Our Thanksgiving aboard the Wonder TR!

You have a beautiful family Socababy! I am thoroughly enjoying your trip report. It makes me so excited for our cruise. We are also from SoCal and this will be the very first cruise for DD and for me. Hubby has cruised plenty, but never on a Disney cruise!

Loving your TR! We sail the Wonder in February and we are staying in 8032 as well! Your kids are so adorable and they look like they are having the time of their lives

Now I really hope that they did a good job cleaning up the wine stain!! LOL

Good to hear that you had a good time. Our family enjoyed the FE exchange. I even enjoyed the rocking, just wish everyone in our group did. I spent time just helping the girls with sea sickness. Did you have any problems once back on land? I sure did. The world was still rocking for a week after.

When we sailed last Feb, I was rocking and rolling on land for nearly a week. This time I was perfectly fine. In fact, Jason was the only one messed up after getting back. I think it took him a couple of days to feel normal again. Last Feb the movement of the ship seemed to be side to side. This time, it seemed to be front to back. Maybe that made a difference with me.

Socababy do you have any tips or tricks for concierge ? Anything special we should ask for? Thanks this is our first ever cruise.

Great trip report. Thanks. We have that same suite booked. Do the drapes work well so that it is easy to sleep in? I want my kids to sleep in because of jet lag but the youngest wakes as soon as the sun comes up.

Before I start Day 7, here are the 'wedding pics' we took outside of Treasure Ketch. We are tempted to buy them and then wear them around Disneyland whenever we go! LOL

Day 7

This week went by so fast! All week our plan was for me to take all 6 kids to go see the Muppets at 10am while my friend and her Dh enjoyed themselves at the Spa doing the Exotic Rasul at 9:30. Even though I am considered his second wife, I decided not to join them at their spa appt. Dh was all for it but the wives not so much! LOL Of course this great plan of ours was all before their ds6 got sick in the lab the night before. Turns out that even when they picked him up from the lab last night, he felt totally fine even though he had just thrown up. We all think that his little tummy just wasn’t use to eating all this fried, unhealthy food every night of the week. Regardless, he needed to be cleared by the ship’s doctor before he could go back to the lab. Therefore, my friends had to cancel their spa appt. All they had to do was a get a written note from the dr. and bring it to the spa so that they wouldn’t get charge for a last minute cancellation.

We met for breakfast at 8:45ish. This was the first time we went to Tritons for breakfast all week (with the exception of ordering breakfast from Tritons to the suite earlier in the week.) Food was good and I was excited to be able to request some crispy bacon. It came out perfect! Once breakfast was over, my friend and I took the 5 kids to the lab/club while her Dh took their ds6 to the dr. My dd never hesitated going into the club until this morning! I told her that I wasn’t going back to the room and that I needed to get some things done and if she didn’t want to go in the club, she was going to have to just come with me. She chose to go with me. Turns out that as we approached the club, she was looking in as if she was looking for someone. The back wall near where they have the stage had rope on it and it was kind of dark. Dd thought that Captain Hook was coming back by for a visit and needless to say, she does not like him. It may be his very large head that has her spooked. Of course this didn’t all register with me until later when I finally asked her some questions.

My friend and I along with dd headed up to BBB to see if we could get some things together to take back to the room for breakfast in the morning. We grabbed some cartons of milk, cereal, bananas, cantaloupe, grapes, trail mix and muffins. We brought them back to the room and put them in some zip lock bags I had brought. When we sailed last time it was a chaotic mess going down to eat at the restaurant with all our carry on bags so I opted to eat in the room. Then we went to Shutters to decide what pics we wanted to get. We both had purchased a cd but I was the only one who decided to get a small package of photos with the borders at the half price discount since I purchased the cd. Cd was $249 and I ended up with 90+ pics while my friend ended up with around 140 pics. After spending quite a bit of time looking at pics, dd and I head back to the room to shower and get dressed. I told her at that time that she will have to go back in the club at 3 when the adults go to High Tea. While in the room, Tawanda stops by. I immediately tell him that it was so kind of Nathan to give the kids the TS dolls but how totally unnecessary it was. He then gave me a Ducky Williams lithograph and we talked briefly about my upcoming cruises. He asked if we’d like to meet him tonight in front of the Cadillac Lounge at 7:55 and I said that would be great. Around 1, my friends and I go and get the kids for lunch. I wanted to eat at Tritons since we hadn’t eaten there for lunch either but there was a wait to be seated so we decided to go to Parrot Cay. Bad decision! While they had some great Asian inspired dishes for the adults, they did not have one entrée that any of our 6 kids would eat! My kid’s plates had some cheese, crackers and olives on them. We told the kids we could go up to deck 9 and get them a hot dog or chicken strips by they all wanted to go back to the lab/club. When we got back to the club I see dd looking around and that is when I started asking questions and Captain Hook got brought up! I, along with the Cms, had to tell her many times that Captain Hook would not be coming by but that Belle would be coming by for Story Time. Dd was sold at the mention of Belle!

