Players:
Susan, 39 - trip report writer, lover of all things Disney
Larry, 46 - DH, converted Disney fanatic, can't get enough Disney trips
Tara, 16 - DD, ready to go to Disney for any reason (or no reason)
Dad, 69 - DF, first Disney trip in about 12 or so years, ready to do pretty much everything except the coasters
Mom, 61 - DM, same Disney background as Dad, ready to do anything that doesn't mess up her hair
Sister, 25 - DS, last went to Disney when she was in middle school, is ready to have some fun
Brother-in-Law, 28 - DBIL, hasn't been to Disney in years, very into thrill rides
Brother, 22 - DB, went to Disney about 5 years ago, but ready to see the new stuff added since then, also very into thrill rides
Everyone was up early today and we each grabbed a quick breakfast. I made cheese toast and had a muffin with my coffee - love the full kitchens in these villas! We caught the bus and were at MGM in no time. First stop, fast passes for Tower of Terror and then a ride on Rockin' Roller Coaster. Since our fast pass time had not come up yet, we rode RRC again and then enjoyed ToT. Tara and her grandparents opted out of these rides and were shopping in the stores at the end of street. My dad liked hanging out at the store that plays swing music all day, which is where Tara bought the cutest drawing of Lilo and Stitch that she has hanging in her room now (sorry, the name of the store escapes me at this point). We all met up and pulled fast passes for the Little Mermaid show, then rode The Great Movie Ride. We had the cowboy side and I don't remember being on that side before, so I enjoyed the "shoot-out" that went on and the switch between the two cast members. We then took in the Little Mermaid show, and my dad says Prince Eric has the best job in the whole park because he gets to carry Ariel around! We skipped the animation tour (with no animators, it doesn't seem worth the effort) and the Millionaire game because they were filming it with Meredith Viera that day and we didn't want to invest so much time into one attraction. We went on to the Backlot and took that tour. It was interesting to see where the new stunt show will be held. We could see lots of black marks on the pavement where they have been practicing for it.
After the Backlot tour, we were hungry so we stopped at ABC Commissary for lunch. I had the Cuban sandwich, which was very good. I also seem to remember that my brother got the chicken curry and thought it was okay, my dad got a cheeseburger and enjoyed it, and my mom had some type of salad that she said was good. Larry and DBIL split the fish and chips and neither of them liked it - they said the fish was too soggy and mushy for their tastes, so they each had other sandwiches instead.
We moved on to the Muppets show after lunch and it was lots of fun, although my dad says Mickey's Philharmagic is still a better show! We then rode Star Tours, which turned out to be very exciting for me. I pulled my seat belt out too far when I went to get in the seat, and it wouldn't retract back to fit me, so I had a lot of space to move around during the simulator ride! I survived, but it was definitely a more exciting ride than normal!
The next stop was the Indiana Jones show, which we all enjoyed. The guy that they had planted in the audience to come up to participate in the show was a hoot! I won't reveal his name so that none of you who are going soon will have the surprise ruined, but he really added a lot of comedy to the show. When we left, Tara pulled the rope in the well and we thought what happened next was pretty funny. Try it the next time you're there!
We took a break at this point and went back to our villa to rest. We came back to MGM that evening about 6:00 p.m. for the Fantasmic show. We all decided to get food at the stands just outside the show to eat while we waited for it. Most of us decided on turkey legs, and the service here was SO SLOW it was unbelievable. I have never waited that long for counter service food in off season before. They appeared to have plenty of turkey legs roasted and hot dogs made, so I don't know what the problem was. Anyway, we ended up in seats left of center and I was concerned that my family wouldn't have a good view, but they could all see fine so that was a big relief for me. I had a pole blocking part of my view, but that was not a concern for me because I had seen the show in October of last year. It was really cold on this particular night and everyone was bundled up in heavy coats, hats and gloves, but it was worth it! The show was as amazing as always and left several of my party asking questions about how Disney does some of those special effects! It was another super ending to a great day for most of us. However, my sister, DBIL and brother decided to stay for the special three hours they extend to Disney guests at this park on Sunday nights. They spent lots of time riding ToT and RRC and loved this particular perk, so I was glad they got to enjoy that extra time.
