Our Seemingly Silly Semi-Illogical Four Day Whirlwind Trip

Kay, my favorite (and only) sister!

I totally missed the tea episode among work issues!

Loved it! Love tea. Tea reminds me of Moo too, LOL. You are a fabulous writer!

I am almost caught up with the comments from that installment, so I have to send a DING DING DING now before moving onto the latest one. So as not to deprive you of you DING dues!

Now remember to come by the Miker board!

I dread passing the Insect-Head cashier again, but the mug is an investment and we don’t want to be bad investors, so we need a few more refills before we leave.

Doesn't this cashier ever have a day off to go home to her hive??

It’s such a comfort to look dumb when someone looks dumb with you.

So true!!!

Sage Advice # 1: “Who cares if someone looks at you funny. In a minute they’ll forget all about you.” This was good advice until the advent of the digital camera; now I’m not so sure. With my luck, someone’s vacation pictures will immortalize me in some ridiculous pose. Then I’ll have to fall back on Sage Advice # 2: “Don’t worry, no one knows you here.”

What about Sage Advice # 3: Be prepared to end up in someone's trip report!

After they take our picture . . . we smile.

:goodvibes :goodvibes Good for you! We didn't buy our picture either.

Inside, people direct everyone to their assigned tables and we find ours, table 21, slightly left of center and one back from the stage.

Sounds like you had a very good location for your table! We were right behind the piano player. How far in advance did you make your reservations? I'm glad we got to see the HDDR before they implemented the new seating tiers they have now.

Did you notice I mastered the art of the multiple quote?! Thanks for the great instructions!!

Kay I am a Tea loving water slide trying kinda girl too!

Loverly photos. Gotta run, time to dye some eggs! If I take too long getting to the kitchen the kids (or worse Mr Silly) might try to set up the dye themselves.

Great installment - it pains me that you stop right before HDDR!!! It is a favorite of mine, and I've been wondering for a while what you and Lowell will think of it. I don't consider it an every trip activity, but every 3 years works. Altho' come to think of it, I saw it last year... and 2004... but before that, I was still a teenager! So 20 years between shows! Oh, well... can't wait for your take on it!

;)

Kay love the pictures. Guess you didn't take you shoes off while walking the grounds. :rotfl2:

Better be careful and have Lowell look out for that slide picture on Ebay. They sell anything on there don't they....

Can't wait to hear the next part never been to that either. I am sure it was great fun. How could it not with the two of you.

I may be over fifty but I still like waterslides. So sue me. I will probably be that elderly person I described in my pool-hopper spoof that shuffles along with a walker to the top of the waterslide and wants to go down it.

Head first.

Backwards.

Ten times.

Maybe they can develop a waterslide “ski lift” so elderly sliders don’t need to walk to the top every time. That would also eliminate the problem of abandoning our walkers at the top, or worse, people trying to take them along on the slide and getting them jammed in the tunnel. One of those three prong canes might work reasonably well in lieu of a walker. They’re small enough to fit through the slide and could do double duty as a flotation noodle after splash down.

Kay,

I'm with you on the water slide. Well, maybe not headfirst, backwards, but I still love me some water slide action and I ain't 10 anymore. I'm having fun imagining a funoodle wrapped around a cane. At least I know I won't have to quit using the water slide when I need that cane.

Marie

Despite the utter pointlessness, we humor these people and pose for our photo, but I know we’re wearing expressions like someone just served us pork jerky with cucumbers.

After they take our picture . . . we smile. .

:rotfl2: I loved this, Kay.

Once again good luck favors us, adding to our false sense of security that nothing can go wrong during this trip and tarnish our happiness.

TO BE CONTINUED. . . .

Oh, no, something went wrong for the Lucky crew? Say it ain't so!

Great installment, Kay. I made the mistake of watching the geyser on a windy day while wearing regular clothes. NOT my brightest moment.

Wonderful as always, Kay! What a lovely walk along the Fort Wilderness path and then to the tea and back to the pool. I'm looking at the beautiful victorian pictures and the bright blue sky and blue shiny waters, relaxing with the rays of the sun beating down on me and what does DH do??? He walks by and says "It's snowing outside!" That turkey!!!