We had some time to kill before High Tea so we decided to go and visit our new friends Mr. Donald and Samson at the Cove Café. We had nice weather all week but as soon as we walked out onto deck 9, we were FREEZING!!! The sun was shining but it was very windy and there was a bite in the air. We couldn’t wait to be sipping on some hot tea soon. We sat in Cove Café for about 20 minutes thinking of things we could invent so that we could be come rich and buy our own cruise ship and just sail all the time. As you can tell ,we were a little sad our week was coming to a fast end! I know from reading here on DIS that High Tea is a try at least once but that many probably won’t book it again. I have to say that we actually did enjoy ourselves! The tea was good as were the little sandwiches. The desserts were not that great (common theme throughout the week) until she brought this little shot glass that had whip cream, I think some sponge cake and strawberries. Now that was quite yummy! We were there for about an hour with just 6 other tables total. It was very peaceful and quiet. A nice end to a great week. I will probably book High Tea again on a future cruise.

After Tea, we went and picked up the kids and went back to the room to get changed. We did want to take a few more pics with our own camera. Any pics taken with Disney’s photographers would not make it onto the cd so we opted to just walk around and take pics on our own. The pics would have turned out great on deck if it wasn’t so windy and cold! I was determined to take the pics anyway.

We ended the week with dinner at AP. Dinner was good and I enjoyed the Baked Alaska for dessert. All the servers do a little parade at the end of dinner to represent all the different countries. The kids had fun chanting “Jorge! Jorge! Jorge!” I guess the guy with the magic tricks always wins out since they didn’t chant for Salomie! LOL We said our good byes to our servers since we were going to eat breakfast in the room. Jorge will be going to the Fantasy and we told Salomie that we hope to see her on the Wonder again.

We kind of just walked around until 7:55 when we met up with Tawanda. He then led us through his secret passageway and we were in the theatre a minute or two before the doors opened. As soon as the doors opened, these kids came running down to the front row and when they saw us there, the looks on their faces were priceless! LOL They just could not figure out how we beat them down there. I got a good laugh out of that! The show was okay, not my favorite but maybe it’s because it is about us saying goodbye and I’m just not ready after 7 days to say goodbye! LOL However, this was the best show to have front row seats. The characters came down during the last song and dance and gave the kids high fives. Oh to be a child again! There is no price I wouldn’t pay to put those big smiles on their faces! It’s those big smiles, and the smiles they have had all week long, that make DCL worth every penny! To end the show with a bang, they shoot a massive amount of confetti off. You could barely see your neighbor in the front row! The kids had so much fun playing in it not only while it was still in the air but even after it had collected on the floor!

After the show, we dropped the kids back off at the club/lab as the adults went back to finish packing. The luggage you were not carrying off with you needed to be in the hall by 10:30. Here is a pic of our door on the last night before I took the magnets down. (Thanks again to all the DISigners who created these magnets!)

