Our sweet calico crossed Rainbow Bridge yesterday

 Sorry for your loss. They really are part of the family.

She was absolutely beautiful, and those pics are precious.

We tried hard to figure it out but never did. First theory was teeth so we had the bad ones pulled last May. Howl returned. Then went with arthritis. Did a full course of Adequan and it didn't help. Did a full blood panel. Kidney disease wasn't really advancing much after starting her on the Prescription diet (some numbers actually improved). The only outlier was an elevated calcium level, so it's possible she might have had some sort of cancer we didn't know about. Ultimately the theory we were left with was dementia, although no way to know for sure.
Thanks for filling me in!

She was a lovely calico! You will grieve, but of course you'll remember her with laughter and smiles, too.

I’m so sorry. I know it’s very hard.

I know what you mean about beating the odds. I had a buddy that survived crushed hips as a kitten, losing an eye and distemper. I lost him many years ago and still miss him. They are family.

I'm so sorry for your loss as well. :grouphug: What a shock that must have been.

They bring so much joy, and their time is always much too short.

Thank you. They sure do. She definitely gave us all lots of love and got much in return.

Thank you. So many memories. She's in so many photos I have taken through the years. Not just as the subject of the photo, but always there in the background. Even back to my pre-digital days. Just always there. I still can't wrap my head around her being gone.
I had to say goodbye to two of my precious long term babies too over the past few years and there is such a hole in your life for a while. They were at the door when I got home, even when old sick. I miss them still.

I've shared stories of our calico here from time to time. She was about a week shy of turning 20. She's been part of our family longer than all 3 of our adult kids can remember. We got her as a kitten in 2001. She beat the odds so many times. Twice surviving dental surgery as a geriatric cat. She lived with kidney disease for more than 2 years. She seemed invincible. She was just always there.

In the end it was just age finally catching up with her. Over the weekend she started struggling with walking and seemed really confused. We helped her cross on Monday morning. We were fortunate to be able to help her when she needed it most. But dang, this has been hard.

Many thanks to those who answered my questions through the years as we helped her through the aging process. In the end it wasn't hard to know when it was finally time to let her go.

Here she is with our now college age daughter in 2001.

I'm so sorry fort he loss of your dear kitty. After 20 years, she was a family member, not just a cat. I know how you are feeling as we lost our beloved bichon of 16 years. We still miss him terribly. Hugs sent to you !
We also had to put our beloved dog, scruffy, to sleep. It was one of the hardest things I've ever done. But he was going blind, hard of hearing, had trouble walking and was getting incontinent, plus he had frequent N&V, so it was time to help him. I just know he is not suffering anymore, and your kitty is not suffering anymore either because you did the best thing for him with love.
