Our Ratty Camper and "The Look" Update: Interior Pix Pg. 5

I don't know if I'm a "gentleman", and I will deny being of a "certain age." But, I would love to see the inside. You have a real jewel there. I am sure you could trade that for a flush toilet! Unless of course I was your husband, I wouldn't get rid of that for any toilet.

Enjoy your trip, you have nothing to worry about at the fort!

hey is this steve newell from county fire rescue.

You have a pearl there my dear, I work in the airline reno industry and for 5 grand I can get that thing gutted and updated with all the newest amenities including a flushing toilet.
Pictures please that is exactly the dream I spoke of !!!!!!!

At least you have a camper. An Airstream is CLASSIC!!!! We stay in premium and if you were parked next to us we would be talking to you when you were outside because we'd be neighbors.:thumbsup2

Off i-4 down toward lakeland, there's an RV lot that sells airstreams. I don't know how vintage they go, but there's a ton of them there. I've always wanted to stop and look, but the price tag keeps me lookin just from the highway.

ETA: My first ever picture on a message board! It took me an hour but I'm so proud :)

I read your original post and am now looking at this photo, and I can't figure out how this little beauty is an eyesore. Did you have a rusty fridge plugged in outside, or something? ;)

Camping novice here - only two times to the Fort - but even this untrained eye can tell you that is a beautiful machine!

I like how the support arms for the awning are curved to match the curve of the body so that when the awning is retracted, it's up against the body. Whew, I'm getting excited. Well I was a machine design engineer.

thats funny i was looking at those wondering why they were curved. now it makes perfect sense. and airstreams are pretty stinkin cool. i think you will definitely be welcomed at the premium sites

I will trade you "ratty" campers any day! ;)

I LOVE your camper. Definitely good to go for the Fort. :thumbsup2

Hope that you have a wonderful trip. :goodvibes

Just looking at the outside it's really hard to tell that is a 1966. That's the cool thing about
Airstreams, the stainless shell looks good forever if you can keep from banging it up. The only thing that really looks dated are the wheels, but that's any easy fix if you're inclined to do so. Have fun.

That is a nice classic. They had a special on one of the travel channels a while back how a few of the Hollywood actors were buying vintage Airstreams and spending thousands of dollars to have them remodeled.

But no matter what, it is not the camping unit that matters, it's the campers inside.

I showed the thread to hubby (He only participates in LSU football internet boards) and he was tickled pink :goodvibes Looks like we'll be okay at Ft. Wilderness.

Scott has ordered new hubcaps for project Spruce Up Dino. I think new carpet may be in the works too.

Re: the bare picture with out the usual assortment of camping junk scattered around the site.

Bad, bad, bad weather was predicted that weekend. It was the same weekend that poor Yazoo City, Mississippi got hit so hard. Note the NASCAR themed mat. We've got a LOT more in that vein ;) There will definitely be the screen house and cooler out front. Well, maybe no cooler-hubby has been ordered to cut his beer consumption waaaaay back.

I sometimes fix breakfast outside so that Dino doesn't smell like bacon all day. Is that okay at Fort Wilderness?

BTW-I read the clothesline thread and promise to dry all of our undies indoors ;)

ETA: I think Scott is planning on working on Dino this weekend. If he opens her up I'll get a few pix.

We just bought a new fry pan expressly for cooking outside at the Fort. And some people leave their crock pot outside all day, but risk an empty pot when they return. :goodvibes

I love the smell of bacon & sausage in the morning or something getting barbequed in the day. Just leave free samples out.

Cooking outside!! Of course you can cook outside!!

Since my kitchen is outside, you better be able to!!!!

Beautiful camper you have there!!!

We do most of our cooking outside! One of my favorite camping "must-haves" is the griddle. Whenever we are at home and haven't been able to get on the road in a while, I'll break out the griddle and make pancakes and bacon, our "camping breakfast":woohoo:!

If it were me and I was a little "skittish" about taking this camper to the Fort because of looks. Here's what I'd do.

See if you could find a set of nice polished aluminum rims and tires, sort of like the newer ones have. That would make that camper look like a totally different unit. Folks would think you had a 2011 Airstream.

But that's just my .02. From your earlier posts, it's definitely not what I was expecting. I like it. :thumbsup2