194-1.jpg

After I took the magnets down, I got some scissors to cut my fish extender down as I had tied it on with a zip tie. I walk outside and then the door closes. I immediately look down and realize I am not wearing my lanyard that has my room key in it. Crap! I’ve locked my self out of the room! I go to my friends room and he is taking his magnets down and he gets a good laugh when I tell him my situation. I was going to call GS from his room but his room steward was right there so he called my room steward with his wave phone and I met him back at my room where he let me back in. I finished packing and Jason comes to my door and tells me Sarah is laying down because she has a headache. He wants to go down to see Russell at the future cruise desk and he wants me to go with him because he thinks I know way too much about DCL but can actually use me. Of course there is a line so we hop into one of the chairs to wait for our turn. Doesn’t take too long and we are soon hammering our numbers. This time Jason and the family decide to book two connecting inside staterooms instead of a Cat 4. They also add a set of grandparents to the rooms. After Russell has emptied Jason’s wallet, we go back to his room and we find Sarah asleep. We quickly wake her up and we all head back up to Cove Café. As we walk onto deck 9 and is even colder than before and we are looking forward to something warm to drink. We get a hot chocolate with Frangelico. Very yummy! Again, 11:45 creeps up on us and so we say our goodbyes and thank yous. Mr. Donald gives my friend his FB email so that we can terrorize him via FB.

Jason went to the lab to get the boys while my friend and I went to get the girls from the club.
Checking them out for the last time!
925.jpg

The girls were the last ones there and they are sound asleep on a bean bag. It was so cute! My friend ran upstairs to her room to grab the camera. The CM said they sat down on the bean bag in the Captain’s Closet to watch a movie and just fell asleep. They even pulled the bean bag out all the way to the stage area and they stayed asleep. A week of Disney fun had truly worn these 4 year olds out!
934.jpg

After all the kids were accounted for, my friend and I took the girls back to the room and put them to bed while Jason took all 4 boys up to the arcade (which is open 24 hrs.) My friends had bought a $30 arcade card on the first day and never used it. My kids were given arcade cards by the concierge on Friday so they went to use them up. I probably would never waste money at the arcade. Last time we sailed my kids never even saw the arcade, probably didn’t even know it existed. LOL There is just so much to do around the ship! I had given Jason my room key just in case I fell asleep which was a good thing because I did just that. I believe they came back around 12:45. At this point the boys are wiped out and are so grateful that I am not making them brush their teeth. LOL Went to bed for the last time listening to the ocean waves as they put me to sleep.

Great trip report. Thanks. We have that same suite booked. Do the drapes work well so that it is easy to sleep in? I want my kids to sleep in because of jet lag but the youngest wakes as soon as the sun comes up.

I did not keep the drapes pulled in my room since I had the doors open most nights. I think it stayed pretty dark in the living room though.

Socababy do you have any tips or tricks for concierge ? Anything special we should ask for? Thanks this is our first ever cruise.

You are going to love cruising concierge! I'll compile a list for you of all the tings we used concierge for (even though it wasn't a whole lot!)

Have loved your trip report and photos. Thank you for taking the time. You have given us plenty to look forward to.
We met Tawanda on the wonder in October 2010. Very nice man. Lovely to hear he is still there. Hope he will take care of us again when we do MR in April. Can I ask about your lithigraph? can you describe it? I wonder if is different then ours. :flower3:

When are you sailing in April? We'll be on the Easter cruise leaving on the 8th!

The lithograph is of Goofy, Mickey and Donald playing shuffleboard on deck. This is our first lithograph. What have you done with yours?

Day 8...the saddest day of the trip…the day they kick us off!

This week went by so unbelievably fast! I haven’t cruised for less than 7 nights (will do a 5 night DD next Aug on the Dream) but I can only imagine how quick those trips go! I woke up as we were slowly pulling into the marina/port. It was about 6:30, the sun was shining, the water was so calm and all you could here was some seals barking. I sat out on the balcony just soaking up the last few hours until we were kicked off. Tawanda had told me the night before that we could stay in the suite until 9. Before the kids get up, I text my FIL and let him know that we were already pulling into port and that he should be fine picking us up between 10-10:30. I had ordered the continental breakfast to be delivered around 7:30 and the kids got up shortly before this. I am glad I had picked up some goodies the day before and put them in ziplock bags. This worked out great for us and we didn’t have to fight the crowds surrounding the restaurants.