The next time I'm at the pool with a slide I'll think of you and just be silly and just do it!! I know I want to, oh geez I want to, and then.....I chicken out again. I guess I'm afraid I'll get my hair wet or get water up my nose or something!! :rotfl2: Anyway, I'll have to remember that at "almost 50" it really isn't taboo!

I'm looking forward to the Hoop-dee-do!

Linda

Oh No! Did you like or NOT like Whoopdeedoo?

I can't tell. Or did you just not like getting your picture taken this time?

We pool hop all the time. We have a set of each of the resort mugs we bought on ebay and we stay off site. Big wup. ;)

I love water slides too. But not the enema ones. Can we say enema here?

Nor do I like the perma-wedgie ones. The one you went on sounds great!

Kay, I cant wait to hear your take on the dee doo!!!

Oh my googness, Kay - this episode was incredible! :yay: It was fun to hear your take on trying the slide at Wilderness Lodge, since I was too shy and too chicken to use it.

I have been the invisible person trying to catch the (non-full) bus driver's attention before, so I felt a smidgen of sympathy for the invisible/inaudible family that missed the boat. Of course that Mom's tantrum was uncalled for . . .

"Let's see how ticked off I can make this lame, tired lady who thought whe could leave Epcot without an interminable wait (bwa-ha-ha-haaaaaa!!!). Take THAT for staying at a Value Resort!" was what I envisioned the bus driver gleefully thinking as he drove off and left me to wait until both resorts on either side had had two buses come and go.

 Hello and thanks for posting!

You've got me thinking about trifle so much I just might offer to make it and take to the sis-in-laws for Easter :)

Kay - those are amaaaaaaazing pictures!

Maybe they should start having "adult slide" time like they do in the community pools when only adults are allowed to swim. Perhaps more of us older whipper snappers would be lured out of our chairs. I'd be up there with you but I would have talked you into going more than once.

"false sense of security" - Oh no....what could possibly happen to dear sweet Kay and Lowell?

:wave2: Suzflee: Oh boy, let me know if you made the yummy chocolate trifle.

I would love to see adult waterslide time. It would be so much fun to see how many of us geezers would literally “take the plunge” if a whole bunch of other adults were going, too.

As for my foreshadowing of doom, I have to give you something to fret about since you no longer have the tweed bag mystery to provide suspense.

Kay, I have been slacking and just read your last 3 installments. The Ghetto was a riot, as was your high heels. Too funny. Tea was wonderful. Your manners were just fine in my book. No one throwing themselves on the floor in a tantrum always sounds good to me. The trifle looks to die for. I'm making a trifle for Easter, and can't wait for it now. I always make a little bowl for me while preparing.

I've always wanted to do hoop de doo, and can't wait for your review. thanks.

:wave2: mikamah: Another Easter trifle? How come the only people I know who eat trifle are here on the DIS? I need some new friends or family. People who know how to make trifle! I’m glad you liked the last few episodes and I hope my account of Hoop-De-Doo will be a Hoop-De-Doozie!

Hi Kay!

Loved your review of afternoon tea, but I must say that Lowell's selection makes my intestinal tract cringe. I'll stick with the tea sandwiches and scones...pinky elevating of its own accord while I type.

:wave2: oybolshoi: I guess the commercial “Try it you’ll like it,” may be appropriate here. I was surprised that he ordered the pates, and even more surprised that they tasted pretty good. Not as good as scones or trifle, but carbohydrates of all kinds have always been my weakness.

I've just shut my eyes, enjoyed the sun streaming through the window onto my computer and I was actually there with you....THANK YOU!!!:cloud9:

:wave2: 2ScottishPrincesses: That’s so nice to hear. I need the virtual vacation, too, because it is actually snowing here today on the 7th of April! Yikes!

Kay, my favorite (and only) sister!

I totally missed the tea episode among work issues!

I am almost caught up with the comments from that installment, so I have to send a DING DING DING now before moving onto the latest one. So as not to deprive you of you DING dues!

