We are in a hotel tonight and dealing with insurance on repairs.

Will not be able to make it to Fort as soon as planned. Had to call Disney and delay our check-in.

We are okay, we were not in the RV when is was hit. Cats were so they got a vet check and are OKAY.

Bunk area of the RV is damaged as is our wheelchair lift.

Will have to call Disney back after repair shop gives their say on how long repairs will take.

oh no, what a horrible start to a vacation. Thank goodness everyone's ok (including your little kitties, of course)....wishing you a better trip from here on!

Thank you guys. Now we are just waiting to find out how fast they can repair our RV.

Looking at accessable rentals just in case.

Sorrear of your misfortune I hope thing improve for you soon and get to save your vacation.

WOW, that totally sucks !
Sure glad ya'll are okay.(and kitties too)
So how far did ya'll make it ? And tell us the story, popcorn:: (soon as ya feel up to it)

After getting ready to get on the road this morning we decided to take a last look around the campground and enjoy the green. DSs service dog needed a potty walk before we got on the road.

As we are heading back to our campsite we hear a crash. We are still to far from our site to see that it was our RV that was hit. As we got closer we saw it was ours that was hit. Backend of our RV is smashed along with damage also to the last 10 feet of the right side which is where our wheelchair lift is located.

Campground called Police because of the extent of the damage. Police took pictures of the damage and gave us a case number for the insurance. We got insurance info from the couple in the RV that hit ours(We talked with both ours and theirs along with our trip insurance). Police and campground staff helped tape tarps over the damaged area so DH could drive it to the repair shop.Police helped carry our kids and wheelchairs onto our RV since our lift was damaged. From the repair shore they also gave us a ride to a motel.

Called to change our arrival at Disney pushing it back a day for now.

WOW! That's terrible. Glad to hear everone is ok.

If it delays your trip for more than a day, I'd probably contact the insurance company to see if they would pay the difference to get you into a cabin or resort until the RV is fixed. If it weren't for the W/C lift, it sounds like you could make do with the tarp until you finished your trip, but the lift is a deal breaker.

Don't know if the insurance would go for the deal, but I bet after mentioning W/C, service animal, ruined Disney trip... they might be willing to cover it.

Good luck getting things fixed and back on the road.

In talking with our trip insurance, we discussed what to do it they can not get RV fixed fast.

We are a large family so finding a rental that will sleep us and that is wheelchair accessable we have not found. We are still a two day drive from Disney. We did not do todays driving and do not know if we can get on the road tomarrow.

Do the cabins allow cats? I know there is a pet boarding center at Fort. Boss told me I can let the cats stay with her. She lives in Orlando.

Our little guy trailer was not hooked to our RV at the time because it was on a second campsite so we do have our storage tent.

Oh no, totally stinks. I sure hope you can salvage most of this trip. Hopefully the insurance and repair shop move like lightning. Here is some pixiedust: for you and the kitties. We had a problem with our RV once and they put us up at Animal Kingdom Lodge, don't be afraid to ask, all they can say is no. But, you might get a yes to a cabin or a couple value rooms.

So sorry to hear about the accident. A little pixiedust: for a better trip!

I am so sorry for your misfortune. I am glad nobody was in your RV except for the cats as we know they have nine lives.;)

I agree with the previous posters in suggesting you call the Fort and see if an accessible cabin is available. The other RV's insurance should cover everything required to allow you continue your vacation as planned as closely as possible. They should just be thankful too that no one was hurt. Can you travel the rest of the way with a rented vehicle and your undamaged trailer?

Another suggestion is not to rush your repairs. I know I would be tempted to just try and get my RV to the point my family could continue our trip. Remember though, it will be harder to get the insurance to pay for further repairs once you accept it back. I wouldn't take any chances especially with the lift. You may want to check with where you purchased it from and/or the installer, they may say replacement rather than repair might be required.

I know we all wish there was something we could do to help but I don't think my pop-up would help too much.

How did this happen?

The RV that hit us was driven by an alzheimers pt. His wife just wanted to take him camping one last time before he goes into a nursing home. She was outside and he decided he could still drive. They are Okay!

Now if they can not fix RV in time, my boss has agreed to ship our shuttle that we shipped from home to Orlando to us. We can tow the trailer to get most of our stuff down with us. The rest we can ship.We would then leave RV till it is repaired.

We are looking into which hotels will fit us if we have to go that route.Finding a space that can handle nine power chairs.......

Thank you for the pixie dust and support. Thank you for letting me vent.
:grouphug:
now off to up-date my pre-trip report

I feel like I've missed the first half hour of a movie. I caught that you have young twins and an autistic son, but haven't figured out the nine power chairs. Is your pre-trip report on line somewhere? This saga sounds a lot more interesting than reality t.v. Have you considered selling your story to Disney?

How large is your motorhome that it accommodate so many people (and cats and a dog?)

Hope you don't consider me to be nosy, o.k. maybe I am, but I'm trying to catch up on the details here.

Our RV is a 45 footer but not an off the shelf type. DH and I rebuilt it to fit our needs basically it is a shell with tie-downs and foldoff the wall muffey beds. Yep, we have a pre trip report on the boards.I only have a film camra with me on the trip so no pics till I get film developed.Plan to get film developed while at WDW so you guys will get pics then.

Both DH and I are power chair users. I do not mind questions.

My heart go out to you and to the other family involved. My mother is in the advanced stages of Alheimers so I understand how this happened. I am glad no one is hurt. That is the most important thing. I'm sure it is not the vacation you planned won't be forgotten.