When breakfast was delivered, I noticed my end of cruise bill that was slipped under the door. I gave it one last look over even though I had looked at it the day before too. I was shocked to see that I was charged for 2 kids club bracelets. Remember, the night before Sarah and I had gone and gotten the girls while Jason grabbed the boys. I saw the CM cut the bracelets off the sleeping girls and she gave us our receipts. It dawns on me there that Jason didn’t give me a receipt for the boys. So I call up their room and they have the same charges on theirs. Jason comes to my room and gets my bill and takes them both to GS. He said that by the time he gets the boys rounded up and to the gate that night, the boys already have their bracelets off. He never saw them cut them off and he was never handed a receipt by a CM. I don’t know if Jason had to argue the charges but thankfully they were removed from both of our bills. So ask for a receipt when you turn in the bracelet!

After breakfast all of a sudden it pops into my mind that I have to go and get our cd from Shutters! Thank goodness I remembered. The kids and I go and one desk is for floors 2-5 and the other desk was for floors 6-8. Guess which one has a long line and which one has no line?? To make matters worse, you have people lining up through Shutters trying to get into AP for their late seating breakfast. The wait is about 10 minutes. I get both our cd and my friends. We go back to the room but 9 o’clock comes fast so we exit our beautiful suite. The bummer about being in the suite is that you cannot hear what character names are being called from inside so I had no idea what had been called so far. When Tawanda had asked what character I had the day before, he asked if I wanted a different one. I am assuming Tinkerbelle may be a later one called. I told him that I was fine with what I had and I wasn’t in any hurry to get off the ship. So if you have to get off in somewhat of a hurry, ask to change nametags if possible. I go to our friends cabin and while I was waiting on them, the family staying in the 2 bdrm suite were coming out. I asked how they liked it and they said they loved it and invited me in to take a look around. It was very nice! Lots of dark wood compared to the light wood in our suite. My friends get all set to go with one exception…when their ds threw up in the lab, they had given him a change a of clothes and sent his pants and shoes to be laundered and now they are no where to be found. DCL did have them fill out paperwork to be reimbursed for what was lost. We head down to the atrium and it is filled with people. We ended up just by chance in a line of people making their way towards the exit. I have no idea of Tink had been called but they let us off anyway. It was a bit of a wait to get through customs but not bad. Luggage was easy to find and our porter helped bring it to the curb where my Ils were waiting for us.

Everyone had such a wonderful time! I survived my first trip with the kids since Dh’s passing with no family there to help out even though I had friends there to help out too. For us, DCL is absolutely the best vacation destination. I just hope DCL keeps a ship out here on the west coast so that we can continue to enjoy frequent trips without having to throw airfare into the mix. For those of you who have taken the time to read my TR, thank you! I hope it was helpful or at the least helped you get even more excited about your upcoming cruise. This report will end with a beautiful shot of the Wonder taken by my friends as they tendered off Cabo. Please feel free to ask any questions if any come up!

Thank you so much for sharing your trip with us! You make it sound so relaxing yet fun - I'm trying to talk my family into all getting together for a cruise or another trip to WDW. It's always bitter sweet for us too since my hubby never got to experience either. You are a beautiful family and can't wait to read all about your next adventure!

Thanks so much for taking the time to write your trip report. I enjoyed reading it so much, it touched me when you were thinking about your husband, as I was trying to put myself in your position and I just can't imagine it xx.

It's made me even more excited about our upcoming cruise! :)

Socobaby
we have our lithograph in the childrens bathroom. it is of Pinocchio and friends on deck at the pizza place near the pool.
sorry to say we will not be cruising the same week as you. 2 weeks later on the 22nd. Previously we have done 3 and 4 night so we are really looking forward to a whole week.
Hope you will be able to do a trip report for your next trip. :santa:

Great trip report!! Hugs to you for making the holidays special for you and your kids. You are a wonderful mom and impressed me (and a lot of others) with your strength, compassion and spirit. Your husband would be proud of you and your beautiful kids!!

Thanks for the tips. We are Consierge also and have found the pre-trip service is not good. I would also like to see what services you used on the ship. Reading these reports and seeing your pictures is super fun. Thanks for sharing.
