Last year we went to WDW for the first time & stayed at the Wilderness Lodge. We came over to Fort Wilderness one night for dinner - the backyard bbq - and liked the look/feel of Fort Wilderness. So this year we rented a cabin there.

We had a great time. The cabins were a much better fit/feel for us. However, after seeing all the personal golf carts - now my DH wants one of his own! LOL He said he was going to get a used one and fix it up for our next trip to WDW. While it is nice to see him excited about a "next" trip - our next two years are booked with DCL. But I just smiled at his excitement.

This year we also ventured over to the HDDR. Loved it. My twin DDs were picked to ring the dinner bell, which they thought was pretty neat. I wasn't sure they would get the humor, and happily - I was wrong. They laughed through the meal. It was a lot of fun.

I wanted to say thank you to everyone who shares information here. I had reserved a cart with Disney - but after reading information here cancelled and rented with Kenny. Saved me about $200. And the pick up/delivery went off without a hitch.

Also, with the tips about the campfire, we arrived to it on time - packed with stuff to roast hot dogs and smores. One person next to us said "you have obviously done this before" as we were nicely prepared. We had not, but there were enough tips here we really were prepared. My children enjoyed this a lot too.

On the way home we passed one RV with a fort wilderness cover over their spare tire. My Dh was tickled like a kid to see that. Which of course tickled me.

It was a great week, great weather, and a wonderful place to vacation. Next trip we will plan on more down days to enjoy the fort activities.

Thank you again.

That's wonderful! And I love that your husband is so into it and already plans to go back. :woohoo:

I agree about the tips here. I've read and read - lurked and read some more. There is just a wealth of information available just by reading!

It's been five years since we've been to Disney and seven since we've been to the fort - with two cruises thrown in between then and now. While I love to cruise, I'm looking forward to returning to the Fort and camping!

Thanks for sharing!
