Our Jeep was stolen!

We stayed in Pigeon Forge TN over the weekend. Sunday morning when we got up to get in our Jeep, it was gone! Someone had stolen it during the night. It was locked but had the softop on it, so it would have been easy to get into I guess.

The police hinted that we would never see it again, that it was probably taken by "professionals" to a "chop shop" and used for parts. He also said they have been targeting Rubicons, which makes me wonder if this is common there?

We feel so violated! I dont see how people can be so mean and evil! My DH works so hard and gets us anything we want, and this is the only thing he has ever wanted. Since he was a teenager he has dreamed of owning a jeep. And this is a 2006, so its the last model they made before they changed the body style and he doesn't like the new body style.

I just hope insurance and what we owe is the same, I hate to be paying on a vehicle we don't have. He isnt even sure if he wants to get another jeep, he said, why get something nice if someone is going to steal it?

That sucks. I had some stuff stolen from a hotel room once and I hated it. Not to get political, but I would be happy to pay higher taxes if it went for longer prison sentence for violent criminals and theives. Good luck with the insurance.

As an aside, I'd recommend never owing more on a car (or anything else for that matter) than it is worth.

oh i feel for you!!! on our second date dh's pathfinder was stolen out of the movie parking lot. we called the cops and they woudln't even come, altho the movie thater staff(mostly teens) were like yeah it's gone taken for parts. dh was so upset and i kid you not 11 years later still goes on about his damned pathfinder. i mean seriously he got a wife out of it!!!

his was eventually found about 15 minutes away and had been torched and the tires slashed. i hope some kind of justice finds the idiots that took yours!!! and i hope you're not hearing about it 11 years from now!

Even tho I wish someone would please steal my DH's horrible 16 year old Toyota 4-Runner I am sure I would feel violated as well.

funny that's what dh got after his pathfinder was stolen! and it was horrible!

Even tho I wish someone would please steal my DH's horrible 16 year old Toyota 4-Runner I am sure I would feel violated as well.

I wear jewelry often and I was robbed at gunpoint. The most expensive item he took was my wedding rings but he also took a cute Minnie watch that my neice gave me. It had a lot of value, but none of it monetary.

It took me a LONG time before I would wear any jewelry again. I felt so violated and so angry.

I hope insurance comes in for you.

I'm sorry. I know how you feel. I guess about 8 yrs ago, my DH's jeep was stolen out of our garage along with a bunch of tools. The police told us that it was probably on someone's ranch and we would never see it again. And, we haven't.

He has a new jeep now, with all sorts of upgrades, etc, to take it rock crawling. I don't think there is much that would upset him more than losing this jeep.

altho this particular incident happened 20 years ago.. we have actually had 2 other vehicles stolen from our driveways.. no kidding... both were recovered.. completely trashed.

We were in the process of moving during a duty station move and were on way to Illinois as our housing was not available in 29 Palms yet. We stopped in Laughlin, Nevada.

We parked our little Toyota Tercel close to the Casino/hotel, in a very well lit area. It was gone.... but the staff at the hotel was amazing. They gave us free room and board for a few nights so that we could talk to the insurance people, figure out what the hec to do etc. They searched everywhere in the parking lot.. ( like we misplaced the car .. it was kinda funny) The police told us that it was probably in taken by someone who had lost all there money and needed a way out of Laughlin.. or stolen for parts.
The hotel ended up helping us find a way back to 29 Palms.. which is in the middle of no where... really.
We ended up taking a tour bus back to the Marine Corp Base. It was a tour bus filled with retired people from Palm Springs. They were very sweet to our two little boys.

I will never understand why people think they can take things that don't belong to them..

You know there mama's taught them better....

I know how you feel about the violation. Our car was stolen once, years ago. I didn't realize how violated I would feel, but you do. We did get ours back (the police found it abandoned in a convenient store parking lot across town two days later) and when I got in...well, it was just a horrible feeling.

I sooo feel your pain! Three years ago our Jeep Cherokee was stolen from our hotel parking lot near Disneyland. The Anaheim cops were not helpful, neither was the hotel staff. They basically told us that there are several cars a week that are stolen from their hotel parking lot. To top it all off with, my purse was under the seat and they had access to our credit/debit cards so we had to cancel all of them. Thankfully, my DH's parents were also in Anaheim or we would have been in a world of hurt-no way to pay for the hotel or even get a rental car when you have to close your accounts. We had to rent a car and drive it one way back home which cost a fortune. The day the insurance company called to settle with us, we received a call from the police that our car had been recovered near San Diego-this was a month later. Someone had taken this car on as their own, placed Padres stickers on it, bobble heads, had a watermelon in the backseat, etc. We had to go back to Cali to get the car and drive it back which the insurance company paid for. I wish we wouldn't have gotten it back because it has never run the same again. Oh yeah, they did use our debit/credit card at some gas stations before we even noticed the car was missing. Thankfully our bank reimbursed us for that too. All in all, we came out okay I guess but it does really suck-we felt so violated!

This helped us get home once when my wife left her purse under a bush in rural Mexico. The funny thing is that someone mailed her back the purse about 6 months later. They took 10 bucks to cover shipping and handling. Of course, by then she had replaced her license, credit cards, keys, hand sanitizer, etc.

My car was stolen about 20 years ago- a VW cabriolet convertible. Oh it still makes me mad.

I didn't want another soft top.
But now- 20 years later I got another soft top. VW bug. It was a gift. And I cried like a baby when I got it. I was ready for another soft top!


I'm sorry and it stinks. Oh they found my car about a week later and I was so excited. Then the cop on the phone told me to not get too excited. They identified my car from the vin number on the windshield. Everything else on the car EVERYTHING was chopped and sold off- they had a floor board- windshield and a weird wheel car sitting on donuts-

My wife and I have a system. We have one main credit card that we both use as our primary card. Each of us also carries a card that the other doesn't carry. This way, if my wallet gets lost or stolen, we can cancel my two credit cards and she'll still have one that we can use.

Also, DH and I both have different numbers on our debit cards. If ones of ours gets lost, we can cancel that one, but the other card is still good.

OP, I'm sorry that happened to you. It feels awful to know that you work hard for something and someone just comes in and takes it like they are entitled.

Her purse is a fanny pack. She took it off to go to the bathroom. We were on a week long wilderness canoe trip. At least she remembered to bring back the shovel.

I do have a funny story that will make you laugh about stolen cars. I had a friend that was doing graduate work at Columbia in NYC. She bought her self a used Yugo. Remember them? Anyway, this car lived on the street. It was in bad shape both physically (inside and out) and mechanically. The AM radio had even been stolen out of it. It was over 10 years old and she had no idea why it was still running. So imagine her surprise one day when she came out to find the car gone. Her attitude was that someone obviously needed it more then she did. That thing was so ugly!!

ah yes, the one with the low maintenance air bag. You see the accident coming and didn't get hurt if you could reach for the paper bag and blow it up in time.
