I'm not insisting on anything. I'm just going with the most likely explanation. Given their symptoms and what they were doing those days I believe they got sick from the splash pads.
Most stomach bugs that you catch from contact are 12-24 hours bugs longer illnesses are from ingestion and usually the culprit is contaminated water.
