I thought that I would throw in some final thoughts and a grand total of what we saved by using the DDE. Overall, as you have probably guessed by reading these threads, we had a blast. This was something that we had never done before since our previous trips included our two daughters (now grown). We'd eat at maybe one of these restaurants a trip. We really enjoyed all of the restaurants and didn't have a bad experience at any of them.
Jeff's overall favorite was between Artist Point and Jiko. He liked Artist Point since he and Sharon's sister Mary had lived in Seattle for a few years before moving to San Francisco and became hooked on food and wine from the "northwest." Artist Point also accommodated our "mix and match" menu that night. He liked Jiko a lot because it was so unique - something that he had not experienced before. He also felt that the California Grill ranked right up there due to the food, the "best view," and "great service." Yachtmans Steakhouse was the least unique for Jeff but he said that the J. Phelps wine that was recommended and ordered "was spectacular."
Sharon's favorites were Artist Point due to the ambience, service, uniqueness, and flavors of the food. Right behind AP was the California Grill and Citrico's. She particularly liked Citrico's since we had never tried it before. We were more adventurous that night choosing dishes that we normally don't try and she enjoyed it greatly. Her least favorite (and, again, this doesn't mean that she disliked it) was the Chefs de France. This was not because of the food or service but more because of where we were seated and who ultimately was seated next to us. As you probably know, some of these tables here are close together. Several minutes after we were seated, a particularly obnoxious young lady and friend were placed next to us. Her overly loud conversation was pretty annoying but luckily for us, her dinner lasted about 20 minutes and they left. The rest of our dinner was quite enjoyable - LOL!
As for my favorites, it would be a toss-up between the Yachtmans Steakhouse and the California Grill. I really enjoyed the Chateau'briand and the J. Phelps wine that I had at the YS. The service was attentive and we had a nice time chatting with our server on and off throughout dinner. At the California Grill, I probably had my best dinner of the week (the Mahi) and another great wine (Chalone Chardonney). When you consider the additional perks such as the sushi, flatbreads, and creme brulee (not to mention a pretty darned good seat for Wishes) - what's not to like? My least favorite (and again, I really liked this meal and would be happy to dine there again) would be the Chefs de France for the same reason as Sharon stated.
When I added up all of the discounts that we received due to the DDE, I was surprised and quite happy (as was Sharon and Jeff). In addition to the dinners that you read about, we also used the DDE at other restaurants and lounges for some breakfasts, light lunches, and few drinks here and there (did I tell you that we really liked the Victoria Falls Lounge -LOL!). Valet parking was also taken advantage of 4 out the 7 nights we were there. The grand total in savings was (insert drumroll here............) $323.63 - WOW! ..... and all for a $50 investment. We'll save even more when we go again in October! As my dad used to say, "that's nothing to shake a stick at."
Thanks to all who have read and posted about my ramblings!
