hrh disney queen I have to agree about the 8 year olds being way too young. I am sure that is what the cops were called on. Your DH is a responsible adult and i'm sure you won't have any probs. My neighbor is a cop and he tells me they get tons of complaints on the 4th of July about fireworks being let off but he says they just ignore most of them due to cranky people just not wanting to have fun. It does only come once a year. Have fun.
Teresa

I think you guys are right, it probably was the kid's age. DH went over to talk to gramma and she said that the cop didn't elaborate, just shook his head "no" when he saw DNB8(Doggone Neighbor Boy-8). ITA, thanks for backing me up about him being too young...you wouldn't believe what goes on with him...his parents let him build fires in the street using papers, pine needles (form other people's landscaping!!) plastic containers-using a butane lighter!! Unattended.. :sad2: He and some other kids had a 2 foot flame going once, with his DSis3 running around the fire with a long cotton skirt on...I called his mom, she finally came out and said she knew they were doing it!!!!! My problem is explaining to my kids that they are too young-DS8 is only a few months younger that the troublemaker...I am scared to death that someone is going to catch on fire...and why is it necessary to allow them to play with fire, anyway??? :confused3 (did I also mention that she leaves him home alone for hours while she goes to the gym or shop or whatever....)

Anywho, DNB8 came home just as the real fireworks were getting underway, took over a couple of other kids fireworks they had brought out...(can you tell that I don't like this kid??? He is also very big for his age, not very intelligent, and a bully...) anyway, what I thought would take 1/2 hour tops, ended up taking well over an hour...No injuries, surprisingly so..DH did most of the lighting, but since DNB8's mom was out there, too, he lit off quite a few...some right next to other people...The cops never came by, there were fireworks going off everywhere in town.....

Thanks for letting me vent...this kid really gets on my nerves, and especially his parents' casual attitudes...I am labeled the "Barney Fife" of the cul de sac by her (joking-I actually like her a lot) but I would feel terrible if that beautiful little girl got burned because of the stupid antics of her brother...

We had a great 4th celebration, hope y'all did the same!!

I do not blame you one bit. Some people do not deserve to be parents. I wish people would realize what a blessing it is to be able to have a child. Too many people out there can not. I am so picky also about who my son is aloud to play with. I usually only let him play with his hockey or baseball friends. Neighborhood kids are not into any activities and they just roam the streets. My persoal belief is a child in a structured activity tends to stray away from trouble as opposed to one who is not. This is not necessary in all cases but in most. I am in my sons business we have a very open relationship. My neighbor and I were talking and she won't even let her 14 year old son light a firework. You can let your son know that. I enjoy this tred because everyone is friendly and very welcome to newbies. Vent with me anytime you want. At this time this is my only sanity. Teresa

Enjoy your big day, nsalz. I just turned 14 myself (birthday dyslexia, remember people!!??) and it was exactly the same as when I turned 04. After a certain age, you are allowed to enjoy your birthday but the numbers don't count anymore.

LOL :goodvibes Tha'ts great to hear...I am officially not counting anymore...

I enjoyed my fireworks last night but had some sad news upon returning home. My best friend's mom, who was like a second mom to me, passed away following surgery to treat cancer. She came out of the surgery ok on Sunday, but then had some complications that took her downhill very quickly. So, I will be gone most of the weekend for the services and to be supportive of my BF, who is the only sister I have ever had. My DS and my BF's DS are also BFs and have been looking forward for months to this big concert festival they're going to on Friday, and now this is going to put a huge damper on it as the services for BFDS grandma are on Saturday morning.

Oh yes, I am in my kid's business, too. I don't care, I am always going to be like that. Today in a brief moment of generosity, (very brief) DNB8 gave DS8 and DS6 a bunch of FIRECRACKERS!!! and sparklers...luckily, my kids are terrible at hiding things, and after I got the few obvious ones away from DS6(he's such a pushover), I finally got DS8 to admit/turn over the ones he got...DS6 also turned him in for looking for matches (DH used to collect matchbooks..) in DH's studio/office. I finally got the truth out of him that he was doing that, but you know little boys-they are fascinated with fire and anything to do with it...So now I have to keep reminding him how dangerous it is, and nononononono you cannot evereverevereverever have matches or fire-at least when I'm not around.. I tell him that when he's 18, he can use matches.. ;) He has already started a collection of things he will set on fire when he turns 18.. :rotfl: :rotfl:

DNB8 is the kind of kid who likes to talk another kid into doing something just to see him get into trouble..my kids are so gullible, they have fallen for it a couple of times..

I won't say I'm the best mother, I'm still learning, I make a lot of mistakes. But I must say that I scratch my head on a daily basis at what goes on across the street. They bought the DD4 a HUGE trampoline for her birthday a month ago, and still haven't put the net up around it. DNB8 likes to try to bounce the little kids around when he gets on it...DS8 fell off once already (not DNB8's fault this time..) Mine are no longer allowed on it. (I know I shouldn't have let them get on at all) One day a few weeks ago, I walked into their backyard and saw DS8, DS6, little sis 4, all crouched around a FIRE in their playground with DNB8 holding a butane lighter... :scared1: I yelled my kids names out and yelled to GET AWAY FROM THE FIRE!!!!! The mom came down from the deck and said..."I was watching them.." I was so astounded and careful not to say anything really snotty-all I could think of was,"I don't want them to think it's OK!" After all the times I have said something about not wanting my kids to be near these fires and there she is condoning it......

Well, I should go do something productive. I don't want to be a hijacker or thread killer...I'm sure this is boring stuff to the others out there on this thread...Sorry guys!!

At 40, I started counting backwards...so by the time I reach 80, I will be 0.

Happy Birthday nsalz!!

The interesting thing about our "clique" is that we are not exclusive. Sure, the same people mostly post over and over here, address each other by name, and confuse new posters, but we also never forget that our thread is on the "Welcome to the DIS" board, and we *are* welcoming. No one is ever ignored unless they just immediately express an unwillingness to know or care about the general topic of the thread (LGMHPC!!!) and we have a lot of young (low post count) members who come to feel like old pros here. Whereas we do kind of have our own language on this thread, I don't think we use it to alienate newcomers or make them feel as if they can't come into the fold.

You know, in terms of what the thread is mostly about (sure, there's a lot of chit chat, but we always come back to LGMHPC  ) and our language and abbreviations, perhaps we should have a FAQ that could be pointed to when people come along wanting to know what the discussion is about and what the heck we're saying when we type, for instance, "That HD CM caught me serpentining toward the LGMHPC, but I distracted him, swiped 22 anyway, got out to the parking lot to take inventory, and avoided DISjail" :lmao: We used to be able to say "Go back and read the thread"
readthis.gif
, but now that we're about 150 pages into it, that's getting be be a little unreasonable.

Thanks, that's nice. :) I know we all deal with tragedy and sad times and it's always hard to know what to say. I am dealing right now with what to say to BF's dad who is going to be lost without his wife. "My condolences" sounds completely stupid at a time like this. I know that, like everyone does, we're going to have to move on and continue with our lives. But thanks so much for your thoughts...and thanks to everyone who will be thinking the same things. I don't want this to turn into "sad thread" so I will just assume you all love me and are thinking of us right now. lol :grouphug:
