Our son will not eat at the Biergarten will they still charge him?

My child is one of those extremely picky eaters. If there is nothing that he likes, he just wont eat and yes he will just sit there and no he doesnt have a disorder. His Dad is very picky too although not as bad as him but he said that when he was little he was just as picky and as he got older he started liking more and more different foods. I already checked the menu and no he wont like anything there.

So is this an all you can eat buffet? And how much do they charge?

On a side note, he likes all kinds of middle eastern foods like chicken or beef kabobs, sarrfon rice, persian stews etc....... he likes steak and mashed potatoes and fried chicken and chicken nuggets. He also like BBQ ribs just to mention a few things but he is PICKY. There are certain foods he is not into yet and german food is one of them. For me and my husband, we love it. I used to live in Austria so I love all of it and my husband lived in Germany and he loves it. So we really want to eat at the Biergarten but dont want to waste money on our son since it will be hard to find something there for him :confused3

I don't know that I've ever seen the entire menu posted online. It changes frequently, and there are loads and loads of options. As OPs have said, there are cold cuts, mac and cheese, rolls, fruit, and loads of desserts. I also wouldn't be surprised if Disney catered to his every whim and brought him what he wanted if there truly wasn't anything for him to eat. And again, as OPs have said, it's a show and he's taking up a seat. It's not just about the food. If he's taking up a seat at one of the tables that could be used for someone else, then yes, you will be charged.
Perhaps if he really is that picky, you're best to just grab a quick bite at Sommerfest and skip Biergarten. Walk him over to the good 'ol America pavilion for chicken nuggets. I can't imagine any of you would enjoy it much if he just sat there without anything for an hour or so....

My 4 year old is SUPER picky...won't eat a whole lot. We know that going into various restaurants and will at times pick a restaurant where we order from the menu to save ourselves being charged.

At Disney, we don't worry about it. We know we HAVE TO PAY because he is taking up a seat...and if we want to eat there badly enough, then we suck it up and pay for him to just sit there. If you want to eat there, you will have to pay for him or leave him at one of the deluxe hotels babysitting places! Look at it like this...it isn't "wasting" money, it is a chance for you and your husband to enjoy the food while you pay for your son to enjoy the show!

I might consider going to Restaurant Marrakesh instead. They have kabobs etc. Biergarten is all you can eat, but I don't know/remember the prices for kids.
I don't blame you for wanting to eat at Biergarten...we love it. It will come down whether you want to pay for him to sit there and not eat, or maybe go somewhere that he will.

You are going to have to make a choice-don't go because you don't want to pay for your son or go anyway and spend the money for your son even though he may not each much.

I know it's not the norm, but once someone in the party I was dining with at Hollywood and Vine for the Fantasmic package because he wasn't feeling well and didn't want to eat. Even after eating some macaroni our server still didn't charge us for him.

We used to go to Beirgarten every trip until my DD's became tweens and we started to charge them as adults. I knew it going in but still $92 for them to eat a lunch of Mac and Cheese and one dessert?

If this is a once in a lifetime trip, do it, the show is awesome.

Much easier to stomach the charge for tween types if you are on a dining plan. You already paid the bill before you even went on vacation. Will the kids "eat their worth" while on the meal plan? Nope. But at least I am done worrying about it as the bill is already paid.

That is why we don't do DDP. OOP is a much better deal, especially if you don't like dessert. I hate waiting for it and it is very hard for whatever reason for the server to give you your check without getting dessert. They are very insistent to bring you the darn thing we don't eat it.

Do you think your son is picky because his dad is picky? Maybe he can follow his dad's lead and try to enjoy German food :goodvibes. I think your biggest mistake was sharing the menu with him and allowing him the idea that he had a veto because of his food preferences. It's up to you to decide if you're going to allow your picky 3rd grader dictate where you eat.

Take him in, if he doesn't eat then he doesn't eat, don't make a big deal of it either way, just make sure everyone has a good time whether they eat or not. Take a couple of his favourite snacks in just in case. Perhaps let him know before you go in (at 8 years old he is old enough) not to complain constantly that there is nothing he wants to eat, you know that and it's not just about him, chill out, he may just decide to try something all by himself. The worst thing would be to cancel or to cajole him into trying stuff.

I have any extremely picky eater myself and he would rather do without than eat something he doesn't like. We occasionally visit restaurants where he doesn't eat because he has 3 other siblings who are very adventurous eater. If it's off the menu, we feed him before hand and he orders a drink. I have never found a buffet that didn't have something he would eat. Crackers, roll, fruit, dessert. Do I enjoy paying $20 for crackers or ice cream? No but we do it because the rest of our family enjoys the restaurant. Is the best choice for dinner? No but it is one meal. If he is still hungry we feed him afterwards.

Lunch for a kid is $14.90
Dinner is $19.16 or $21.29 depending on when you're going.

I also have very picky children (and dh). When we go there at dh's request, the kid's eat dessert (AYCE). We especially like the fruit cordial. The pretzel rolls are gross, but my one ds will eat a few. I like some of the food there, but not enough to go if it wasn't my dh's favorite. They do not have chicken nuggets there. If they have pizza or mac n cheese, my kids didn't like it there.

We ate at Biergarten last week with our 9 and 12 year old girls (and another family that has 11 and 15 year old girls) for the first time. My wife had a bad experience there as a child, so it took her a while to agree to go back with the rest of us. I was shocked at how much our kids all loved it. One even said to her, "Mom, I can't believe you deprived us of this place for all these years - this is awesome!" To be honest, I was pretty shocked at how much they enjoyed it, but they all went back for seconds and then again for dessert(s). In short, there were quite a few options that they thoroughly loved, and I'm pretty sure they didn't even touch the true "German" food (sausages, kraut, etc.). I would agree with those who are suggesting that maybe you pack a decent snack with you, just in case it doesn't go well, but give it a shot. There is really something on that buffet for everybody, whether "German" or not - mac and cheese, pot roast, schnitzel (easily faked as a chicken tender if you are inclined to fudge the truth a bit with your kids!), pretzel bread, chocolate chip cookies and more.

We eat middle eastern food all the time so going to Marrakesh would not be a treat for any of us. But getting to eat German food would be different and something we havent done in years and miss. I guess we are just going to have to take him there and hope he is in the mood to try something new

My son was never shown the menu nor does he have a clue about Biergarten and the reason why he is picky is not the issue here nor did I come here to get parenting advice. My DH lost his uber pickyness when he was in the Air Force and was stationed overseas. My son has been pciky since he was very little. But I am the complete opposite so he picked up a little of both of us which is why he eats all kinds of exotic middle eastern food like persian yogurt drinks, stews kabobs etc.... but he is still picky about the specific things he likes and is reluctant to try something new. He is like many kids I have met who like what they like and making them try something new is hard. They tend to grow out of it so it's not really an issue. But right now, I'm just trying to plan our trip and our dining ......it's as simple as that. Not really trying to have my kid analyzed:rolleyes1

This is probably what we will do. I have a feeling that if he take him there and he sees other kids eating and sees a selection he will give it a try.
