Our little thread of BIG changes, the neverending saga of the Resort Changers

::yes:: I think I may have to try Garden Grill! Always try to find some firsts for each trip. We have ADR for LTT this trip! A new to us ADR, and a dinner BOG. We've been for lunch, but not dinner!

We were going to do LTT but couldn't fit it in with all the rest...was thinking BOG for lunch, but I like CHH too much to give it up I think! And we only have 1 QS scheduled for our MK days...we will be trying Flame Tree I think this trip and Roaring Fork at the resort! :-)

Bummer, but I understand -- DH is a road trip commando... SOO many places I want to stop on I-95 and soooo hard to convince him.

There are a ton of places we want to go to, but we just don't have the time. I want to go back sometime without the boys and visit CA wine country.

so, I just saw the new character dining options for SW weekend: OMG, I don't even really like SW and I want to do it!
Per my TA: Star Wars Weekends UPDATE! Two new character meal experiences will be available through Star Wars Weekends at the Hollywood Studios Park. Dinner at Hollywood and Vine will feature Ewok Chip & Dale, Jedi Mickey, Leia Minnie, Darth Goofy and Stormtrooper Donald. There will also be a Star Wars Galactic Dine-In Breakfast at the Sci-Fi Dine-In featuring Stormtroopers, Jawa, Greedo, Boba Fett and Darth Vader, while clips of Star Wars movies play on the big screen!

How awesome is that! :chewy::darth::ewok::yoda:

I heard about that and I would love it if they made it a permanent thing.

There does seem to be SO much to do in SoCal, I am enjoying all the advice!!

I know!! I would love to do Universal, the San Diego zoo, and a ton of other stuff.

wookie I would suggest Santa Monica Beach. If you were doing the beach while still in Orange County (Disney) I would say Newport Beach which is my favorite So Cal beach. Santa Monica will give you the flavor of the CA beach scene. Little bit of useless info: Decades old disagreement between Santa Monica Beach (So Cal) and Santa Cruz Beach (Nor Cal) as to which town is Surf City (Beach Boys). :beach:

I had to call Disney today and take the dining plan off of our DL trip. I told the DH that for one of the meals, we had to do character dining and he didn't like their being only 5 options, some only open for breakfast. I think there was only 1 open in each park, one of which was only open for breakfast. I wish they had the same dining plan WDW has. We really loved the basic DDP on our last trip. The woman I talked to suggested Santa Monica Beach as well.

Did Linda say Newport??? Of course, that's the best beach ever. And now that I found my new favorite beach house rental, it's really the best beach ever. But if choices are Santa Monica or Venice, definitely Santa Monica.

Meanwhile, here's my Newport thread:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2895078

I'm originally from the Bay Area and my mom grew up in Southern California, so we did the San Francisco to SoCal drive many times. Most recently, my husband and I took our boys on that drive in 2012. Love it!

I love those pics!! I just wish I was on the beach with my toes in the sand.

Wookie, love your Road trip/DL itinerary! Some day we will make it out west but in the meantime will live thru you and Linda.

I am so excited about this trip!! It's the first family trip we've taken (non weekend trip) that hasn't been about just hurrying up and getting to WDW, and then hurrying up home from WDW. We have fun stuff planned both before and after.

This year is a West coast trip. Summer 2015 will be an East coast trip. We'll go to VA to see my sister, and will hopefully get to see a lot of stuff in DC, Gettysburg, Hersey PA. Plus we're hoping to spend one day in NYC and will get to see Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. Summer 2016 will hopefully be a Disney Cruise, which the friend I work with is talking about closing her daycare for our families to go together. She wants me to be her personal tour guide to WDW.

Well I talked to both Disneyland and WDW on the phone. I called to change our WL reservation from a room with a roll in shower in the bathroom, that came with a 1 Queen bed, and a bunk bed (I was going to sleep in the bunk bed, so my friend could have a roll in shower). They said that the WL didn't have a room with 2 Queens, so I had no other option but to change. We are now at the BWI.

Wookie - BWI will be nice for F&W! :-) I already mentioned F&W for my 40th birthday to my SIL. Thinking girls only trip, staying at an Epcot resort! Only 3 more years! :-)

Jenny-Hooray for WL and an adults only trip! :dance3: The beautiful lobby, the pool, the great music they play, it's such fun! :thumbsup2

Wookie
-I just noticed you'd ch-ch-changed to BWI. Great change! The walk to Epcot is amazingly short. It seems like you blink and you're in France. (Well..Disney France. Ha!) :dance3:

Happy planning! Yes, it's definitely an invitation to book CL! We moved from California when I was young, and most of my growing up years were in Fairfax, Va, so I remember many Williamsburg trips! (The coast-to-coast is how I got started at DL, but then switched to WDW!) We took the kids a few years ago while visiting my parents in D.C. and our oldest really enjoyed it. May is such a better time to go - we were there in late March and the weather was crummy.

Yes, March in this general area is a pot-luck... this year is 'winter extension', last year was 'ridiculously hot'. *Sighs* the joy of the mid-Atlantic! :rolleyes:

I heard about that and I would love it if they made it a permanent thing.
Or at least had it daily throughout SW weekends... I heard it's only on the weekend which is making it a hard ADR!

FWIW, we loved Ariel's Grotto at CA when we were there. The dessert plate was especially a hit! Blue Bayou is the bestest - I would kill for a Monte Cristo right now!

