Three more days until we leave for Fort Wilderness. It has been almost 2 years since we were there and we are getting excited for our return. For the past week we have been prepping the RV - clothes, food and of course some Christmas decorations and my Mickey post light. We will be leaving home Friday, December 5th for the 2.5 hour trip from NE Florida.

We have been going to Disney in early December since 2006 to celebate our anniversary and just enjoy the decorations and the spirt of the season. Most of our trips were to Disney resorts until we bought our first camper in 2011 and changed to staying at The Fort and Loved It!! Unfortunitely in 2013 we sold our 5th wheel and we found ourselves back at a Disney resort for our October 2013 trip. In January 2014 we realized how much we missed staying at Fort Wilderness and decided to look for a used RV. Being positive with getting a RV in time, back in February I booked our upcoming December 5-11 trip. In March we found a 'new to us' used RV, so that meant I wouldn't have to cancel our December reservations.

I have a question concerning the cable modems ..... on past trips I always got them at the Reception Outpost. Is that the only place that has them or can they be picked up at either the Meadows or Settlement Trading Posts?
We are excited to return to Fort Wilderness.

Oh, I heard that all the squirrels left the Fort in late November for Mississippi and that I may have to fight for a rocker chair on the porch now that there are only 2 left. :rotfl2:

The modems are at the Meadow Trading Post. Have fun and a safe drive.

Thank you Denise. That is a lot closer than riding my bike up to the Registration area off the overflow parking lot.

Trip prep continues ..... aired up the tires on the RV, car and our bikes this morning while it was still cool out, loaded refrigerator/freezer food...... and more 'snacks' popcorn:: . Now I just need to get thru my appointment tomorrow (4th) with my orthopedic surgeon to get my knee replacement surgeries (both) scheduled for right after the holidays. Hoping for a pain free December 2015 trip.

Two more days til we hit the road :hourglass :drive: ...... in my heart and mind I'm excited as a little kid and that by years I'm not. :santa:

. . . Oh, I heard that all the squirrels left the Fort in late November for Mississippi . . .

1) It is a good rumor, but it is untrue.
2) The squirrels do not leave for MS in the winter.
3) We put spotted Bermuda Shorts on them and let them blend in with the guests and other Snow Birds.
4) Never saw a squirrel in polka-dot shorts running around at The Fort?
5) They blend in pretty darn well, don't they ?!?!

:cool1:

Rusty ..... Thank you for clearing up the rumor of the squirrels. :thumbsup2

And you are right, they really do blend in with the surroundings.

PS Congratulations

Russ,

I like your confidence (reserving the site before you got the camper). :cool2:

How long will you be there?

We will arrive Friday (12/5) and leave to return home on 12/11.

Making this reservation back in Feb was positive motivation. As I said we really missed being at Fort Wilderness and want to get back.

I did the same thing by booking our February 2015 trip - positive motivation - knowing I will probably be getting both my knees replaced in early January, the Feb trip is my motivation to push rehab so I can make the trip. I told my DW that as long as I get released to drive, we will make the trip. I see no better place to continue my rehab than The Fort. Great place to walk (or ride a bike hopefully) as rehab and great people all around ......... campers  .

I would have to agree that walking around Fort Wilderness beats just about every neighborhood in the country. Hope you have a nice smooth drive :)
