Blow off the wedding or pull the kids out of school. I have heard every nightmare scenario about pulling you child out of school for a week and I don't buy any of it. Sorry.

No need to double check. Schools in NJ start after labor day. I'm planning on going that week too and now I'm wondering if it'll be another Jersey week. No offense to my fellow citizens of the great state of NJ but I really don't care to take a vacation and run into people I try to avoid every day Actually, I don't care to run into anyone at all and hope that's going to be a slow week. I was aiming for June and booked the ASMu family suite for June but will be cancelling before the $$ is due and rebooking for Aug 30 through the 1st wk of Sept.

Four words: No child left behind. Some schools around me in NJ take that a liiiiitle too far. My former stepdaughter (feels good to say that!) missed 24 days of school (all unexcused) when she left my house and 54 after she got knocked up. They PASSED her ANYWAY! She graduated without a day of summer school!!

Don't get me wrong, I do NOT agree with what the school did whatsoever, I'm just providing an example of why some of us don't think twice about pulling our kids out of school for a week. I did it this year while DD was in K and I will do it again next year if I think she and DS can handle it. DD's K teacher told her other kids were going too and told her to have a great time the Friday before we left.

Check this. Our school district hasn't started before Labor Day in 20+ years and in 2009, they will be. Labor Day is Sept. 7, 2009, so many schools are forced to start before Labor Day or they will be getting out late late late June. Your school district calendar is probably posted on their website -- I know ours was just approved for 2009-2010 and it is dramatically different due to strange holidays (Labor Day most specifically).