Great Ch-ch-change! Trying to finagle that one for us! ;)

I love the idea of doing West Coat/East Coast trips! Due to our moving and visiting DH's family, DDs are going to be used to driving (it's about $700/ticket to fly to his family so driving is often our option). We would drive to WDW this Sept but found great airfare from SW... may be driving down for Christmas - weather may decide that one.

I know you have family here but if you need any tips on outside DC things to do on your EC trip, love to offer!!! I spent 20 years in MD growing up and now DH took me halfway around the world to end up an hour from where I grew up... love the Navy! :lmao:

*~*
Happy Planning this Thursday!
Janet you can add us to the list! Aug 20-24 WL!!:cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1: Adults only.:cool2:

wookie - Forgot to say: Phantom on Broadway is AWWWWWESOME!
DH had to go to a football game outside NY in college so we did a weekend in NYC around the game. I LOVE PotO and we were able to finagle great tickets at the last minute (my first experience of 'if at first you don't succeed, call back and talk to someone else!'). LOVED it... def worth catching a show on Broadway if you can!

Phantom is probably my second favorite show. Wicked is the most amazing thing I've seen and will likely stay at the top of my list (until Frozen comes out on Broadway!) would love to see Newsies, but considering I can't get to NYC, I have to wait until they're in Chicago...

My friend saw WICKED with Idina Menzel... came home and was like "Dude, that girl has skills!" Laughed when it took FROZEN for everyone to 'see' her. ;)

* * * * * * * *

No changes but got airfare for Sept done! :goodvibes
Now we are committed! (at least that's what I'm telling DH)
.... trying to stay with WL for the week but really having BW dreams :scratchin Is it bad form to call Disney myself and see if anything is available and then let TA know if there is???

:wave2:

:rotfl:

We are all switched over to Yacht Club! :cheer2: I will have to keep checking to see if we can upgrade from Garden to Lagoon view though (those were all booked except at CL). So, there may be one more change still to come!

:yay: Was booked at the YC too but that was the other day... YC and SAB look amazing! Enjoy!

I would LOVE a husband who suggests and upgrade!!! :rotfl: Mine just rolls his eyes anytime I change something. Instead of a budget cap we self-limit: he knows whatever he spends on a hunting or fishing trip is being mentally calculated in my head (and vice-versa)... last hunting trip was a doozy so I have some room to wiggle! ;)

Oh I like this rationale!! So have you encouraged DH on taking the ultimate hunting/fishing trip? :teeth:

I PERSONALLY LOVE GG!!! It's our MUST do. DD6 had a blast last trip because Pluto kept flirting with her (she had pigtales so he'd wave his ears at her). We have it on our agenda for both Sept and Dec. :cloud9:

Oh, I bet this is some cute pix!! :flower3:

So Akershus was changed to Garden Grill and we're doing CRT for dinner our first MK day, no LTT, and added 1900 Park Fare for dinner as well. :-) paying OOP for the two breakfasts, but it is pretty equal to what the BBQ was costing, so...it works. :-) that way we can just do QS at the resort for dinner on our AK day, swim, catch the EWP and maybe movie?

Krystal, I think I'm up to date with your changes!! and it all sounds good! Still getting in the princesses and those lovely step sisters :) Gotta love Chip and Dale too! :thumbsup2

Janet :beach: is it August yet??

Sue, I wish! this morning was one of "those" mornings... so of course I was like "you have 3 BBs booked, so use ONE (sooner the better)!! :upsidedow

It's going to be quite the party at the Poly! :beach:

You bet Linda!! :woohoo:

::yes::

I think I may have to try Garden Grill! Always try to find some firsts for each trip. We have ADR for LTT this trip! A new to us ADR, and a dinner BOG. We've been for lunch, but not dinner!

Sue, I am thinking of trying to fit in a GC also... we did this in 2006 and Sam had so much fun!

Love your road trip plans! We have seen several shows on Broadway over the years. Phantom 2x. Love the music and have the CD. Les Mis was wonderful and is returning to bway.. hoping to get tix.

Kim, being at BWI during F&W will be fantastic!! You all will have a great time! :goodvibes

:woohoo: You have been added!!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

SOOO... the changer who never officially changes (plenty of mental changes :)) made a change to the POLY for August. :woohoo:

My friend saw WICKED with Idina Menzel... came home and was like "Dude, that girl has skills!" Laughed when it took FROZEN for everyone to 'see' her. ;)

She was awesome on Glee as well! Love the "Poker Face" duet she sang with Rachel. :thumbsup2

Committed to what?? :upsidedow Still wanting to change?? :teeth:

Sure, call Disney! It can't hurt!

What an awesome change! :jumping1:

You're going to have such fun! :beach:

Thanks G :goodvibes. Figured you would like this one ::yes::... now see if my inner voice allows me to keep all days at the Poly... :)

:cheer2::cheer2: yay for Poly!!

Sue, and sooo close to those Dole Whips (which we've never tasted).

So, late nights on the beach with Lapu Lapus?? With Linda and her DD too ... guess my DD will be the designated "adult" :upsidedow

I would love to be at WDW for my 40th, but the year I turn 40 I am planning on doing a WDW cruise as a graduation present for Joey. The DH and I will just have to celebrate our birthdays late.

We're trying to see as much of the U.S. with the boys before they graduate. I'll take all the help I can get with the DC part of the trip. Even though my sister lives there, she will only have been there a year when we come. You have many more years of knowledge than she will when we get there.

I would love to see Wicked, but just haven't been able to yet. I love both PotO and Les Mis, but since we did a PotO show one year is HS marching band, it is just barely my fav. Plus a friend from HS works on the show. I'm not sure exactly what he does though.
