Decisions... Decisions
It's our 1st trip to Walt disney world and we are currently booked at the contemporary with TP view October 20-26 2014. We are thinking of changing our reservations to a moderate resort and extending our visit 2 days and adding hopper. DW and I were wondering how convenient is the transportation to the parks from some of the moderates. Any thoughts and guidance from the wealth of knowledge on these boards would be greatly appreciated!

The parks are only a bus ride away. I stayed at all 4 moderates in the last 2 years. I really enjoy them we just need space when traveling as a family due to teen daughter and son.

I prefer the lakes at CBR and CSR with CSR my fav (vs river at POR)

Welcome! I am going to chime in here and say that if you are going to stay at a mod, do it before a deluxe stay! We stayed Poly, Poly again, Beach Club, Boardwalk Inn and then.....Port Orleans Riverside. it was a bit hard for us as we were used to the convenience that the deluxes provide in terms in transportation.

Basically if bus or monorail is not right there, you can usually start walking to a park from a deluxe. That was always huge for us, and worth paying for.

But having said that adding 2 more days and park hoppers to your trip is huge so downgrading to a mod may be worthwhile. BUT for a first trip CR with a Theme Park view is an amazing bonus for a first trip!! You will be spoiled for sure! Just don't add CL, one more thing to get spoiled with! Lol

We will be there in 5 weeks and I'm afraid of what we might encounter ! Both the poly and gf are on my disney bucket list so it's not the end of the world if I switch! I really wanted to stay at the poly but I don't want to be disappointed! Any helpful info is appreciated! What would you do?? Tia

I would honestly change. The Poly is my dream resort too, but I am going to wait until I can enjoy it fully. And, for the price, I'm not willing to put up with the extent of the construction going on.

We are staying at GF instead, and I am super excited. Next year will be our Poly year, when it's all shiny and new.

Poly is beautiful, that said I cannot do construction...GF is amazing so I'd do GF or return to BC...however you do still have location and the pool so keep that in mind

Working on ADRs for Dec. Right now have these:

Arrival night: Raglan Rd (late, apps/drinks)*
AK: Tusker House (lunch)
HS: Hollywood and Vine (lunch)
MK: QS lunch (BOG?)
EP: Biergarten (lunch)*/Akerhaus (PM)
Christmas: 1900 PF (brunch)*/Cape May (PM)*
Day After Christmas: T-Rex (dinner)*

All the ones with * are group meals. TA and I are working on which day/which park so I haven't decided on the specific days, just ADRs for whichever park we end up in.
I am trying to convince ILs to go to Marrakesh while we are at Akerhus (they really want to eat there - loved it last time - but DH and I go often and we want to make sure DDs gets princess time), but I worry MIL will feel they HAVE to eat with us. My main concern is she won't like the food at Akerhus for dinner and will be grumpy, thus raining on DDs princess time. We shall see! I'm hoping to convince MIL to get the Candlight Processional so that might influence her going to Morocco based on availability.

Adding two days and hoppers is awesome. Especially since you are going during during F&W!!! POR and POFQ are super romantic. I would take CR over a mod, but location is way more important with kids....Congrats on your first trip

Not from the beach, but you can see the EWP. By the boat dock you can see Wishes with the music as well!!!

Decided I will cancel the fireworks cruise. Made a 9:30pm ADR at Cali Grill instead. Dinner at 1900 PF, maybe some shopping at GF and/or CR, watch fireworks on the Observation deck at Cali Grill, then dessert and drinks. (then we can walk to the buses and head back to CSR)

I'm totally holding onto WL CL! I have considered splits and even booked one or two. But DH wants to stay put in the same place. WL is pretty much booked my dates even rack rate so I need to leave it

This is me! I keep glancing at other options but just can't fathom the risk! I already lost a great F! ADR and am stuck with an earlier one... what would happen if that happened with my resort!

Agree that hoppers during F&W are crucial! EPCOT has the best restaurant choices already, but throw in those food and drink booths and it's a great place to snack! DH and I cut through EPCOT on our way to and from MK to HS years ago just to have the excuse to grab a bite!

Of course things were sailing too smoothly with Dec. MIL wants to add a person to her room for part of the trip (not a hassle... we'll use the extra FD food credits and the price is good) AND she and SIL are talking about trying to do dinner as a group every night!

Luckily, I texted DH and he immediately wrote back "I am not using up all our TS credits to eat as a group of 12!" So, he's going to call the fam tonight and figure it all out. Five meals together that week is enough for me!!!!!

Personal front, LO is pulling up so my life just got taller! Now I've been babyproofing up... so much harder with a 6 year old in the house!!!

I LOVE the way you think... I can smuggle my friend with me and leave DH with the kiddos: "you know how Disney transport is! I ended up having to hop over to the GF and figured I'd watch the fireworks while I was there!"

Nothing on the park front but I just signed DD and myself up for the GKTW Coasterpalooza Fundraiser! My cousin had such a great time and I have always loved the organization so I felt like this was a good way to give back (since I can't run, I'm limited in my options!)... plus, I can show DD that we can raise money and have fun, too! When she gets older I plan on adding a day into our Disney trips at GKTW so I'm excited to start her with the idea of the organization now!!!

Thinking of canceling CRT dinner and doing Akershus dinner one night instead. We also have 1900 PF.

Thoughts on CRT dinner vs Akershus? We've done CRT for breakfast and dinner before, Akershus only for breakfast before.

We've done CRT lunch and Akerhus dinner and enjoyed both. Can't remember if you have the DP or not...perhaps do Akershus since you have already been to CRT twice? And then return to CRT next year

Decisions... this is what we ponder all the time!!

First stay, I'd probably go the 2 extra days and PH and go with POR Riverside or POR FQ. We've stayed at Riverside twice and DD really liked it. Beautiful grounds, 2 pools since POR resorts are sister resorts, bus service was good. The buses do share but we did not feel it was negative in any way. Plus the boat to DTD and Piano Bob at Riverside (great family friendly show) - super! With a first time trip, there is a lot to see and do.

That being said, you can't beat a monorail resort for location especially when MK is the focus. Welcome to our RC enabling world!!
