We were in Room 3301 from Dec. 18 - 20. This is the first room on the Main Lobby floor on the left in this tower. It gets some noise from everyone who walks by which is to be expected.
We had requested a room for someone with limited mobility so this is what we got! We were obviously close to the lobby, the elevators (which weren't a problem) and our windows opened onto dense greenery and green utility boxes (haven't uploaded my pictures yet!). While our room was convenient, the windows are also overlooked directly by the concierge area of the Main Lobby. You can't really keep your drapes open at all!
When we checked in at 10:00 AM we were told several times that we would be called when the room was ready. This never ever happened!!! I guess we should have called them.
Eventually we wandered back to the hotel at 4:30 pm; exhausted and asked again for our room. "Oh, we forgot to call you. Sorry. We gave your original room away. We'll find you another." We waited awhile (10 minutes) and then had to turn our cards in to be re-done. I was not happy.
Finally we went to the room, found cheerios on the floor and never got the fridge unlocked for our sodas etc. But we were tired after 6 days at Disney and our day at Universal.
Whoever designed these rooms forgot to put in sufficient electrical outlets! Both outlets on the headboard wall are filled with the clock and lamp cords and there are no outlets on the window wall. We had brought an extension cord but it would have done little to help us. I've seen more available outlets at Holiday Inn Express and Hampton Inns.
We ended up charging the ECV in the vanity area by the sink after shoving it in by the dresser the first night; what a nuisance. So the ECV ended up partially blocking access to the sink. I know that these rooms are not designed for ECVs but we even moved the table and chairs and still had trouble figuring out an efficient position to get things arranged to charge it. I don't think we're an unusual family with two laptops and cell phones and Kindles
are we?
I am not a fussy housekeeper but the grout for the floor tile in the bathroom was positively grungy black in places. It was a cleaner tan in other places so I can only assume that the mopping is at fault. I really hated to think about how it was cleaned....
DS and I went down to ride the boat for early access to WWOHP but the line was almost back up to the hotel itself so we ended up walking over; not a problem really for us but there were nowhere near enough boats running even at 6:30 am. This was on Sunday, Dec. 19th so maybe being on the weekend was the problem. The hotel promo literature does make a big point of pushing this service so maybe they should follow through better.
FWIW - We did enjoy the room service dinner the first night; good food and lovely service. And the Keurig coffee maker was perhaps the best thing in the room! I could complain more but I'll stop. If anyone wants to hear more, just PM me and I'll continue.
We have stayed at the HRH in the past and enjoyed it but I doubt that we will ever return to Universal's hotels; just too much of a bad taste in our mouths.
