Previously I posted (and can't find) how I measured the distance from our home to the Polynesian. It was 1037 miles. This was in the spring. During the spring and summer before our September trip we walked the neighborhood, rode bikes in the neighborhood and to the small town where my boys go to school. Each time we rode or walked we logged the miles...we completed the 1037 miles before our trip...this was to get us in shape for our walking so much in the parks (my boys are 11 and 13). We spent time as a family riding/walking. Our furthest ride was 18 miles roundtrip to get ice cream....we did this 3 times.
Before we started I got the typical look of "how stupid are you" from the family. Once we started it became "competative" to see how far we would all go each day. When we got really close I was reading my Family Circle and saw where people can send in readers tips...so I got a look again when I said I was going to send it in. I sent an email and forgot until a couple weeks later an email from an editor who loved the idea. There is going to be a picture and small tip on this in the November 29th issue. Yes, I might not have been the first person to think of this...but we completed it and sent it to them. I am one proud mom of her family who followed thru with something and got closer doing it! We continue to journey our way back from Disney. For our next trip...we will make our way there! In the cold weather there is the treadmill and exercise bike!