:wave2: Backstage_Gal: I couldn’t have a nicer virtual sister. Alas, you’re about as far from my home as my real sister. (sigh). I’m glad to hear the Tea episode brought back memories of the nice time you had at Tea with Minnie_Moo. I hope you like the next episode. When you worked at the Lodge, did you ever go down the slide?

Doesn't this cashier ever have a day off to go home to her hive??

What about Sage Advice # 3: Be prepared to end up in someone's trip report!

:wave2: Liz: Hurray! You are a multi-quoting maniac now! I love it! And I loved your quote, “Doesn't this cashier ever have a day off to go home to her hive??”

I made the reservation three or four months in advance. I am not exactly sure, but I know it was no where near the recommended six months. I was glad too we got in on the end of the old price structure, otherwise sitting on the main floor would have cost extra. I felt sorry for the people up in the balconies, especially the ones who had their backs to the stage.

Kay I am a Tea loving water slide trying kinda girl too!

Loverly photos. Gotta run, time to dye some eggs! If I take too long getting to the kitchen the kids (or worse Mr Silly) might try to set up the dye themselves.

:wave2: HaleyB: Welcome to water sliders Anonymous. We meet the second Tuesday of each month. And we have tea and scones at our meetings.

:wave2: tiggerbell: Sorry for the suspense, but this episode was already pretty long, and I KNOW you don’t want me to whip through my Review of the Revue!

And speaking of already pretty long. I'm going to stop here and catch the rest of your comments later before this turns into a novela in itself.

The night we went there was nobody in the balcony at all! Maybe since it was the late show that started about 9:00 not as many people go to that one. Can't wait to hear your take on it!

DING, DING DING!!! Hope I didnt wake you up, sis!

You are the best!!!!!!! :rotfl:

I need the lift!

Oh oh oh, I want to join the Tuesday waterslide club! May I please? And I love scones and trifle! I haven't been in a bathing suit in at least 10 years, LOL.

Would you be surprised to know I never have been to the Hoop? Even won a free dinner for there once, the 9:30 show though, too lazy to drive out there that late.

And sadly, waterslide privelidges do NOT come with working there... ( know I spelled this wrong, but WTH!, too lazy to look it up).

Happy Easter! :flower3:

Hi, Friends/Readers/Barnacles!

Kay love the pictures. Can't wait to hear the next part; never been to that either. I am sure it was great fun. How could it not with the two of you.

:wave2: NAB: You’ve never been to Hoop-De-Doozie? Stay tuned and you’ll hear all about it. I have lots of pictures, too.

:wave2: mmeb144: It sounds like you’re another candidate for Water Sliders Anonymous. Our membership is growing. Maybe we shouldn’t try to fight the addiction, just give in and enjoy it.

Oh, no, something went wrong for the Lucky crew? Say it ain't so!

Great installment, Kay. I made the mistake of watching the geyser on a windy day while wearing regular clothes. NOT my brightest moment.

:wave2: NMAmy: I guess few trips are 100% perfect. Even for the Lucky Fourteens.

Getting sprayed by the geyser is good practice for coming to visit Niagara Falls. We live about an hour from there. You will get wet!

Wonderful as always, Kay! What a lovely walk along the Fort Wilderness path and then to the tea and back to the pool. :wave2: blossombrd: Sorry your DH ruined your mini-vacation. I sympathize. It’s been snowing here the last few days and I’m trying to ignore it. Someone please inform Mother Nature, this is April.

It’s amazing how many people say they love the slides but are afraid they’re too old to go. I think we really need a support group. We have to stick together and “just do it.” Never mind your hair, and hold your nose if you have to. Slides are fun. Remember that by going down the slide you may give other adults the courage to try it themselves. It only takes one brave person to break the ice and before you know it you’ll find a line of adults right behind you!

Oh No! Did you like or NOT like Whoopdeedoo?

I can't tell. Or did you just not like getting your picture taken this time?

Kay, I cant wait to hear your take on the dee doo!!!

:wave2: UtahMama aka The Ostrich :rotfl2: : So far all I have said is that we don’t like buying over–priced photos. I’ll have a blow by blow account for you in the next episode. The good, the bad, and the ugly, as the saying goes. Gee, I can hardly wait to see how the episode comes out. Hmmm. I hope it’s not dull and boring after all this built-up anticipation!

