Hi everyone,
We just got back (ok earlier this week) from a GREAT vacation in WDW from 5/3-5/10. We stayed off-site at La Quinta Inn Lakeside and enjoyed ourselves. I'll post a review of the hotel and some pix in another post. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for their input that really helped me make firm yet flexible plans to guide our vacation. We ate most of our meals on-site but we ate at the following resturants when we were outside of the park. All the meals included DH(not a picky eater), DD(2.5 years old and PICKY) and me(a somewhat picky eater).
5/3 - Arrival Day - Around Noon - Our flight got in early (I LOVE Southwest) and we couldn't check into the hotel quite yet so we went to Shoney's on 192 (I think the address was around 7000 or 6000 I'm not sure). When we got there they were just pulling up the breakfast buffet but the waitress encouraged us to have some of the breakfast and lunch buffets. We sat down and ordered Sweet Tea (an indulgence never found in Chicago) and looked at the breakfast bar. I'm not too keen on buffets but I generally like Shoney's. The breakfast food was potatoes, rice, bacon, sausage, pancakes and fried chicken tenders. The lunch buffet included meatloaf, fried chicken, deep fried pork chops, and salisbury steaks. The food was hot and fresh. The veggies were the best. Growing up in the south, I totally miss the slow cooked fresh greens, green beans and sweet corn. We were all pretty hungry since we had been up since 4:00 a.m. and barely eaten all day. The service was great. The real surprise was that the lunch buffet was $7.99 per adult and free for DD. Our total tab including tip was about $22.00. Service A, Food A, Value A++
5/3- Late Evening - After checking into our hotel, resting and shopping at Downtown Disney we headed to Chevy's Mexican resturant at the Crossroads. We were pleasantly surprised that the resturant was only about 1/2 full. We didn't order appetizers but DH and I both had drink. DH had a Marguarita and I had a Midori (made with honeydew melon and liquors). My drink was delicious, not too weak or too strong. DH's drink was good as well. The chips on the table were light, appropriately salted and crispy. The salsa on the table had smokey, spicy flavor but not too hot. DD had chicken strips and fries (I can say now that this will be her meal of choice). I had the combo plate with a chili releno and a pork tamale. DH had the "Super Cino" combo with a taco, enchilada, tamale and a chili releno. The portions were very big and we ended up taking food home with us. I enjoyed my tamale more that the chili primarly because I think I had eaten a lot of rich food in a short period of time. The service was good as well. I'm surprised that more people have not eaten here for the quality and price are well worth it. Our total bill was about $47.00 with tax and tip included. Service: B+, Food B+, Value A
Thanks for reading this and I hope this helps others. In part II I'll review Red Lobster and Arabian Nights.
