WHAT WE PLANNED ON HAPPENING:
I'd leave work early (around 2pm or so) and we would finish our last minute packing before taking Noah (our dog) to my parent's house and then driving back to our house where Alex's parents would be picking us up and taking us to the airport. We'd make our way to the airport, arriving two hours prior to our departure time and we would check our luggage curbside because I was able to "check us in" and pick our seats for the flight via AirTran's online check-in service. Our plane would depart, on time, at 6:30pm, and we would arrive in Baltimore for our layover, and then land in Orlando, on time, at 10:31pm. We would meet our Tiffany Towncar driver at the escalators at the baggage claim area and we would grab our bags before hopping in the car and heading to the Pop Century Resort. We had anticipated arriving and checking in to Pop Century by 11:30pm.
WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED:
I left work early, at 1:45pm and arrived home to find that Alex hadn't done much packing at all! We finished packing the bags and then hopped in the car and drove Noah to my parent's house. We didn't have time to stay - sorry, Mom! - so we gave Noah a quick hug and went on our way back to our house to meet Mom and Dad. Mom and Dad were supposed to arrive at our house to pick us up at 4:00pm. Well, by 4:25pm, we were getting a little worried, so we called their cell phone and they said that were on their way - traffic was horrendous because there was a structural problem with one of the bridges and they had to close two of the major expressways. And, as luck would have it - the expressways were the way that we were planning on getting to the airport!
When Mom and Dad finally arrived at our house, at 4:30pm, we quickly loaded our bags into their car and we hopped in. Just as they had said - traffic was terrible! We made it to the airport at 5:15pm, an hour and fifteen minutes before our flight was scheduled to depart. Not too bad. We had planned on using the curbside check in, but there were no skycaps to check our bags, so we headed inside the airport and checked our bags at the AirTran counter. After that, the four of us headed over to McDonald's for some coffee (for Alex and Dad), ice cream (for Mom), and water (for me). We sat and waited with Mom and Dad until 6pm, where we gave them a quick hug goodbye and we headed over to our gate to wait for our seats to be called.
They began boarding our flight around 6:15pm. We found our seats and settled in. Our plane took off right at 6:30pm, as scheduled, but we arrived in Baltimore about 15 minutes late. Luckily, we were staying on the same plane for the whole way, so we just stayed in our seats as they boarded the "new" passengers. We were supposed to take off at 7:25pm, but we ended up taking off at 7:40pm instead. They must have made the time up in the air, however, because we arrived in Orlando, on time, at 10:30pm.
Alex and I made a quick pitstop in the restrooms before meeting Carlos (I think that was his name) at the bottom of the escalators at the baggage claim area. We were lucky that our luggage was one of the first to come out. Carlos helped us with our luggage and then had us wait outside while he went to go and get the car. He pulled up in a shiny black Lincoln Towncar and put our luggage in the trunk for us. It it so nice to not have to worry about catching a shuttle, or figuring out how to get to the resort in a rental car. We chatted with Carlos a bit - he was interested in where we were from because our last name is Ramos... he moved to Orlando from Brazil four years ago and he said he knew some people from Puerto Rico - where Alex's grandfather lived before he passed away.
Carlos dropped us off at the Pop Century (Alex and I were very surprised at how BIG it is!) at 11:45pm. He and Alex settled the bill and then Alex and I headed into the lobby of the Pop Century Resort. It was really neat! I loved the shadow boxes depicting all of the fads and crazes for each decade. Alex sat on one of the benches and waited while I checked in. There was no one else in line before me, so I walked right up to the cast member on duty.
Now, mind you, Alex is very tired at this point from all of the travelling... Well, don't I just get the cast member who is apparently, very new! Figures! LOL I didn't mind being patient with her - we probably had a great training case - with one room only reservation and then, tomorrow, a package. Alex, however, couldn't BELIEVE that it took her twenty minutes to check us in! LOL
She, at first, wanted to put us in one of the 90's buildings, but we had our hearts set on the 70's buildings, so I asked her if there was anything available in the 70's building, and she said she found the LAST room available in the 70's. So we got lucky with that one.
By the time we were finished checking in, I was STARVING and Everything Pop was closing any second now. So, we rushed over to Everything Pop and I ordered an individual pepperoni pizza. Alex said he just wanted some doritos so I picked up a bag for him. Much to Alex's dismay, it took about ten minutes for them to make the pizza for me! LOL Just our luck! Anyway, once we finally had our food - I paid for it and then we headed outside to find our room.
It was nice outside - we had left Rochester in 40 some degree weather and we arrived in Orlando in 60 some degree weather. It was wonderful! We walked past Goofy's pop jet area, very cool! We also walked through the foosball area and into our building, which was the one with the Big Wheel. How fun! We made our way up to the second floor and found our room - room # 0233. I had originally requested a room with a king bed, but I didn't bother "fighting" for it - it wasn't a necessity. So, we ended up with a room with two double beds. We unpacked a little bit and ate our snack before hitting the bed for the night.
