Me, DH, (47) and DS (23)
We got off the May 5th Western cruise on the 12th and headed to WDW.
We arrived at the WL at 9:30am and they said the room wouldn't be ready til 3pm. So we shopped, explored, sat around had lunch at Roaring Fork (burgers very good) got our refillable mugs and birthday, anniversary, and first visit buttons.
We took the boat to the MK but didn't go in. Just rode the monorails around to see the area. By the time we were done with that around 2pm our room was ready. Inner Courtyard room 4109 overlooking the rocking chairs on the patio with a view of the pool, lake, and water pageant. Nice room!
Had Whispering Canyon for dinner at 7pm. They came and sang Happy Birthday to my DH very loud and offkey and then had him blow out the candle, then grabbed the cake back from him and they all starting pigging out on it. (they brought him another one to enjoy). Very good dinner.
Sunday took the bus to Animal Kingdom. We loved this park. It was a little overcast, but kept it cooler. It was still hot and humid though. We were there for the opening. There was this little tree on wheels that was walking around talking to people and he came over to us and started giving me a hard time about not sharing my danish with DH! Got him on video somewhere.
Did the safari first (loved it! lots of animals out) then the rapids. DH got soaked on that.Rode expedition everest. DS was too chicken. That was a great ride! Had hot italian sandwiches from the Pizzafari place. Yummy! And later for a snack had tropical smoothies. Excellent! Those really hit the spot.
Took the bus over to AKL at 4pm for dinner at Boma. Very good food here too and so different. The brought a carnation to the tables for the mothers for Mothers Day and chocolate dipped strawberries. Our server also brought a plate with Happy Anniversary on it in chocolate with little cookies around it. After dinner we went to the lookout area's and saw the giraffes.
Took the bus from there to DTD. WDW's is so much bigger than ours. I really liked it. A whole different group of people too. Mostly friendly and tourists. Our's is mostly locals hanging out. After that we took the bus back to WL, filled our cups and went to the beach to watch the water pageant. Those songs are still stuck in our heads!
Monday we took the bus to Epcot. Loved it too! Had breakfast at Roaring Forks first. I brought the croissants up to the room to eat. They were delicious! We did Test Track first and loved it. The weather was a little cooler today, but not much. Davy Jones was performing for the Flower and Garden Show and we watched a bit of that. We went to each country and tried to eat something. We had fish and chips and beer, some kind of swedish tortilla with cinnamon, some egg rolls and dumplings, a teriyaki bowl and sushi, a pretzel and then on to Biergarten for our dinner ressie. The show was interesting, DS and DH loved this dinner the best. The food was all great! We did lots in this park and covered most of it.
Magic Kingdom next! Got breakfast crossants again from RF. Took the boat to MK at 9am. Did the train first to get a feel of how big an area we had to cover. There is more to see on our train here. Loved the colors and buildings in this park, but have to say I like DL better. Our Haunted Mansion looks more like one and the ride is a little longer. Our Pirates is better and the music plays louder and more boisterous in ours. I like the outside of our Small World, but the inside of the one at WDW better. Loved WDW Thunder Mountain. Space Mountain was closed, but rode the TA tram through it and saw it with the lights on. WDW's Indy cars are so bright and colorful and themed well, but our's is a longer drive. Tiki room was interesting and I liked it, but ours is the original and we love to sing along with it here and couldn't do that at WDW. The jungle cruise was pretty much the same except ours has piranhas they added in the last few years. The Stitch ride was interesting too. We don't have that! It was nice to see Country Bears again since we don't have it here anymore.
We were going to have lunch at Liberty Tavern, but they were closed, so went to Columbia House and had sandwiches. Then stopped for ice cream .Went back to the WL around 6pm and swam, then had a sandwich from RF. We were too tired to go back to the park for fireworks. Actually we weren't at any of the parks after 6pm so I told DH we have to go back again so we can see them all at night and do the night shows!
Next we decided to take the bus to MGM. Went to RF first and got the breakfast platter for something different and took it outside to the pool area to eat. Lots of friendly ducks and birds around. Got so many pictures of ducks, birds, and rabbits this trip. They were all over the lodge grounds.
At MGM I went straight to TOT. Me and DH rode. DS too chicken! It was different than ours, but still fun. Ours has an element of surprise that just takes you off guard. WDW's you know when it's going to drop.
From there over to RocknRoller Coaster. DS chicken and DH won't do upside down, so I went in the single rider line. Worked out great! Missed that 40 minute wait. I loved this ride but it was too short. Loved the theming of it. I have to say that Calif Screamin at CA here is still my favorite! It's a much longer ride and I scream all through it.
Did a lot of the things in the park. We originally weren't going to go here, but stay at the WL and enjoy the pool, then decided to check out MGM. We are so glad we did! We went to the Brown Derby for lunch. Oh man....what a great meal! and desserts to kill for! Our waitress gave us so much information about the restaurant. She had been there 18 years. She also brought an old phone to the table and dialed it so Mickey and Minnie sang Happy Anniv. to me and then dialed it again so DH could hear Goofy sing Happy Bday to him! Then she brought a little certificate saying we celebrated our 25th at the Brown Derby. I am so glad we didn't miss this place.
After that the parade was starting and this is really the only place I got all the characters pictures. We didn't get many at the other parks or on the cruise, so we are so glad we got to see this parade! It was real hot and humid standing there, so we left after that and went back to WL to swim and have a drink at the pool bar. Bought another carry on since I bought too many scrap book things to get home in ours, and then got burgers from RF and took down to the beach area to eat. Then back to RF for ice cream and bed. (well... had to pack first).
The morning we left we went to Whispering Canyon for breakfast skillets. Very yummy and filling. Our waitress was real mellow, but the one over a few tables was loud and obnoxious and hilarious! Used the resort airline check in for American and then back to our room to get our last bit of stuff. This is when they started the Geyser up and we got to see it from our balcony before we left!
Sunray trans. picked us up at 10:45 and we had a 1:45 flight, that was delayed til 3pm. We ate Burger King at the airport. The flight home was fine and we actually flew right over our neighborhood! Should have brought some parachutes! The traffic coming home was bumper to bumper. We used Super Shuttle. Home at 7:30.
We really loved our trip to WDW and hope to be able to afford to go back some day!
