravy and sausage and cokes. Need I say more?
Lunch: Backlot Express at MGM. I had the grilled turkey sandwich. This was OK, but if you don't like a lot of seeds in your bread I would skip this. Billy got the chicken strips. After this he actually turned into a chicken strip.
Snacks: Soft Serve Twist waffle cone from the big dinosaur at MGM. This was so good!
Dinner: After Wishes, we had two gigantic hot dogs, fries and cokes at Casey's in the Magic Kingdom. This was during extra magic hours. Wow, were we happy and satisfied with this meal. Nothing like watching the castle change colors while you're eating a huge hot dog!
Snack: Toll House Cookies from Main Street. A little crispy but good.
01-06-05: Our last day. I was so sad, our last breakfast at POFQ. Why? Why? Biscuits and gravy, sausage and cokes. We also added in some grapes because I was feeling guilty about all the meat and bread we had been eating.
Lunch: Animal Kingdom. We shared some pot stickers from Asia and fries. It was OK. The pot stickers were too hard to eat. Not good theme park food. They were still very flavorful.
Snack: Soft Serve twist waffle cone. Yum!
Dinner: We loved Fantasmic so much that we made PS for Hollywood and Vine that night. This was a really good buffet and we are definitely doing this one again. The salad dressing alone was good enough for me. They had blue cheese and bacon butter to put on your bread! The steak was great; you could cut it with a fork. And the mashed potatoes! So good. If you haven't tried this you should. The snickers cheesecake was delicious. We also had a very good server named Mandi. Fantasmic was even better this time.
That's it, the end of our Disney Dining Experience. I was so sad to go, but I have turned my husband into a Disney fanatic so I know we will be back. We really had the most wonderful time. I think if you go to Disney World with an open mind, and not expect world class quality everywhere, you will find surprises, like the best sausage links money can buy! Thanks for reading!
