Our justice system

First time I ever heard of this case. It is Horrifying beyond words. May those families and friends have the strength to even survive past this vicious heinous murder.
Death is too easy for those that perpetrated this crime.:sad1:

I didn't know what case you were talking about till I read Channon's name. :(

That case has haunted me like few have. I read about it on www.trutv.com
some time ago. I looked for it to come out on the mainstream media, but I never saw it there. I was shocked at the lack of coverage. Shocked by the inhumanity of the crime. Those two suffered so much. :sad1: :sad1: :sad1:

Thank you for posting the follow up. I probably wouldn't come across it.
I hope that somehow there is justice for all that were involved.

I've never heard of this case until now.

It sounds like a hate crime so far, from what I've read in the last 15 minutes.

I remember when this happened also. But I never found out exactly what happened. I understand why, because it is so horrible.

There are not words to describe how horrific this crime was. If this wasn't deemed a HATE crime, then the term Hate crime shouldn't even exist.

I agree. This is absolutely a HATE crime. What disgusts me is that one of the defendents was originally put in a minimum security prison, but at least now moved to maximum. I hope the skinheads in that prison have been paying attention to the news.

Amen sister. I have much more I would like to say, much more, but I will refrain. Those sacks of **** aren't worth being banned over.

As sad and tragic as the crimes were, and as outrageous as the verdicts seem, I see no evidence of a hate crime.

The fact that the perpetrators were one race and the victimes another doesn't make it racially motivated or a hate crime.

And why is that? If the defendants were white and the victims black, it would have been shoved down our throat and been headlines for months. :sad2:

What privileged thing to say.

Hate crimes happen to people of color at rates much higher than whites. Sorry if the coverage, oh, I mean the shoving down your throat of these terrible crimes makes you uncomfortable.

How can you prove that someone committed a "hate crime"? What exactly are the parameters?

This is a generic question, unrelated to what happened here.

Am I mistaken that one of the perps referred to the young woman as a "white b(female dog)"?

If they did it was never admitted or accepted as evidence.

"Police, prosecutors and the victims' families maintain that Newsom and Christian were not victims of a hate crime, rather victims of a carjacking that went terribly awry."

I also hadn't heard about this case. I suspect, if the roles were reversed, that the mere mention of race during the committing of the crime would have made it a bias crime. Just because the word used wasn't a slur doesn't mean it didn't show racial motivation to some extent.

I guess we can look at the bright side, since the roles were what they were we were spared having to listen to Rev. Al and Jessie Jackson.

I don't know that I think this is a hate crime either.

well, I guess there was HATE because you certainly had to hate to do it but I have no idea if it was because of their race or not. I think they probably did have fun torturing the white kids though (*sick*) but I think these animals were so screwed up in their heads that they were even able to do all the things they did to those two precious young adults.

Sadly, I have not even heard the verdict. But if she walks, she'll probably be killed. If she's smart, she'll ask to be in jail. The word anger doesn't even cover the feelings around here about this case.

God will see that those involved are judged for what they did. We don't know every detail or the whos and whats but He does and not matter whether they die tonight or 6 years from now, those details will be fresh to Him.

The most important thing anyone can do is to pray for those families. The need for justice has gotten them through the past 3+ yrs. Life is going to be really, really tough even from this point on. You can see her dad and know the rage he is feeling. God have mercy on their families and may Channon and Christopher rest in peace.

I can't believe I haven't heard about this case and I'm disgusted by the details of the murders! Absolutely sickening!

What would you call a "hate crime"?

Why not read up on the legislation and decide for yourself?

You are operating on a flawed premise here- that just because it was a heinous and hateful crime that it was a "hate crime".

The very first rule of a hate crime is that there needs to be some evidence. :confused3

Evidence, not assumption or innuendo of a bias motive for the crime.

I don't see any evidence, other than the fact that the victims were white and the perpetrators black, that the crime was motivated by enmity or bias against a particular group. There isn't any, because neither did anyone else.

Privileged, hardly how about fact? I would have never heard about this crime if I didn't read it hear on the Dis. You can bet whatever you want if the races were reversed this story would have been plastered on every headline in every newspaper and news station across the country. Al Sharpton would have been preaching about how the injustice continues for his people. blah blah blah!

Nothing makes me feel uncomfortable. I hardly grew up privleged and worked hard to get out of the area I grew up in , knowing I wanted my kids to grow up in a different environment.

Don't tell me how I feel . I know how I feel and I'm ticked off beyond belief that reverse prejudice is alive and well. But its buried and hidden so well, most people don't even know about it, just like this horrifying crime.
