Our Reservation has been cancelled

FWIW, I just ran your dates through the Marriott website and there is plenty of availability around Disney at that time. Having just been down there in September and scoped out the off-site hotels due to being stranded by Hurricane Frances. The hotel we had reservations at was in VERY close proximity to Downtown Disney (though on the other side of the Interstate). It is available for $64 per night during your dates (Fairfield in at the Marriott Village). So, I think you do have options. And I would point out that you should be able to rent your points and get more than enough money to pay for your hotel if you are patient and creative.

My information came from Member Services earlier today. I was told November 20th

I have a reservation from 8th November so just called a few minutes ago and was told that this is still the date for the VB scheduled re-opening. I do hope so.

I received the same information from Member Services just a few minutes ago....a November 8th re-opening.

Let's keep our fingers crossed...not only for the vacationers, but for the unemployed cast members as well. I would hate to go back to Vero and not see some of those same smiling faces that are there year after year!!

How about renting your points out from the trip that was cancelled and using the $$ to stay at a WDW resort?

Thanks, everyone, for all you responses and help. I was on the phone abain today with Member Services, and actually booked then cancelled at Caribbean. They were GREAT about returning points used to my current use year, although points used to book outside of DVC aren't supposed to be reversed.

We contemplated many of the ideas you guys threw out there for us, but we've decided that maybe, just maybe, this is a vacation that's not meant to be. Our air is on Song, and their rescheduling fee is very reasonable. So....we'll try this again next year.

I have a Nov. 6 exchange from II. I talked to MS yesterday and they were saying Nov. 8 and then II called me today to say Nov. 8. I decided to keep the exchange and just lose 2 days of it.

We're going to be at BWV the week before and Summer Bay the week after so I will have to find someplace for the 6th and 7th.

we received the letter last night ( 10/12) with the november 8 date - it is just verbatim from the dvc site.

however, since our reservations were to start on 11/7, we called today (10/13) and were told the resort will not open until 11/20.

I think this was decided today or late yesterday.

checked with DW - member services found out this morning about the 11/20 opening

we re-booked at HH for the same dates of 11/7 for 4 nights - had to go from a 1 to a 2-bedroom, which we don't need, and which costs 3 points more per night, which they did not offer to waive

it will just be a longer drive from Tampa - anyone know how long or far

5.5 hours to 6 hours from WDW if that helps gauge the time for you.

I just called MS.

She said the soft opening is scheduled for Nov. 8 for people holding reservations.

New reservations are not being made until Nov. 20.

well, this IS getting ridiculous! we had reservations and they told us not open until 11/20 today, so we booked HH, but I sure would prefer to go to VB, where I planned to go.

It is a 3 1/2 hour drive from Tampa. HH is about 7 1/2 hours.

our vb reservations were for 11/7 to 11/11

maybe just because of the 11/7 date?

we wanted to just start 11/8 and add a day at the end

oh well

Did you buy trip insurance? Do you know that II's rules totally exonerate them in this situation? You could totally lose your exchange and II would have no liability under their rules. On the bright side, I don't think you have to pay the $95 fee for VB or HH.

NJ Teacher's Convention-----It is also the teachers that go to WDW, since most of them do not even go to Atlantic City. It is not mandatory that they attend the convention.

I never bother buying trip insurance. Yes, that's the first thing II told me "you'll have to pay another exchange fee if you want to cancel and put in for another exchange".

At least they were going to let me have my week back.

This is a 2 BR at Vero so I thought it was a good enough deal to lose the first 2 nights. I realize that the resort will not be in the best shape.

To be clear, I wouldn't normally suggest this type of insurance, it's rarely a good deal. I simply wanted you to know that II had their bases covered. Don't forget there are other consequences for canceling at less than 60 days. Good luck.
