Trip Dates: 09/17 thru 09/24 (fall break for our County)

Cast: Me (Mom); DH, DD19 (skipped a week of college  ), DS16 and DS9 twins

Destination: Fort Wilderness or Bust!!

On Tuesday, we had planned on sleeping in and enjoying the campground (and maybe doing a little laundry & housekeeping - :sad2: ). I was having a dream about a noisy campground when I suddenly woke up and realized that it was no dream. The clock said 8:44 - everyone else was still asleep. There was a forklift outside (BEEP, BEEP, BEEP) hauling sod and pine straw right in front of our camper, and about 1/2 dozen workers laying it in the sites next to us and around us. So much for sleeping in. Had a big lazy breakfast and started some laundry in the comfort station right across the street from our camper ($2.00 to wash, $2.00 to dry). Went to the pool - had it to ourselves for quite a while. There was one couple there in the lounge chairs, but it was quite overcast on this day - helped to keep the temps down. Got a sudden downpour and we all jumped out of the pool and went to the covered pavilion - all of a sudden, the lifeguard jumped in the pool. We went to look - they were doing a "practice rescue". It was pretty interesting, to say the least. While at the pool, I used a house phone to call WDW dining, as we had not made plans for dinner on this night. After weighing all of our options, we decided on Boma at 5:10. Not only was this an AWESOME meal, it was an AWESOME resort (AKL) to visit. We must have spent 90 minutes or so (combining before & after dinner time) just looking around the lodge. In fact, had we not gone out on the savanna here, we would not have seen any giraffes, as we saw none on our safari tour at AK. This was a VERY COOL place. Went home and settled in for the night as we wanted to be at AK at opening the next am.

On Wednesday, got up at 7:00am to visit AK. Had a quick bite for breakfast at the camper as we had 10:20 ressies at Breakfastasaurous. Went straight to the safari with everyone else in the park - actually waited about 15 minutes in this line. And, of course, as Murphy's law would dictate, the safari was in the exact opposite corner of the park from our breakfast ressies. Did all of the rides in this park - loved Primeval Whirl, but beware! We rode 3 in each car, and I always rode on one side by myself. The 2nd time we rode, we all put our hands up. When we started spinning, I got jerked around and hit my back on the little hard "separator" in between the two seats. It really did a number on me! I kept my hands on the bars after that. The funniest thing on this ride - at the end, the voice says, "Please stand up before exiting your vehicle." WTH else would you do - roll out?? Saw Festival of the Lion King - it exceeded my expectations. Rode Kali River Rapids - DD and one of the twins were the lucky ones to get really wet - the rest of us just got splashed a little. We hopped over the MK after lunch time and stayed until 11:00. Saw Wishes - had to bite my lip to keep from crying, it's just that good. DH, who is not the Disney fanatic in the house, was awed at the choreography and synchronization between the fireworks and the soundtrack. It's really just that good!! We hit our first ride after Wishes at 9:00 and I counted that we rode 10 rides in 120 minutes - that is an average of one ride every 12 minutes, and that included walking time in between rides (and we walked slowly during some of that time because we were eating ice cream while in transit!). Rode Space Mountain 3 times, Buzz twice, BTMRR twice, Splash Mtn once, TTA once, and the Indy Speedway once. Headed home to the showers and a comfy bed. :flower:

Hey Fan! I've enjoyed your first two installments! Sounds like you have a fun family, but I'm a BIG chicken and could not hang with you!

Isn't Boma the best?! Hope you tried the pineapple cheesecake.

Please tell me what BTMRR is. I'm totally lost with the abbreviations. Thanx!

I don't know if that is the "official" abbreviation, but I used it for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. And, yes, we did try the pineapple cheesecake - it was yum! I don't think I tried anything there that I didn't like.
