Cast of Characters

Me (41) Dis Board Junkie who would rather spend time planning trip than cooking dinner.

DH (41) Funder of trip and generous earner of frequent flier miles to get us there…appreciates all the Disney planning, not so thrilled with the no dinners thing.

DS (10) Thrill-Seeker…very excited to be going to the “World”. Been twice to Disneyland and loves any ride that goes fast, high or upside-down.

DS (8) Drama King…charming child who loves meeting the characters, thinks he’s a thrill-seeker (but is still a little frightened of upside-down) and may blow a gasket at any time. Been to Disneyland once.

DS (4) Binky Boy…Happy to be going anywhere the family goes, as long as he’s with Mom. Still needs a binky at night, but will assail brothers with full blows when provoked. Also been to DL once.

Trip Dates: 1/7/05 – 1/15/05

Sunday, January 9th

We are off to MGM today. After breakfast at the buffet, we hit MGM about 10am. For this very full day, we decide to rent a double stroller, knowing that Drama King will start to complain after awhile if he has to walk all day (I know he’s 8, but he fit in it just fine along with Binky Boy and it was a simple way to keep us going strong). Binky Boy does not want to ride in it yet, so we are pushing it empty. It’s the WDW Marathon today and runners are coming straight through the park. CM’s are stopping people to wait and cross at designated areas. As we are waiting to cross, we realize Binky Boy is missing! After scanning the crowd, we seeing him standing small and alone looking frightened and crying. DH runs to get him and we see how easy it is to become separated. He willingly climbs in the stroller now. We head to the first showing of the Indiana Jones Stunt Show. This was good, but I think most of it was lost on the two younger boys, especially Binky Boy. Right after that, we walk onto to Star Tours, which everyone loves. We head back towards the giant hat and our first character encounter. Now here’s where we run into problems. Thrill-Seeker is only interested in getting up to ToT and RNR. Drama King and Binky Boy (whom DK exerts a mighty influence over) spot Timon, Goofy and Max. We get in line for autographs while Thrill-Seeker sulks over the delay.

Finally done, we head up the street, pausing only to snap a picture of the boys with ToT in the background. When we get there, we see the standby line says 13 minutes, so we decide to head to RNR first…also only a 10 min. wait. DH gets in line with Thrill-Seeker and Drama King, while I take stroller to wait for them. Within 1 minute, DH runs with Drama King back to me and says he’s changed his mind, so into the stroller he climbs and we go off to find penny presses while we wait. Meet up with DH and Thrill-Seeker (who’s all smiles and has a new favorite ride) and head into Tower of Terror. Binky Boy almost immediately begins with the “I’m not sure I want to go on this” and after viewing the pre-show before the ride, he has bailed completely. We continue on to the chicken exit and arrange to do the baby-swap. I ride the second time with Thrill-Seeker who talks non-stop, telling me what to expect next. Overall, I wasn’t that impressed. I guess I expected more of a show or more to see before the big drops.

After ToT, I see the entrance to the Beauty and the Beast Show, but no one wants to see it (welcome to my life with all boys). I say OK, but they all have to see the Voyage of the Little Mermaid later. Since we are hungry, we stop for a Philly Steak sandwich for DH (thumbs up) and stuffed pretzels for the rest of us at Dockside Diner (thumbs down). We are now on our way to the Backlot Tour which has about a 15 minute wait during which all three boys just disintegrate and there’s crying and yelling (Drama King in fine form here). The ride is good however and when we’re done, we chill out in the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground, a very calming place. Next we’re on our way to Little Mermaid…Mom’s personal favorite! The parade is about to begin when we get out, so we head up the street to find a place to squat for a while and enjoy the show. Pluto pays a personal visit (Drama King’s favorite) so everyone is happy. We have just enough time left to do the Great Movie Ride, which DH and I very much enjoyed. At 5pm, we had a PS for the Fantasmic dinner package at Hollywood & Vine. I chose this based on info from the boards. It was the least expensive restaurant and it offered a kid’s buffet, which I thought would appeal to everyone, especially Mr. Picky Eater, Thrill-Seeker. Funnily enough, when he came back to the table after visiting the buffet, he had only shrimp, mussels and a few roasted potatoes on his plate. He skipped the kid’s line altogether…go figure! We all enjoyed the meal and DH was particularly excited when he saw the map outlining the special entrance we would get for Fantasmic.

We found seats with no problem and the kids got out their $2.00 glow sticks as I watched the vendors ply their $12 wares on the unsuspecting audience…Thanks DIS Boards! The show was great and even though I had packed gloves and fleece for everyone, it was all left behind in the hotel room and the evening was balmy as could be. I should mention here that so far, weather has been 80 degrees and sunny every day…WOO HOO!!! We were pretty much first out of the Fantasmic theater and using our special entranceway, we were dumped back out right at the MGM exit. We stopped long enough to buy a pin for Drama King’s lanyard and another charm for my bracelet. Back to the hotel and a good sleep after our marathon day!

Great time,eh? Sounds like the info you got from the DIS boards paid off? Don't cha just LOVE comin' here?? ;) Where's your pics? I just love to see everyone smiling and "Disney Content"! :wave2:

We've done the Fantasmic Dinner Package at different restaurants but with kids Hollywood and Vine was the best. No waiting for orders to be taken just get to the buffet!
Love your reports, waiting for the next installment.

we took a vegetarian .....old person.....two dieters and some fussy kids and everyoen found something there they loved......I personally and my hubby ate it all......thanks so much for your day .....it sounds fantastic and I loved it......WHERE DID YOU GET THE PHILLY sub .......they discontinued it at COSMIC rays in MK.......thanks again

The philly sub was from a small kiosk kind of thing on one side of the water (pond, lake, whatever). It was opposite from where Dockside Diner is on the other side. If I remember, it was sort of near the dinosaur in the water?

Mom23Boys- I have to ask....is Binky Boy on the early end or late end of being 4? I'm asking because we're thinking of taking our son next May and he'll be 4 years and 4 months and are afraid he might be too young. I'm asking because it sounds like Binky Boy is having a wonderful time!
BTW, LOVE the trip report so far!

Binky Boy will turn 5 in April. He sounds young because of his still strong attachments to both Binky and me, but being the youngest of 3 boys, he has great motivation to go, see, do what the older ones are doing. I should mention that he's also pretty tall for his age, so could go on almost everything, except RocknRoller Coaster. He did just fine, but having the stroller for him was key.

Thank goodness for the Honey I shrunk the kids playground! It's a great place to the kids to run around and play. Makes dinner much more enjoyable since they've tired themselves out!

My kids rode in strollers when they were 8 or 9 and it was a godsend. No fighting (couldn't touch each other) and they just weren't exhausted from all the walking, etc. they would have had to do otherwise.

I am so enjoying your trip reports. I would be so bummed if I lost my Brighton glasses, they are a unique brand, hard to replaced - sorry for you. I chuckled about the Beauty and the Beast show (living with all boys...). My poor DH has to contend with all girls, so it is the opposite. I am anxious to read the next day :sunny:
