Our kids got sick from the Epcot splash pad

Crypto can last quite awhile! Hopefully they rebound quickly but dont be surprised if it lasts weeks. We traveled to Disney we 2 other families several years ago. We all stayed at Pop Century and all visited both waterparks together. Myself and 2 other adults got crypto while there and all 3 of us were sick for 3-4 weeks, I was miserable for weeks and barely able to function. It really hit me hard. However my dh and dd's didn't get sick at all, none of the kids did, just 2 dads and me.

You cannot know where they picked it up or even what bug it was. It is irresponsible to claim you do. It could have just as easily cone from a railing, the lap bar in a tide, a door handle, or a million other places. One kid could have also given it to the other.

No kidding.

Well going by the symptoms that my kids are presenting and the fact that no one else got sick even when our kids were throwing up on top of us constantly I believe my kids got sick by drinking recreational water. If it had been a random bug me and DH would have caught it for sure we always do..

I guarantee you that you will not always get every bug your children get. I'm sure they will get some that you have already been exposed to. As they get older, they will also get less stomach bugs. Lots of them present differently (fever, no fever, throw up once and done, mostly diahrea, throw up for 3 days...). Add to that the many other virus's out there (high fever no other symptoms, fever for a week, no fever bad headache...). It is what it is. They might have picked it up at the Splash Pads, they might have picked it up somewhere else.

Only once did we all get the same bug. A week before Christmas and within 3 hours we all were sick. Not food poisoning.

Luckily by adulthood we have hit the majority of stuff that is passed around.

You didn't dare go around my grandmother if you so much as had an allergy. Because anything she came down with in the next month was your fault. You just seldom know where something came from. Especially in a hotbed of germs like wdw!

I honestly don't think these "My kids got sick at WDW from---" threads should be allowed unless the OP has proof from a Doctor that that is what caused the illness. All they end up doing is stirring people up.

It is just as likely they got sick from putting their hands on something and then putting their hands on their faces. Or from not so great hand washing. That doesn't make it any less upsetting that they got sick, but there is truly no way to pinpoint the splash pads as the cause.

this has me worried to put my DD2 in a splash area.. as is the draw of the new AoA Nemo pool... so now that is worrying me, and the new splash area at MK in Fantasyland.. both i was excited for and now i am just going to worry.

So sorry to hear your twins are sick though. I hope they get better quickly. :)

There are millions of places to get Disney germs. Try not to get paranoid:).

If we don't allow them, then can we also not allow the "OMG I got food poisoning" threads if they don't actually get a diagnosis from a doctor?

Yup or that the baby got sick from its own diaper. Assuming it was wearin a diaper in the splash pad (likely given the age) whose to say it didn't cause the problem.

i will keep reminding myself that. i wanted to enjoy the new pools and now i will have to figure out how not to worry.

When will people realize not everything is a crisis? If your biggest problem is getting food poisoning at WDW or getting sick because of a splash pad, I think there are thousands of people willing to trade lives with you. :confused3

In short; First World Problems

Not sure i am willing to admit when I get food posing that can be my error no need to start a thread about that

Yep. ;)

I'm also a believer of free range parenting, so I accept that my kids are going to get some bumps and bruises along the way while they grow up. Like Calvin's dad always says. It builds character.

My DD is 1 and has played in the splash pads at Disney our past 3 trips and will on her 4th trip next month. We went to the zoo almost every week to go to the Splash pad. She was fine. She did get sick at the beach but who knows where it came from (it was horrible and involved a rash and a trip to the ER). Her Dr. knows she plays in them and thinks its fine. I asked on the beach trip and when he saw the Dr at home if what she had was bc I let her play in a splash area. They both said probably not, who knows where she got it. I don't let her sit and drink from them and take a towel and wipe her hands after she plays.

what the heck is crypto? and what is a splash pad?

ugh more to worry about :(

hope kids get better soon

Crypto is just another name of a stomach virus.

The splash pads are those padded areas where the water comes out of a fountain. My kids play in the splash pad at SW all the time. We have AP and the littles have been known to put water in their mouths and no one has ever gotten sick.

And there is nothing to worry about. You will be fine. So a kid gets sick. It happens all the time. You can't control when or where a child will get sick. Just go and enjoy your vacation. Like PP have said you get germs just from going on the rides. If you spend your life worrying about germs you will never enjoy life.