Oh my googness, Kay - this episode was incredible! :yay: It was fun to hear your take on trying the slide at Wilderness Lodge, since I was too shy and too chicken to use it.

:wave2: Minnie_Moo: I’m glad you enjoyed this episode, and you are helping to prove my point that there are a huge number of frustrated water-slider wannabes out there. So I’ll repeat what I said before. Do it next time! You may give someone else who’s dying to go the courage to try it. At very least you know that the adults who are staring at you aren’t staring because they think you’re silly, they’re staring because they’re ENVIOUS! They are thinking, “You GO, girl!”

The night we went there was nobody in the balcony at all! Maybe since it was the late show that started about 9:00 not as many people go to that one. Can't wait to hear your take on it!

:wave2: Liz: I can hardly imagine a show being so poorly attended that no one was in the upper level. Wow. And think how weird it will be with the new price structure. There might be 50 people there instead of 300 some night and 40 will be in the balcony and 10 will be on the first floor. How silly not to let everyone sit on the first floor near the stage. I hope they have “free upgrades.”
DING, DING DING!!! Hope I didn’t wake you up, sis! You are the best!!!!!!! :rotfl:

I need the waterslide lift!

:wave2: Backstage_Gal. Yes, you may be a charter member of the Water Side Club. I have decided we won’t meet to fight the addiction, we will meet to encourage our membership to get up out of their lounge chairs and storm the slide! Why haven’t you been in a swimsuit for years? I’ve seen your picture. You have no reason to be afraid of being seen in a swimsuit. It’s time for you to have a few “firsts.” As a Disney employee it’s your duty to try everything at least once. You need to get on a water slide and go see HDDR.

Ditch Mexico, and come on down, I'll take vacation 30 miles from my house! Give me enogh time to go bathing suit shopping though! You know, staying or vacaton there is different than drving to work there. Although many people enjoy the priveledges. Lately I have started thinking about staying for a few days on vacation there though. Heck, I could go ride the busses even!

For me it is not just the fear of going down the slide but the fear of no longer being able to go down the slide gracefully. Whats that saying.... a bull in a china shop. Only it is more like a.....I don't know. Use your imagination.

Well, I go off on Spring Break and come back to find you've all gone on a tour, tea and slide ride! How much fun!! Kay, I've had a blast just reading your last episodes--I felt I was there with you, too. Glad to hear someone else has trouble with cutie-patootie shoes, too. I see people swishing right along in them lookin' all fabulous and I just can't understand how they do it!

Lookin' forward to the Hooptie-Doo Review!

OMG - I have been lurking and reading this (all 50!!!! pages of it) over the last 3 days. This is so wonderful, Kay, and you are truly an amazingly talented writer.

We are taking our DD5 for her first ever Disney trip in 10 days and this report is just so much fun! I am getting so excited and anxious to see and do everything Disney.

Your pictures are amazing and I loved exploring Wilderness Lodge with you - especially since we are staying at Contemporary and may not have time to make it over to WL to look around. But now, thanks to you, I feel like I have been there and won't be disappointed if I can't poke around WL myself.

Thanks also for the tips - need first row for Soarin; request turn down service; go to Turtle Talk with Crush; etc. I have written them all down and they will go on our "not to miss" list with us to Disney.

I have to say, though, the brilliance of the Disney Grande Ghetto resort was the BEST! You described it with such detail and gusto...I found myself wishing it were true, so that I could stay there!! (not sure what thay says about me....)

Anyway, please do keep it coming. I'm sure you are tired and burnt out by all this - but you simply must finish this before I go to Disney. You have 10 days;)

Kay, I've been enjoying your reports. Your pictures are beautiful. I'm a value resort girl myself - by pocketbook, not choice and I love seeing the pictures of the deluxe resorts. I did stay at the Boardwalk once and thought it was beautiful. I look forward to hearing about the Hoop-Dee-Do. I only saw it once, about 10 years ago and had mixed feelings about it. I have been debating trying it with my husband and kids. Keep up the good work.:thumbsup2
