We returned last weekend from our 4 night trip--12/29-1/1. Here are our reviews.
Dolphin--we had one night here with my teacher discount. I have a starwood preferred membership from our trip last year. The girl at check in asked if I wanted a balcony for $30 but I said no, not for just one night--but we ended up with one anyhow, possibly when she saw I had a starwood card. We took the west elevator down to the second floor but we had a good view of the pools in the distance. We also had a heavenly bed which was wonderful. I think our room was smaller than our room on a higher floor last year, but it was just fine for one night. We were close to a door going to the walkway to the parks.
Contemporary--I had 3 nights in the tower on DVC points. I had requested non smoking MK view. Ann Marie, the CM at check in, said she had only one MK view but it was smoking--when I found out it was on the 8th floor I took it anyhow. It didn't smell at all. We had the most awesome view ever--room 4428. You could see from the monorail track on the left all the way over to past space mountain on the right--you can watch the ferries, trains at MK, resorts, electrical pageant, and best of all we had the most wonderful view of all time for the NYE fireworks--half of them were from the island and half from the MK. We had thought of booking this resort for our first trip and switched to the Poly, but I actually think we like this better--the room was bigger and brighter. The kids liked the arcade and I filled up my mug often--plus the shops are bigger and we ate at two of the restaurants, Chef Mickey's and the Concourse Steakhouse. My 5 year old DS liked watching the monorail come and go as well and the kids actually fought over the daybed--the last night I used it with the curtains open so I could watch the castle!
I know some people don't like this resort because it isn't as "themed" as the others, but we found it a lot of fun, big and bright, and roomy for our 3 kids. Plus the transportation to Epcot and MK can't be beat.
