We had to have our sweet cat Chessie put to sleep. She was 22 years old & has been winding down for a short while now. It's amazing for her age that until the past few weeks or so she was GREAT! This past week she stopped eating & then drinking...we knew it was her time but this is SO HARD. My family is just devastated. She has been in my DH's family her whole life & I've had her the past 12 years I've been with him. My kids are just so sad, they've never NOT had her and she slept with my DD every night...it did help a bit that I took them to the store & my DD got a pair of necklaces that say Sisters at Heart & my DS got Friends Forever. They each kept 1 & we buried Chessie with the other halves. We also made a Build a Bear and named it Chessie. It really seems to help to have something to snuggle while crying :sad1: We've all been taking turns with it
We still have our other furbaby Baxter who is very confused as to what has happened. I know there are a lot of you out there who love your furbabies as I do, and I really need some pixie dust right now

Lauren

 :sad1:

I know how you feel. My last cat made it to 19 and my oldest is now 20+ (still going strong).

I'm sorry about your little baby, Chessie. They are our babies forever, we love them so much. :grouphug:

Awwwww, Lauren, I'm so sorry. Many :grouphug: to you and your family.

What a good long life Chessie had. My Ethel lived to be 21. Not many cats live to be that age. Ethel was there for me through the good and the bad in my life and I just wanted her to live forever. We had to put her to sleep as well and it was very difficult!

I know your hearts are breaking right now but the pain will ease in time. May the precious memories you have of Chessie give you some comfort during this difficult time.

22 Years! Chessie must have had a very happy home life.
I am sure she will be missed.:cloud9:

Oh, I'm so sorry! :grouphug:
It's so hard to let one of your family go.
I love your idea of the trinkets for your kids and the stuffed animal for the family to share. What a great way to help your family deal with the grief.

I'll keep your family in my thoughts. :grouphug:

I'm a momma to 2 sweet little furballs, Isabel and Dory, myself. I also have a kitty that still lives with my parents who was too old to move with me when I headed out on my own. He's 14 now and I just dread that day...

My parents lost their 9 month old puppy, Ollie, in July.

While any type of loss is devastating, the loss of a pet leaves a different kind of ache. :guilty:

Chessie's in my thoughts.

Lauren, my heart goes out to you! My absolute favorite furbaby of all time, PC lived to 22 years also! She passed away almost exactly as your Chessie did. It was so hard for me and I know how you feel. I still remember going to work and thinking about her every day for weeks after she died.

I found it helped to go online to some of the pet remembrance sites and read what others had written about their pets.

Months later we adopted 2 older cats from a friend; something we had never done before. We had always taken kittens in before. Now they are both very dear and quite the challenge!

Give yourself time to heal and maybe take a favorite picture and put it in a frame for your desk.

:grouphug: for you!

I'm so so sorry for you. :grouphug:

My baby is 18 and I dread the day. I've had him since I was five, so like your kids I can't really remember life without him.

Wow! 22 years old! That's a lot of spoiling, and a lot of memories. I'm sure she's resting in peace. :)

I'm so sorry for your loss. I know how much it hurts. :grouphug: Just remember that you gave Chessie all that a cat could ever want: a long, healthy life, and lots of love. :)

I think the necklaces were a really sweet idea. I love that!

I am so very sorry for the loss of your much loved kitty.

Many :grouphug: :grouphug: to you and your family.

I am so sorry for your loss. It is so hard to lose a beloved pet. What a long life though. I'm sure you have some great memories of Chessie.

I am so sorry!!! 22 years old, wow!! Chessie lived a very wonderful, long life it sounds like. But I know from personal experience how hard it is to let them go. :sad1: I have 4 now, my oldest is 14 and is showing signs of kidney failure. :guilty: I got all teary reading about your necklace idea. I hope you don't mind if I borrow that idea when my time comes. My thoughts are with you and family, including your surviving kitty Baxter. :grouphug:
