Our Horrible Disney Vacation - LONG

I'm so sorry your vacation was ruined by a bug. Thats so awful...So disappointing after so much planning. I got food poisoning on my first trip with my parents and I was so very sick the last few days. I also got sun poisoning and broke out in a horrible rash  .but I still have wonderful memories from it. :rotfl:

Hopefully you will be able to get back there at some point. My husband laughs at me..but I'm rabid about hand sanitizer when we are on vacation (and right before)... sometimes it works..sometimes not

Why should your famoily gettig a bug mean you deserve a free vacation? Sorry it happened but I have been on vacation and gotten sick and NEVER expected a free trip.

Thanks so much for your kind words.

BTW - If you had taken more than a second to read anything on this thread, you would have realized that no one is looking for a free trip. As I said, it was just the way I was feeling, like since this trip was pretty much ruined, and all our money went down the toilet (with everything else :lmao: ) I wish we could get a do-over.

Anyway, next time you feel the need to write something nasty on a thread, think twice about the people who are reading it, and their feelings - you know, like what they told you back in Kindergarden..... just a thought. :goodvibes

Sorry that happened to you:grouphug: .it sounds like the lovely Norwalk virus that has been flying around the country caught up with you.No fun.

Wow - sorry you had a bad trip! I'm afraid of booking another WDW vacation, because we did a 10 day WDW/DCL vacation with 9 of us last November, no one got sick, the kids behaved great, and there wasn't a cloud in the sky the whole time. I KNOW this is never going to happen again!

One of our worst vacations was a week in the outer banks with my parents, and our 2 and 4 year old (years ago). It rained hard the entire week, and my dad has no patience with children (yelled at ds the entire time). There was NOTHING to do with the kids! And then, when we woke up the morning we were leaving (12 hour drive), we found our 2 year old had thrown up all over his crib - we drove all the way home with him puking in the van (and 2 year olds don't throw up in a bag... Of course, the next morning, dd and I had it, DH had to go to work, and I was ready to shoot myself!

Newest update!!!!

Just did a load of the kids clothes - I don't know, maybe I overloaded the washer - now there are suds coming out of the pvc piping. No more washes till DH gets home to inspect. Oh joy life is grand!!!!! All I know is I'm skippin the diet today and ordering me some Chinese food!!! Just hope I don't get sick from it!!!!

Sorry but if you don't laugh you'll cry.

Well, if you want a real knee slapper, SIL called my inlaws while we were all on vacation and told them that their furnace broke while they were in Fla. Water was coming out of it!! I swear, this family just does not travel well!!!

I'm so sorry about your trip! We did a Disney Cruise in January a few years ago - big family reunion, lots of cousins my kids rarely see. Our family was the first to book, and we convinced everyone to join us. I planned for 18 months - excursions, brunch at Palo, etc. The kids were SO excited - their first cruise and our first Disney Cruise. My older DD got sick the second night and was quarantined for the rest of the cruise (which meant I was quarantined with her). My younger one got sick as we left the ship, which ruined our plans for WDW after the cruise. I got sick driving home. We did have trip insurance, but it didn't cover everything and it couldn't make up for the disappointment of the kids not being able to enjoy the trip with their cousins. So glad we had a verandah - I would have gone crazy in a tiny cabin with a vomiting child with no fresh air and no washing machine!

We have done another Disney Cruise since then, but we decided no more cruises in the winter - it is cold, flu and stomach bug season!

Hope things improve quickly and you have a very Merry Christmas!

wow. sorry about your vacation. stomach viruses are the worst. my family and i just came back from WDW and about the second day there we all started coming down with some sort of respiratory infection. as a matter of fact i'm going on week 2 with it. but it's disappointing having to "force" yourself to enjoy disney when all you want to do is lie in bed. kwim? but we did it and still have great memories. so i totally commiserate with you. hope your next wdw vacation is bug free!

Dwell on the good points of the vacation! Hope all are well now.

Ugh! So sorry your vacation was so difficult. We are taking our first trip as a family with two 2-year-olds and I am worried about how they will react to all the strangers (very shy) and noise etc. of the parks. I guess I also better plan on lots of stanitizing products for the park and our rooms. I can't imagine having both of them sick on vacation.

That sucks! I'm so sorry your vacation was ruined by sickness. We are going for the first time as a family in January and I worry that one or all of us will get sick and how awful that would be. It never fails..everytime we go somewhere my dh gets sick. I do hope he can hold up this time though.
I hope you all are feeling better and things start looking up soon!

I
I would suggest one thing however. My family is on a tight budget. Mt DH has a good job but I am a SAHM, something we are not willing to budge on, so while we have enough money, we don't have a lot of money. All our friends ask all the time how in the world we can go to Disney every other year. We ALWAYS stay value (the good news is we love the values!, I don't want to stay anywhere else.) We just got back 2 weeks ago and even though it was Thanksgiving week, we never waited more than 10 minutes for a bus. Our room reservation was for 3 adults and 1 junior (our youngest was on my grandparents reservation). We stayed 8 nights, had 5 day tickets and free dining ad we paid $1803, yours would be even cheaper with 2 kids instead. Maybe going that route you could go sooner. I know the values aren't for everyone but we love them and we can afford to be there a lot more often. We have friends that went one time, to the fullest. They spent $10,000 on a deluxe suite, deluxe dining, the whole thing. We had as mcuh fun as they did and we get to go back!!! Anyway, jsut a thoguht.

Again, sorry about your trip. I am sure it stinks to pay so much and get so little. Had we all gotten sick I would have been upset too.

We do exactly the same thing! Everyone tells us oh, it's too expensive. We have learned how to plan and budget and we just came back from a two day last minute trip that cost us a total of $75. We were driving through FL on our way to a conference in Miami and got a room at ASMu. We had to stay somewhere anyways overnight before we got to Miami and this was the cheapest room around. We had free 2 day park tickets from a WDW royal mess up that was to smooth things over. Mommy crying in Guest Relations really put a damper on things our previous vacation because of a few incidents.

When we go regularly we don't always do the DDP as we found we were spending far too much time waiting for tables, traveling too and from parks or hotels to eat, waiting for dinners and cashing out that each sit down meal we lost 2 hours or so of park time. This time we are using the basic plan but we have also gone with no meal plan and eat in our rooms and only one counter service meal daily in the parks. We put small snacks in a small bag that each person carries with them and we do just fine that way too.

So sorry you had a bad trip but maybe the pixie dust will rain down on you and you will be able to go again sooner. (Mousesavers.com has some great ideas and deals once in awhile.)

PS. I am from Rochester!

I think it's kinda like pregnancy though, it's fresh in your mind right now so it seems really bad but as time goes on you'll remember the good parts of the vacation and the sick parts will be lost in your memories!

True, true. :) I've found that writing out my detailed, with pictures, trip reports helps a great deal!

Sharp, have you seen this trip report? You might enjoy it. :)

We were ther 12/7-12/14. DD8 on 12/13 (her b-day) threw up all over herself on the buss back to Poly from DD. Half made it in the bag, the other half-not so much. She was crying and embarassed. Most of the people on the bus were yelling at us and making awful remarks to us. VERY un-Disny like behavior:) She was sick the whole night and following day. BOTH vomiting and the other were going strong:mad: Housekeeping had to come and change the linens on the bed once. It was no fun trying to get her home on 12/14. She had dry heaves, and our flight left at 5 pm to Philadelphia. Surprise- there was a commuter plane accident in Philly, and the airport was closed. Our plane circled the airport for 30-45 min. I kept thinking of Die Hard 2. We finally landed (with DD still getting sick) and needed to wait 45 min for the gate to be brought to the exit. Baggage was another 30 min, so, We got home with a sick child, 8 days of laundry (all I washed on the trip was now soiled from the illness). The bright side is the first 7 days were wonderful and fun filled.:flower3:

My parents were there the week before you and my dad was sick with the exact same thing. It is going around there like crazy. I was there the same time as you and witnessed 3 children getting sick. I don't think going the week before or after would have helped either. Sorry your trip was not so great, but it will hopefully make future sick-free trips that much better.

OMG- I am so sorry that your trip was ruined.

I am always fearful on someone getting sick on our trips. My husband thinks I am crazy for NOT wanting to travel from the end of November thru end of March. I dont' want to travel during Flu, cold and stomache bug season. I know anyone can get sick at anytime but I would rather not chance it.

As for everything else, I am equally sorry. We just had a pipe burst in our basement it's not fun.

Hopefully everything turns around soon!!

Glad you're back home safe and sound. I have felt your pain; our last trip we made three trips in two days to the Urgent Care facility. DS8 came down with an ear infection, DS10 got strep throat and then DS8 had a reaction to the meds they gave us. On the bright side DD15 and DH had some great bonding time in the parks while I spent FOUR days in the villa. And on the very bright side, you're at the Jersey Shore, a place I still desperately miss even after moving over 8 years ago!

Sorry you guys had such a bad time. My co-worker got to WDW the day we left (11/30), and their group of 13 also had the same type of illness on their trip.

There must be something nasty floating around WDW. We just got back on Sunday, 12/14, and we were hit with the same type of bug on the night of 12/7. We spent a wonderful day at MK and went to WL to see the decorations after MK closed at 7. After we got back to our room at Pop and the kids were in bed the action started. Luckily I was able to get to DD with a garbage can. Unfortunately we weren't so lucky with DS. Then it nailed me too. DW managed to escape it for the most part. We were very thankful to housekeeping for bringing us clean bedding at 2:30AM. We layed in bed all day Monday and slept. By Tuesday we were able to function a bit better. We were moving to CSR that day and had planned on doing MVMCP but decided not to - glad we hadn't bought tickets. We managed to get to DHS for a bit in the evening to see the Osborne Lights. It took us a couple of days to get our strength back. It sure cut down on our food budget though :) . None of us felt the need to do ToT or RnR but we managed to do TSM 4 times in 1 day with FP :thumbsup2 .

Sorry, OP, for your terrible time. It sounds like you had it pretty bad and are still fighting it. I hope everyone gets better real soon.
